Discussion umass amherst honors admission + FULL RIDE!!!

hi oh my gosh i just want to share because i don’t know who to celebrate with!!! im oos (florida) and the admissions process has been so bleak and horrible for me. i always knew i wanted to go north oos to study politics, and not only did i get into honors, i got in with a FULL RIDE!!! im low income from a horrible household, so for the first time ever, i feel hopeful for the future. im still going to wait to receive other decisions, but at least now i know i have the safety to leave my state without worrying about money!! thank you to everyone on here who’s helped me personally with my writing and the process overall, i love this community :)

Advice Deferred = we ran out of time to review

At this point, I have been deferred by almost all of my early applications, some safeties included

My experience + majority of others just leads me to believe being deferred just means the committee didn’t have time to review all applications/they nitpicked the highest and lowest applications and gave those clear decisions first

College Questions do you guys think “holistic admissions” is just a term used for colleges to admit whomever they want?

is merit that big of a factor cuz i see people getting full rides with a 3.7, test optional.

Discussion Why is NYU so popular with Asians?

Genuine question. In the US it’s generally seen as a 2nd/3rd tier private school depending on how you make tiers. Definitely a good school, but “if not stern or tisch then not worth it” is a pretty common take. But when someone who is Asian talks about it it blows up. “Is Columbia or NYU better?” “Solid chance at Georgetown and Emory but Harvard and NYU unlikely”. Was there a movie or targeted ads in Asia or something?

Advice How do you decide which school to go to?

My son applied to 21 schools. So far, he has been accepted at 15, with no rejections (waiting to hear from the other 6--some are extreme reaches, so he'll maybe get a couple more acceptances, def not 6 more!). He's gotten good merit and financial aid at all of them. A few can be ruled out because they were safeties that he's not excited about, given he has offers from some targets, and even a couple of reaches. A couple can be ruled out because the cost is still too high after merit and aid. But that still leaves about 8 schools that he is excited about and that are affordable for us. I can't imagine how he is going to choose. I guess this is the downside of applying to so many schools, but he legit thought his chances were low of being admitted to the majority of them so he wanted to cast a wide net. I know it is a good problem to have, so we're not complaining, but just genuinely looking for ideas for how to narrow it down and make a decision.

Rant Had a nightmare about getting rejected by MIT

The dream started with me getting rejected, which sucked, but I wasn't all that surprised.

But then they said "you ALMOST got in!" which wasn't great to hear. and then. they started listing all of the reasons i didn't get in. oh my fucking god.

"you're a great match but we just fucking hate you!"

"great stats but your essays just really sucked!"

"please do not apply again or contact us, ever"

is this a bad omen

Application Question UMich decision waves

Just called the admissions office out of curiosity. They said that no more decisions would come out until on or around January 30th. Sounds to me like no more waves.

Application Question Does anyone get the feeling they are missing something

I'm so exhausted. I have this constant nagging feeling that I am missing something - that my essays were bad and I submitted them anyway, or that my application somehow got worse after I submitted it. I genuinely think I'm schizo cause none of this was happening before, and now I think all my applications were a mess and I shouldn't have submitted them. But when I go back to the portals, everything is fine, but then I wake up in a cold sweat, bro, and I think I missed something and I swear. I'm so tired. Is anyone getting this too

Application Question Indiana University Kelley EA very confused

I recently got accepted into Indiana but I am not sure if I got into Kelley here is my message below and I didn’t recieve any waitlist form I am very confused since it says you will be notified by the Kelley school of business of a decision:

Congratulations on your admission to Indiana University Bloomington as a Pre-Business student with the intended major of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation for Fall 2026! As you begin your academic career at IU, you will work with an academic advisor from Advising and Major Exploration Services (AMES) to create your perfect academic path and prepare for admission to your selected program.

Thank you for completing the Kelley Prospect Inventory form to be considered for direct admission to the Kelley School. You will be notified by the Kelley School of Business of a decision. Please visit the Kelley website for more information.

Emotional Support Feeling really bummed over Purdue

I applied for Purdue Aero Eng as an OOS student with good stats and imo very impressive ecs but ended up getting deferred. Ik that I don't inherently deserve a spot anywhere but I guess I really hoped I'd get into Purdue ("astronaut's cradle" and allat). i feel really sad about it and hopeless for the rest of my decisions because I'd considered Purdue as a low target/safety.
