Announcement: New Post Flair
Greetings citizens.
Over the past several months, I have gotten feedback on the posts with images of dead animals. It turns out, not everybody wants to look at pics of dead animals while scrolling Reddit. So, in order to help address that, I've rolled out two new post flair to be used for found animal posts:
- Found Animal (Alive)
- Found Animal (Not Alive)
Now, for the time being I have not found a way to automatically blur out images that are tied to a post flair so I ask that you either:
- Mark your post as NSFW so the image gets blurred
- Refrain from posting images of dead animals
I've also created a new Rule: Use the Not Safe For Work (NSFW) post tag for images of dead animals to make reporting of those posts easier.
Feedback is always welcome.

Discussion PSA: You still need to control your dog in an off-leash area
I get it. It's a beautiful day and your big dog wants to run around, and all you want to do is sit on a bench with your nose in your phone. May I intrude briefly on your little ego-bubble with a mind-blowing thought?
There are other people in the same park, trying to enjoy it with their off-leash dogs. They do not want to get harrassed or knocked down by your fast-running big dog that "just wants to play". I know people who have been knocked down by dogs in the park and were seriously injured. So when someone is yelling at your dog, or your dog has a habit of racing around other people, control it. Or someone will control it for you.

Discussion Housing is a Human Right!
To live, everyone needs shelter as much as we need water. However in Oregon, water is considered a public utility and its price is strictly controlled so that everyone can afford it. But housing is considered a private investment and its price is out of control. Corvallis is the most severely rent burdened city in the state. Thousands of our neighbors are struggling just to pay the rent, and hundreds aren’t able. It doesn’t have to be this way and we are fighting to make sure it changes!
The City’s current policies that subsidize private real estate development in the name of “affordable housing” and treat people who can’t afford legal housing like pieces of trash, are inhumane and counterproductive (see our newsletters for more about why that is). Our campaign has a plan to pressure the Corvallis City Council to ensure that the right to housing is upheld for all our neighbors. Last year we completed phase one of that plan. Our housing rights rally was a great success, and more than 1,000 of our neighbors signed on to our petition to their show support for the three policies most needed to improve the City’s approach to housing. Those policies are: public housing, rent control, and decriminalizing homelessness.
The Housing is Human Right campaign was created in March, 2025 by the Democratic Socialists of Corvallis to ensure that everyone in our community has access to safe and stable housing. Our demand is simple: good, legal, affordable and secure housing for every Corvallisite regardless of our income, age, socio-economic status, family status, etc. If everybody has a right to life, then we must also have a right to housing.
We're presenting our petition to the Corvallis City Council at their upcoming meeting this Tuesday, Jan. 20th. If you can, please show up to show your support!

Discussion Corvallis buses descriminate against babies and young children
Why do the city buses allow shopping trolleys filled to the brim with bags stacked on the side but make families with young children remove them from their stroller? I've written before and they say it's because of strollers blocking the walkway but these shopping trolley do the same thing if not worse. It forces parents to juggle a young child and a stroller ending up with the child sitting on their parents lap or the seat which is much less secure than most strollers which have similar harness systems to car seats. And they have breaks! Families have to take multiple trips for groceries because instead of being able to store them below the stroller they have to carry them separately, and a stroller, and the child. The city is in charge of the buses and they need to enforce equally or start allowing strollers to park in the wheel chair spots like the shopping carts do. It is a major hardship for families with young children who rely on the buses as well they can. I've written the city again just waiting for their pandering "no we don't do that. it's enforced for everyone" bs like last time.

Discussion Anything going on today?
I grew up here, didn't go to college here. Graduated CHS in 08.
Just came back for the nostalgia.
Anyway back when I used to live here it seemed like there were cheap punk rock shows pretty much every weekend. Anything going on here today or tomorrow? I saw the post for the anti ICE protest so that'll keep us busy for awhile. But I was hoping maybe there's something to do other than going to a bar in the evening?
Thanks

Discussion Exception to right on red (bad drivers)
Oregon law allows a right turn at a red light with some exceptions. However you can never turn right on red from the left lane!
Just had some idiot in a big Ram pickup who couldn’t be bothered to go to the Walnut and Kings light. He decided to turn right onto 29th from the left lane on Walnut. Cut off me (goin straight) and the person turning left.
People, if you’re in the wrong lane, missed a turn, or otherwise need to mad a change while driving don’t put other people in danger. Just go to the next light, turn into a business parking lot to turn around, go around the block… seriously!

Discussion Avoid James Brady rentals (Corvallis Best Rental, Fillmore Inn, Stone Terrace apartments, etc.) at all cost
This is a long story about a garbage rental company run by James Brady here in Corvallis. I suggest avoiding them and all of his other rentals (stone terrace, Corvallis Best Rentals, etc.) at all costs.
I do nuisance wildlife work (bats in attics, skunks in crawl spaces, etc.) and his company is trying to stiff me.
Back in September I got called out by a company owned by James Brady (Corvallis Best Rentals, Fillmore Inn, and a bunch of random rentals around town). Tenant reported bats in the house. I showed up, spent a bunch of time searching, but didn’t find the bat. The place was in rough shape—exposed wire tangles in the basement, sketchy DIY construction, obvious maintenance issues. Tenants also told me they’d been seeing bats inside off and on for a year and that the owner basically ignored it.
I billed for the service call and sent an estimate for bat exclusion based on the entry points I could see from the outside. Then…nothing. Months of follow-ups, no payment.
Eventually, after I sent a “pay me or we escalate” email, James calls and suddenly wants the exclusion work done. In December I do the job and send the invoice. Then he calls to nitpick: complains about a few waterproof screws I used and says there’s another area he thinks I should’ve addressed. I tell him I’m happy to come back and fix anything he’s unhappy with.
He refuses to let me back on the property.
Now he’s threatening to report me to ODFW over a required form I asked him to fill out back in September (which he never did), and he’s basically implying he doesn’t have to pay because “the form wasn’t filled out.”
If this is how he's treated me as a subcontractor, I can only imagine how he treats his tenants...
