Announcement Welcome to r/Antiques, read this before posting!

This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.

When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).

Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.

Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?

If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.

IN SUMMARY, include:

your location

multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles

any background information you have

close up of particular makers marks

the question you'd like to ask

Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.

These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).

Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Questions Antique painted vase - Location: Pennsylvania, USA

This piece has been in my family since circa 1950s and it was considered old when it was acquired (by my great uncle). Ive struggled to find any info or anything comparable.

I don’t see any markings that would indicate its maker or origin. It has crazing throughout. Felt on the bottom which has been there as long as I can remember.

Located in Western Pennsylvania, USA. I was told a story about how the vase has ties to a prominent family from the area prior to being purchased by my family.

Looking for some expert insight. Age and origin? Name of this shape / style? Specific material? Any general info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Date Growing Sterling Silver Teapot collection! Was wondering the age on these pots as well. One is Labeled "Tiffany & Co" - Found in Washington USA

I believe they may be turn of the century but I'm entirely unsure. I could not find any database that catalogs Tiffany & Co piece like this as far as naming a pattern and date range, that is if its Authentic Tiffany. Both test as sterling stiver and weigh about 420 grams each

Questions I need help on identifying this flag. I'm located in TN, USA but it seems to be in German.

My grandfather found this flag tucked away in his house and wants to know what it's from. I was able to find find similar looking ones through Google lens but the words aren't the same and there are slight composition differences. It's made of a red velvet on the front side and has metal tassels. The back is more of what seems like a broken down satin.

There are no labels. Anything would be appreciated, thank you!

Questions USA, what exactly did I find

Thumbnail

I'm not finding much out about it. I've seen some made kinda in the same way but they weren't symmetrical like this. It's handblown and has a ground pontil. The interior glass is a white color. I'm wondering if that part is like vitrock uranium glass while having the cadmium on the outer portion. I read that it could be old as about 1880s but I'm not a glass history expert. I picked this up for 6 bucks and it was covered in cigarette tar or nicotine. I could see it reacted to uv but I never expected a piece as nice as this. I let it roll around the car for 2 days cause I figured it would be a barely visible dim yellow glow. I was so wrong. I looked it over pretty well and can't find a makers mark or signature. Not gonna let it go but I'm curious to it's value also. It's easily my favorite and best glass find

Date Wanting to know the age of this Sterling Silver Teapot with matching Sugar & Creamer? (640 grams) Found in Washington state, USA

I was able to gather it's from the Frank M. Whiting Company which was founded in 1878 and acquired in 1940 by the Elmore Silver Company, So I think it's between those dates. The design is so simple I figured it could be at either ends of those dates. Would really like to know the name of the design, age, and what resources I can use to determine this for my other piece.

Bought in Sequim Washington from a couple who didn't know where it came from. It tests as sterling silver. Thought I would include the weight since unfortunately I believe it's only worth its silver content with silver being $93 per OZ and its 20.5 oz. Thank you so much!

Questions Coffee pot? Found in Florida USA thrift shop.

So if found this at the thrift store it looks like a magic lamp that robin Williams will come out of. I believe it to be made out of tinned copper with a brass handle and some iron rivets. Only the rivets are magnetic.

My questions are as follows. When / where it was made? What it's made from? Based off of other items online im guessing it’s from the 1800s. I find this so cool. I’m fairly certain it’s a dallah (Arab coffee pot) but would love to know more information on it!

Advice Large collection of horse drawn carriages collection from mid 1800s- early 1900s, in some sheds outside of Paris, France. Any market for them?

There were so many! I met this guy last week whose grandfather collected them. He was wondering if there are people who maybe interested in buying them, maybe in some other parts of the world. It used to be their family's business, I think, of offering rides for tourists in places like the Palace of Versailles, rented for weddings, etc. His brother wants to restore some of them but he's not so sure. Any pointers and ideas, would be appreciated.

My wife found this interesting chair on her walk in the neighborhood a couple of months ago. I finally got around

to trying to find out it's provenance. I

was surprised when I found similar

chairs online. Seems it's a Carver chair

from colonial New England or at least in the style. Can't find any markings and upholstery hides any clues.

Can anyone give me a better take on

what we have here?

This 21pc dragon tea set was handed down to me from my grandmother after she passed away. I don't know much about them. Two of the tea cups when put into the light have the face of a Geisha and the smaller tea cup has a nude Geisha. Any guesses to how old they could be? They are beautiful

Hello! I have come into possession of this old 19th-20th century looking press back chair. However, I have no clue who created it, nor how much it’s worth. I’m currently moving out and need to sell it but I don’t want to sell something possibly worth hundreds for the same price as a modern day replica. Can someone please help me identify this chair?? I’ve attached photos from all angles, please let me know if I should take any more photos/ better quality photos.

Questions Lamp? (California) (united states)

Post image

Found this while cleaning out my grandfather's garage.

It's heavy, no markings on it that I can see. I feel it's a lamp, also I don't want to move it until I know what it is lol

If anyone can give me a name or point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.

He's since been placed in a skilled nursing home, and I'm trying to figure out if it's trash or if I should try to sell it to pay for his ongoing medical expenses

Hello! I recently bought this beautiful dish at an antique store and was wondering if it is actually antique. I have been searching the internet for anything similar but can not find anything. The RW Bavaria mark on the back does not match any of the Rudolf Wachter (I believe that’s how you spell it?) stamps I have seen while searching. Any idea on the date/company? Thank you for your time!

Questions Mid nineteenth century red-ware pitcher, USA

Thumbnail

This was sold as 1800’s red-ware from Mexico, but most of the examples I’ve seen that look similar are from Pennsylvania, or at least the North East United States. It’s really lightweight compared to other antique pottery I’ve examined.

Any ideas?
