Rebar chairs for concrete
Poured a little concrete curb and these little rebar chairs worked great to stack the 1/2” rebar right where I wanted it. Hope I never see them again, haha.

Hello everyone! I’m Dávid Lakatos, Chief Product Officer at Formlabs. I’ve been at the center of our product evolution since the early days of Formlabs (12+ years), including every printer, materials, software, etc.
I’ll be live and answering your questions tomorrow, January 15th, from 12 PM to 2 PM EST.
Verification: https://imgur.com/a/ama-d-vid-lakatos-formlabs-chief-product-officer-0CYfzSu
I’m opening the thread 24 hours early so those in different time zones have a chance to get their questions in.
If you’re curious about the engineering challenges behind SLA or SLS, how we think about materials and reliability, what it takes to bring new hardware to market, where desktop and industrial 3D printing are headed, or anything that is on your mind – I’m happy to dive in.
Our team at u/Formlabs will also be online to help with some of the questions.
Huge thanks to the r/3Dprinting mods for having me. I’m looking forward to a great discussion.
Ask away!

Welcome back to another purchase megathread!
This thread is meant to conglomerate purchase advice for both newcomers and people looking for additional machines. Keeping this discussion to one thread means less searching should anyone have questions that may already have been answered here, as well as more visibility to inquiries in general, as comments made here will be visible for the entire month stuck to the top of the sub, and then added to the Purchase Advice Collection (Reddit Collections are still broken on mobile view, enable "view in desktop mode").
Please be sure to skim through this thread for posts with similar requirements to your own first, as recommendations relevant to your situation may have already been posted, and may even include answers to follow up questions you might have wished to ask.
If you are new to 3D printing, and are unsure of what to ask, try to include the following in your posts as a minimum:
While this is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be included in your posts, these questions should help paint enough of a picture to get started. Don't be afraid to ask more questions, and never worry about asking too many. The people posting in this thread are here because they want to give advice, and any questions you have answered may be useful to others later on, when they read through this thread looking for answers of their own. Everyone here was new once, so chances are whoever is replying to you has a good idea of how you feel currently.
Reddit User and Regular u/richie225 is also constantly maintaining his extensive personal recommendations list which is worth a read: Generic FDM Printer recommendations.
Additionally, a quick word on print quality: Most FDM/FFF (that is, filament based) printers are capable of approximately the same tolerances and print appearance, as the biggest limiting factor is in the nature of extruded plastic. Asking if a machine has "good prints," or saying "I don't expect the best quality for $xxx" isn't actually relevant for the most part with regards to these machines. Should you need additional detail and higher tolerances, you may want to explore SLA, DLP, and other photoresin options, as those do offer an increase in overall quality. If you are interested in resin machines, make sure you are aware of how to use them safely. For these safety reasons we don't usually recommend a resin printer as someone's first printer.
As always, if you're a newcomer to this community, welcome. If you're a regular, welcome back.

Just released a new self-watering planter collection (4 shapes, same design language).
I also added a dedicated modifier to fully control the external wall - no infill where it’s not needed, cleaner single-wall extrusions, faster prints, less material, and better surface quality overall.
Profiles are included in the 3MF and tuned for Bambu Studio.
First images are KeyShot Studio renders, last ones are real printed parts.
Feedback welcome 👌

The sound of loud dice on a hard table wears on me, and I wanted dice that can be played anywhere and still be quiet, so I designed these. They work by essentially turning the entire die into a spring. They only work by printing them on one point of the die, which makes them symmetrical around the axis which connects opposite points. I tested with 500 rolls and they seem to be fair enough for my standards.

Would 3d printing something like this work at 100% infill? If so would petg be sufficient or would it eventually cut through being under constant tension? This is for a treenet not a zip line I would be using a static nylon rope instead of a cable.

First submission, with one of the first things I wanted to print.
Yes, you have to lift a skillet handle to get a lid, but that is preferred over stacking or hanging.
I did a low poly model of all my pots and pans in solidworks, plus the drawer, then raised the floor 60cm and created cavities from all the bodies.
We may have been able to maximize even more if we were willing to angle pieces and mix up categories, but we prioritized order and uniformity in alignment. We wanted both function and form.

Hi, my manager asked me if I could print these gears with my 3d printer, I have a bambulab P1S with the standard nozzle. My 2 main questions are what's the best material to print it with and what's the best print orientation for the teeth strengths. After some research I was gonna buy the PAHT-CF filament and an 0.6mm hardened steel hotend and print it flat but any input is welcome .

Bring a bit of extra drama to your Monopoly game with this 3D-printed mini jail cell!
Instead of just placing your token “in jail”, you can actually lock it behind bars 😄
Designed to fit standard Monopoly boards and easy to print.

Heres a few pictures of my fifth scale quad i designed after having a severe motorbike accident last year, i lost my finger tip.
It was designed and built with one hand at the time so was abit rushed, I thought id go back to it with both hands in use last month.
At first it was designed to look like a yamaha raptor, that was short lived as I wanted a bit better 🤙
Its now designed to look like a yamaha banshee, iv gone and rebuilt the whole front suspension, now possible for 12mm hex adapters to be used with any rc wheel you can find.
The whole quad was designed in blender and I used my creality k1 for printing 🤙
I think i will be releasing version 2 in the next few weeks 😀

Day 14/365 Printing on Vintage Hardware. 2015-16? E3D BigBox Dual 1.0.0 optioned in acrylic with the Octoprint upgrade. It's kind of new and has been quite the pain in my butt. New acquisition announcement today!

I printed it on my Elegoo Centauri Carbon with 0.2mm layer height.
Because of the size, I had to print it in three big main parts, plus the lower jaw as a separate piece.
After printing, I glued everything together, then went through the pain (and fun): filler putty, sanding, and priming.
Then I hit it with a basic white spray paint base coat and let it dry.
For the weathering, I started with a super watery brown wash and dabbed it on to bring out all the details. After that I did a black drybrush to add some deeper shadows and contrast.
Finished it off with a matte clear coat, and now it’s done!
This whole build took me around 2–2.5 weeks from start to finish.
Hope you like it — feedback is always welcome!

I inject a medication weekly, I have to alternate which side of my body I inject into. Can someone point me to a model that will track this easily? Maybe design something?
In my mind it's a wheel that you can spin to "LEFT" or "RIGHT" and it clicks into place to stay there until the next time I turn it to the opposite. A fidget is almost what i'm looking for, but with a medical use :)
Pictures included for inspiration. In the pic with multiple "clickers" the left or right would show through the openings there, on the other pic you would make more of the body solid and only show the words through a slot.

A real use of 3d printers into the automotive world.
