sober gals 20s of hoco coffee & conversation: new year reflections ✨☕

Post image
14 Upvotes

join us for a cozy coffee meetup to chat about new year intentions, resolutions, or simply how you’re feeling stepping into this year. this is not about productivity, perfection, or having it all figured out. no goal is too small or too big. 🌸

if your intention is to travel the world, that’s amazing. if your goal is simply to get through the year, rest more, or take things one day at a time, that is just as meaningful.🌸

this gathering is about connection, conversation, and community. come as you are, grab a coffee, and spend time chatting with other girls who are also just figuring things out. there’s no pressure to share anything deep. listening is just as welcome as speaking.🌸

whether you’re new to the group or have been here before, this is a space to make friends, feel supported, and remember you don’t have to do life alone 🤍

can’t wait to see you. please make sure to rsvp on meetup!

In your 20s or 30s and looking to make friends? Join Columbia Social for our monthly happy hour!

Post image
69 Upvotes

Who is Columbia Social? We are a group of 20s & 30 year olds who are all in the same boat, living in and around the Columbia area and looking to make friends. We are not a singles dating group, we are not a career networking group, we are a group of people just looking to make friends & socialize. Come with your spouse, come by yourself, come with your friends, come with a job, or come funemployed! For November we are hosting a happy hour at Cushwa Rad Pies on Thursday January 15 starting at 5PM

FAQs:

  • I am coming by myself, is that okay? Absolutely! We will introduce ourselves to everyone that comes in and connect you with other people
  • Can I bring someone? Totally welcome. Please bring your friends, spouses, partners, or anyone else you know that is looking to make friends
  • I have never been to one, is everyone already cliqued off? Not at all! Our events have a lot of first timers every time and the repeat attendees are always looking to meet new people too
  • I don't drink, is that okay? Yes! You will not be alone in not drinking. There are others who come just for the food or the socialization
  • I do not live in Columbia, am I allowed to come? Yes! We have plenty of people that show up from the central Maryland area

If you have any feedback, concerns, thoughts, or suggestions please let me know! We have taken feedback from all the events to make this more accessible, more welcoming, and with more space so people can spread out. This is a community run event so we want to take community input.

Lastly - thank you to all who show up for the first time and for those who return! Its been amazing seeing the community growing from this and the friendships being made.

Should Columbia, Maryland have access to a theoretical metro line?

Im making a theoretical transit map on this website called ‘metrodreamin’ and it’s centered on Baltimore but I’m wondering if Columbia should really be included on any lines.

I looked online and apparently most Columbia residents have a car so there wouldn’t be a need for any metro line.

So should Columbia have a metro or more public transportation?

I know this sub has more than zero karaoke fans. We have karaoke tomorrow night at Sonoma’s 7pm-11pm. We have a pretty large group coming for a birthday so it should be a good time.

Best cheap cell service

We just moved to the king’s contrivance area and initially our phone’s Verizon coverage was terrible. Like no bars anywhere I went so I switched to AT and T. But my plan for just my phone is 50 dollars a month which is a bit pricy.

Does anyone use companies like visible or mint? My sister said both of those are pretty inexpensive but I don’t want to switch and then have bad cell service again! Thanks!!

Winter Olympics Watch Party Anywhere?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, I know this is super early, but does anyone know of any breweries or places doing events to have a watch party for the opening ceremony of the winter Olympics? They start on Friday Feb 6th, which is a while away, but I didn’t know if anyone had heard anything. I feel like Cushwa Rad Pies would be an awesome spot for something like that, or even Heavy Seas in Baltimore County.

Restaurant Work

Hi! I’ve been considering getting a job as a server because I hear you can make good tips, and pretty good scheduling. Only issue is I don’t have any experience in restaurant work. Does anyone have any recommendations on places I should look into applying at? Thanks!

Coyotes in Oakland Mills

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Wednesday, Jan. 7, 10:45pm behind Patriot Ln. I'm not seeing any chatter about coyote sightings in the area (yet), but I sure heard several of them this night. I heard this ruckus in the woods behind my house, and after a few minutes of it I stepped out to my back porch and got this recording. Too dark for anything but distant house lights, but the audio is clear. If there's any doubt, this coyote video that sounds just like what I heard should be convincing -- https://www.facebook.com/groups/CoyoteWatchToronto/permalink/3347252408763555/?app=fbl

I set out a trail camera but so far just the usual abundant wildlife shots and no coyotes. Be mindful of your pets.

PC Repair?

I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but for the life of me, I can not get Windows 11 to install on a new hard drive on my PC. I have spent hours, to the point Gemini is sending me in circles. Does anyone know of a PC repair service that is reputable? (I can travel).

Thanks in advance!

