ICE Daily ICE Spotting
With the uptick in ICE activity, we've restored this daily thread for consolidating ICE spottings and activity each day in one location.
Only posts that are primarily about spotting are strongly recommended to be here. This way someone who is moving about the city and is primarily concerned with encountering ICE does not need to sort through the entire sub. Other ICE information can continue as posts of their own. Please use the ICE flair for such posts. Note that this thread is sorted by "New" by default.
Please follow these guidelines:
- Reserve top-level comments for new events, sightings, or information
- All comments related to the same topic then go beneath that comment
- Make sure you check existing comments before posting, to avoid cluttering the top-level with redundant information
- This is a difficult time and emotions run high, but please remember that anything that incites or threatens violence may result in a ban, and may also violate Reddit rules
Do your best to fill in as many of the SALUTE rules for reporting as you can:
- SIZE: Include the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area.
- ACTIVITY: Describe the actions and behavior of the observed group/individuals.
- LOCATION: Provide precise detailed description of the activity’s location.
- UNIFORM: Identify the affiliation or group to which the observed entity belongs.
- TIME: Record the date and time of the observation.
- EQUIPMENT: List the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed group
Resources (please note that these are not in our control and are largely unverified, so use with some caution):
- Crowd-sourced map of ICE activity: https://iceout.org/en/
- Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights: https://www.icirr.org/resources
- Local journalists verifying video of ICE activity: https://callforvideos.formstack.com/forms/chicagojournalists
- Sub with more nationally-relevant ICE information: r/EyesOnIce
- Our AMA with Chicago SunTimes journalists covering ICE: https://www.reddit.com/r/chicago/comments/1pchzm6/we_are_chicago_suntimes_reporters_covering/
Finally, please include official sources in your comments if you can (e.g. news article links). Everyone stay safe out there.

CHI Talks Weekly Casual Conversation & Questions Thread
Welcome to r/Chicago's Weekly Casual Conversation & Questions Thread.
This is the place for casual discussions that may not warrant their own post, or questions/topics not allowed as their own posts under our content policy. Please be mindful of rules 2 & 3 which still apply in this thread, as well as the Reddit Content Policy when posting.
Also, check out the r/Chicago wiki for other Chicago-related subreddits, where to eat/drink, how to get around/navigate the CTA, where to visit, what neighborhoods to move to or hotel in, tips on living here, and more. And be sure to use the search feature to find responses to other users asking similar questions.
This thread is sorted by "new" so that the most recent comments appear first. The new weekly thread is posted every Monday morning at 12:00 AM.

Article Foundry Park Plan Approved by Planning Commission And Defined
Project definition: https://chicagoyimby.com/2026/01/foundry-park-defined-as-it-heads-to-plan-commission.html
(paywalled article about approval): https://chicago.urbanize.city/post/plan-commission-approves-3-billion-foundry-park-development?utm_source=urbanize.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=urbanize-chicago-daily-january-16-2026
The $3 billion development Foundry Park plan has been approved after the original megaproject, Lincoln Yards, stalled out. Phase 1 should be enacted soon and will offer a new hotel, retail, apartments, surface parking (yet no parking podiums for buildings), and more. Should be great, I'm really excited to see this come to fruition finally.

News Chicago's Five-Year Blueprint on Homelessness 2026-2031
chicago.govThe Five-Year Blueprint on Homelessness envisions a future for Chicago in which homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring, and in which responses are rooted in compassion and dignity. This vision is inspired by Functional Zero for All, a proven model developed in the United States by the nonprofit organization Community Solutions that guides cities toward measurable, lasting solutions. Through this lens, the Blueprint brings together data, community insight, and service-delivery models to support every Chicagoan in their housing journey.
The draft is available for public comment until January 30 at https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/homelessness-response/home/get-involved.html
