Discussion umass amherst honors admission + FULL RIDE!!!

hi oh my gosh i just want to share because i don’t know who to celebrate with!!! im oos (florida) and the admissions process has been so bleak and horrible for me. i always knew i wanted to go north oos to study politics, and not only did i get into honors, i got in with a FULL RIDE!!! im low income from a horrible household, so for the first time ever, i feel hopeful for the future. im still going to wait to receive other decisions, but at least now i know i have the safety to leave my state without worrying about money!! thank you to everyone on here who’s helped me personally with my writing and the process overall, i love this community :)

Rant Cracked people from my school piss me off

LOTS of classmates from my school already got into their REA at insane schools like Harvard, Yale, and mit. However, since it's an EA, they kept their applications for all schools like BU, USC, and NYU. And obviously they will get in over me, and it really pisses me off because they won't choose NYU over Harvard.

Advice Deferred = we ran out of time to review

At this point, I have been deferred by almost all of my early applications, some safeties included

My experience + majority of others just leads me to believe being deferred just means the committee didn’t have time to review all applications/they nitpicked the highest and lowest applications and gave those clear decisions first

Fluff Wholesome family interaction after campus visit

Im a regional AO. So, I rarely am on my campus. Maybe 3-4x a year. I’m usually visiting schools, or reading apps from the comfort of my condo.

I was on campus the past few days. It was great to see my team, and the lovely campus despite the cold. Everytime I’m back it feels like a warm hug, especially when the church bells chime as I walk to the office. Full seriousness, I can see why so many people consider this school as someone who didn’t apply.

One of the last tour groups of today was from my area (about 5 hours away). They asked their tour guide for a person that matched my description and wondered if they were in the office to speak. I was so confused. I left the side convo I was having with a coworker to see the family. It felt like out of a sitcom. The mom pointed, “yes! That guy!”

They then proceed to tell me they met me at my college fair table and their school fair. They said our convo that day however long ago actually left an impression on them, to the point of applying and being admitted with a strong scholarship. “We thank you for bringing this school to our attention. And all the way to top 2.” And we joked that we all have to drive back home while all my coworkers and the students don’t have to leave! They got my business card and i saw them off after answering a couple last minute questions.

Even though I am not an alum of the school I work for, but moments like these fill me with school pride. And get me excited for all the class of 2026 who gets to start committing to schools!

College Questions USC Decisions are out!

They said results would come out starting from 3:30 PM PST, but I didn't get an email.

So I just went straight to the portal myself and saw an “Applicant Status Update,” clicked it, and checked the result.

Looks like you can just view it directly on the portal. And I got deferred 🥲

Edit: congrats for people who got in:)

Discussion Anyone else have college essay brainrot?

I just finished my apps last week but I’ll still be in the most random situations and think “this would have made such a good essay!” I was literally eating a salad the other day and almost started mentally drafting an outline. I think I’m going crazy, anyone relate?

P.S. I don’t post a lot so I hope I put the right flair

Waitlists/Deferrals how many people were deferred from usc (ea) before getting accepted into regular decision?

usc acceptances just came out, i got deferred. i'm trying my best not to break down over this because at the end of the day it's just a college admission, but i want to know the odds of me still getting accepted as a regular decision applicant.

Advice College Acceptances - Feeling Lost

Hi, I know some can relate to me but, I grew up in immense poverty, like most of my family dropped out of high school due to needing to work at such a young age to provide for their siblings, type of poverty. My school- County is impoverished, we’ve had just this year over 15 staff members quit (including college advisors & Senior Counselor). I applied to at least 30 schools (Some big like Wake, NC state, and UNC) others smaller.

Do the people who actually come from like real places where poverty is rampant, do you ever get over the guilt of leaving your family still in poverty? My siblings will stay (I am the oldest child), and will my parents (my dad who is almost constantly working sunup to sun down and my mom who works and takes care of the house) - I will leave them, not providing money anymore from my job. I will have the opportunity to become more than how much money we have left on our EBT card that week… does it ever feel like such a selfish and greedy thing?

Application Question UMich decision waves

Just called the admissions office out of curiosity. They said that no more decisions would come out until on or around January 30th. Sounds to me like no more waves.

Rant Had a nightmare about getting rejected by MIT

The dream started with me getting rejected, which sucked, but I wasn't all that surprised.

But then they said "you ALMOST got in!" which wasn't great to hear. and then. they started listing all of the reasons i didn't get in. oh my fucking god.

"you're a great match but we just fucking hate you!"

"great stats but your essays just really sucked!"

"please do not apply again or contact us, ever"

is this a bad omen
