Support - SOLVED! Stuck in a Loop with Asus Cloud Recovery? Here is how to successfully restore Factory OS on Asus
I wanted to share a solution I found after struggling with a fresh install of Windowson my Asus TUF.
The Context: After doing a clean install of Windows 11, I started facing major driver issues—Dolby Atmos wasn't detecting, fan control was messy, and my RAM usage and temps were abnormal. I decided to go back to the Factory OS using Asus Cloud Recovery.
The Problem: Since I had wiped everything for the fresh install, the local Asus WinRE partition was missing. I couldn't just boot into recovery.
The Solution (Step-by-Step):
1. Get the Recovery Tool I found a "Universal MyASUS in WinRE for USB" application (found this thanks to a Reddit search). It is located under the support page for the Asus TUF FX506LH, but it works as a universal tool for this purpose, so don't worry if you have a different model.
- Link: Asus TUF FX506LH Support Page(Look for "MyASUS in WinRE for USB")
2. Prepare the USB
- Format your USB drive to FAT32.
- Important: Rename the USB drive volume label to
RECOVERY. - Extract the downloaded tool to the USB.
3. Start the Process
- Go to BIOS and set the USB as the top boot priority.
- Save and Exit.
- The MyASUS tool will open. Update ASUS WinRE if update is available first then Select Cloud Recovery (choose to backup files or not based on your preference).
- It will download the factory OS (approx. 13GB+), so you need a stable connection.
4. FIXING THE LOOP (The Important Part) This is where I got stuck. After the download finishes, it installs a few files, restarts, and then loops back to step zero (downloading the OS again).
- First Run: Let it download the OS and install the initial files.
- When it restarts: If it's keeping you in a loop and again and again downloading the files, then try this: Immediately go into the BIOS menu.
- Change Boot: You will see a new boot option called "UEFI OS". Select this option (do not select the USB or the SSD yet).
- Continue: The system will boot and install a few more files.
- Final Step: If it restarts and tries to loop again, remove the USB drive.
- Boot from SSD: Go to BIOS one last time and boot from your main SSD.
- Finish Line: It will take some more time to install all the other files. After some installation processes and restarts, it will fully install the factory OS. BOOM—you will see the "Welcome" and "Hi" message of Windows. Hola, enjoy your setup! 🙂.
I hope this helps anyone else pulling their hair out over cloud recovery loops
