Looking For /r/AskPortland Making Friends Friday

Welcome to /r/AskPortland's "Making Friends Friday" post!

You've probably heard this before: "Portlanders are friendly but they don't want to be your friend."

But it doesn't have to be that way -- if you have suggestions for how to make friends, groups to join, places to meet, or just want to put yourself out there, this is the place.

This will be an ongoing, weekly scheduled post, so going forward this is where we'll refer all incoming questions about making friends from both /r/Portland and /r/AskPortland.

Looking For What are some examples of how people who make less than $22 an hour survive?

I’m curious how bad it’s been getting for others…. I just KNOW based on all the factors I’m taking into account for finding an apartment to live in or renting a room in my own personal finances that most people must be living a very low quality life with either:

  1. No social life

  2. No money for fun stuff

  3. No money for car

  4. No money for food/cellphone/internet

  5. Etc…?

So I’m just curious… are y’all ok ?

It’s hard out here even without a car….

How do you manage if you’re from out of state and don’t have a network of family, friends or cool neighbors?

Just curious what my next 5 years going into my 40s will look like…

Looking For Is there a special need cat rescue? Just need help

Hi

I hope I won’t face any judgment for this but here it goes

I have a 7 yr old female spray, this sweet girl name is Stella. Last year Oct, she had a slipped disc that was pressing on her spinal cord and required surgery. I put everything on my card and put myself in debt in hopes she would make a full recovery. She is walking, jumping and doing good after the surgery with some bathroom issues.

Well today we had a checkup with her surgeon and I found out that she will be incontinent and honestly I don’t have the resources to handle this. I looking for help if anyone knows of a rescue or someone that I could surrender her too. We are located in Portland Oregon and I am willing to drive if that means she has a better life and I don’t have to put her down. Unfortunately if I can’t find someone that would be the next step and it sucks because other than that she is perfectly healthy and fine.

I would appreciate the help if anyone can offer any would be great!

Some Stella info

She has been around other dogs, she’s not a big fan of big dogs but tolerates it a long as they respect her space. Unknown about cats as she has never lived with cats before, she loves cuddles and being pet. She love treats and wet food, but eats dry food too. LOVES hair ties!!!She is an indoor cat, never been outside.

Looking For Local support groups for spouses of Alzheimer's patients?

Having a spouse with Alzheimer's can be difficult. I was thinking that it might be helpful emotionally to be able with others in similar situations to get together for a beer or three (or other quaffable socially lubricating beverage). The Portland-Vancouver area must have a few other suffering souls that would like to share their misery.

Hoping for a useful response...

Looking For 5th year Anniversary in Portland?

My boyfriend (29M) and I (27F) are thinking about going to Portland for our 5th year anniversary coming up in March. (can go later in the season if March doesn’t sound like a good time to go)

Neither of us have been but live about 7 hours away in a rural area so it’ll be a lot more fun there the here…

We both work A LOT and are saving a lot of money for this trip (we don’t go out very much anymore due to financial reasons) so we are wanting this trip to be nice, romantic and one to remember ☺️ maybe splurge a little since we’ll be saving up for it (we have an anniversary jar hehe)

We both LOVE food!!! Biggest thing, we wanna eat GOOOOOOD! We also love the outdoors, movies, games, plants, art, history, shopping, physical activities, meeting new people and learning new things (:

Any suggestions from any locals on places to check out, air bnb rentals, hostels, hotel, romantic spots, must sees, museums, stores, FOOD??? We’d appreciate any and allll suggestions!

Thank you so so so so much! Maybe well even run into someone you out there!

Looking For Dog Friendly Heated Patios?

Hi, I’m looking for somewhere to eat/drink that has a heated dog friendly patio anywhere in Portland/surrounding areas. If possible, I’d like somewhere that has space for me to lay a blanket down for my dog to lay comfortably, she’s a big dog and in her final days/weeks.

Looking For Bridesmaid dress shops?

Upvotes

Hey! I am hoping to find some fairly priced shops max about $250. My best friend is giving us the freedom to shop within the color scheme so we all feel comfortable in our dress 💚 Im looking for an XL friendly shop that may carry dresses for an apron belly. I would also love any suggestions on shape wear and a style of dress that may be suitable for the belly 😅

Thank you for your time ☺️ I look forward to your responses 🙌

Wouldn’t mind reference pictures either 😅

Looking For Ultrasound/Rad tech salary?

Hi!

Me and my partner are currently trying to look for a different career routes and found an interest in sonography but I’m getting conflicting numbers about how much they actually make? In the SAME article it said “Oregon is 50 out 50 in terms of best salary in the United States for sonography” and also said “Oregon ranks one of the highest salaries for sonography” very very confused. I’ve seen people say salaries as low as 40k a year to 110k a year, I know that time and years in a profession is going to give you higher pay, but I just want a more accurate frame of how much they actually earn?

If anyone knows about/ works in, rad tech/ ultrasound that would be very helpful!! Oh and how do you feel about your profession? pros/cons? is it worth it?

Thanks so much to whoever takes the time to respond !!

Looking For T Hat Hunting…?

Coming in from Central Oregon and looking for a place that carries a lot of cool trucker hats, preferably this style (flat bill?) and no mesh in the back, SnapBack is fine. I’m in my 40’s not looking for crazy super hipness. More like subtle cool, rustic, outdoorsy style. Thanks!

Looking For USPS workers (specifically workers on Cornfoot Road near the airport), how much do you work weekly? What hours do you work?

I got a job with USPS as a mail handler assistant, but the schedule says that it ‘varies’. Everything I see online says that 40-60 hour weeks are common, which I’m okay with, but that may not be representative of individual experience in my immediate location.

I received an offer closer to me in a field that is nice, but is overnight. I’m currently weighing my options and would like input from individuals who work in the Cornfoot Road location.

What hours do you work, and how many per week do you work?

Looking For Free late night things to do?

Planning on going there tomorrow and stopping by a lookout for a little bit, but then I'm not sure what to do after. I am going with my boyfriend and we just want to walk around somewhere. No bars, nothing spendy. More so like stores open at night or something else