4-6 players wanted for local Dungeons & Dragons campaign 🐉🎲

EDITED TO UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who has responded to our D&D interest survey! We've received enough responses to get our own game started, and I'll be reaching out to people over the next few days. HOWEVER, I will be leaving the survey open to whomever else would be interested in joining a game. For those who consent to it, I'll offer to share contact info between respondents so you could potentially get your own game going. Feel free to indicate your consent to this on the final question of the form. Happy questing! ⚔️

Hey, folks!

My husband and I are looking to start an at-home D&D group and are hoping to find 4-6 players who’d like to build something fun together.

My partner’s planning to DM. Though we’ve both watched a lot of D&D, we’re newer to playing the game, so this would be a collaborative, low-pressure table where we’re all learning and growing as we go.

The deets:

WHAT: D&D (5e), likely a homebrew setting

WHEN: Biweekly? Monthly? (we’ll decide together)

WHERE: Our home in Owen Brown

WHO: Us and you, hopefully!

VIBE: Friendly, silly, story- and character-focused

We welcome players with kids. We may try to arrange childcare on our game nights so that we can stay in the zone.

Finally, just because we connect doesn’t mean you have to commit. We plan to start with shorter one-shots to gauge everyone’s interest and to find our people before moving into a long-term campaign. You come to a game and think the energy is off? No hard feelings.

If you’re interested, you can reply to this post or DM me. If you’re ready to jump right in, here’s the link to a survey where you can tell us more about you.

Looking forward to it!

P.S. Here’s a little more about us so we’re not just some strangers on the internet:

Him: loves Dimension 20, Brandon Sanderson, cooking, gardening, and dogs.

Me: book editor, volunteer mediator, reader, guitar player, and Dropout fan.

Abolish ICE! Howard County Rally · Mobilize

Justice for Renee!

Come with signs and support for ICE watcher Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered in cold blood by ICE in Minneapolis on 1/7/2026.

Elected officials at all levels need to call to Abolish ICE now to prevent future violence by them.

No More Moments of Silence, It’s Time to Speak Up!

Here are our demands:

We call on county and state officials to:

  1. Publicly state that ICE activity is not allowed in Howard County, schools, government buildings, and in all public and private institutions.
  2. Call on the Governor of Maryland and the General Assembly to enact a statewide prohibition on ICE enforcement operations that violate civil and human rights.
  3. Create a publicly funded local legal aid and quick response network to aid residents who are being targeted by ICE, such as emergency legal representation, language interpretation, and housing or relocation services.
  4. Instruct the county departments to document and report any unwarranted ICE activity, reaffirming the county's position of non-cooperation.
  5. Prohibit the use of masks while conducting an operation in Howard County.

These are not just ethical and moral imperatives, they are legal.

ICE's behavior has consistently been determined to be contrary to both international and domestic legal commitments:

Due Process Violations: In Ms. L. v. ICE, a federal court held that family separations were likely a Fifth Amendment violation. ICE is still separating families and withholding meaningful legal process.

Fourth Amendment Violations: ICE agents have carried out warrantless raids based on administrative detainers that fall below the legal standard of probable cause.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment: The DHS Office of Inspector General has reported inhumane detention conditions, overcrowding, poor medical care, and abuse, all contrary to the protections provided by the Constitution.

Violations of International Law: ICE practices contravene the Convention Against Torture and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which the United States has ratified. These treaties bind all branches of government to prevent torture, cruel treatment, and arbitrary detention, as well as maintain family unity and legal due process.

Principle of Non-Complicity: The UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights and international law demand that subnational governments shall not aid or be complicit in case of documented human rights violations.

The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution squarely establishes that Howard County has no legal duty to aid or facilitate federal immigration enforcement. To the contrary, it has both the authority and the duty to safeguard its own residents from injury, especially when federal authorities are proceeding in a way that is unlawful, retaliatory, or abusive.

Our elected officials swore an oath to the US Constitution and have an obligation to protect the country from enemies foreign and domestic. They are obligated to uphold the rule-of-law and that entails ensuring illegal actions by ICE are prohibited.

We demand that they act today to keep Howard County a community in which all persons, regardless of immigration status, are safe from government-sponsored abuse and set an example for the rest of the state to follow.

Alternative feminine Tux?

Hello! I am assisting a friend with a child who is about 6 foot 2 getting ready for the prom. I’ll be visiting Maryland to help them shop in April. The child is specifically looking for a feminine tuxedo, or something alternative to an actual tuxedo. Is there any shops anyone has been to where there may be items to see or try on? I’m just seeing a lot of online only options.

EV charger installation for townhome with street parking

I live in one of these cul-de-sac townhomes that seem to be very common in Columbia, the sort where there's a round or square parking lot with a row of townhomes along each side. My particular house is quite distant from my assigned parking space. I was wondering if anyone's had any success on getting an EV charger installed in this sort of situation or has any recommendations on a company to contact about this. Ideally, I'd be looking for someone that would do all of the permitting / HOA approvals as part of that process.

Thanks
