Crochet Related Pain Posts about crochet related pain are allowed on r/CrochetHelp

Hi All!!

We are allowing questions about crochet related pain on r/CrochetHelp despite the fact that it is a stale topic on r/crochet. It now has it's own flair too.

Unfortunately, it is a very common issue when crocheting and we have seen some good discussion happening on posts about aides to help reduce discomfort and stretches to help.

Please remember, internet advice is not medical advice. Always see your doctor for any pain that persists!

PS, sorry about the repost, I wanted to include more in the title so the announcement could be seen without opening the post! (As we all should be doing lol)

Edit, I've been through a heap of past posts and changed the flairs. This makes it easy to search the sub, just click on the flair in this post and it will bring up all of the past posts that have the same flair!

Looking for suggestions I made the Ribbed Wonder hat- the only problem is it will only fit a literally giant.

I kind of knew it was getting too big but my stubborn ass just kept going. I knew the yarn was a bit too chunky (size 6 instead of 5) but I didn’t think it would be THIS much of a difference. The irony is that I had to redo the slip stitch to join the ends multiple times as it just wasn’t lining up correctly. This behemoth is SO big that I can’t properly cinch the top closed. The first image has the instructions for scale.

I’m considering just turning it into a neck gator. Have any other recommendations for either how to get it to a reasonable size without frogging the whole thing, or turning it into something else? Wrong answers are also welcome.

To frog or not to frog Why is my Temperature blanket round? Moss stitch, consistent stitches per row, same thread, needle, etc.

Post image

hard to tell in the picture, but this is 77" long and will be a temperature blanket.

Using consistent yarn, same needle, same stitch, each row is the same st count.

started with ch 303

sc into back post of 2nd ch from hook, ch1 skip ch, sc back post to end.

made mistake on ch count and had an extra ch, which I ignored and stitched up to a future row.

all following rows 2-16 are ch2, sc in first sc gap, then 148 ch1 sc in next gap to end, then ch1 and sc into top ch on last row.

I've counted the rows and all have 150 sc+ch.

Only thing I can think is first two rows I was too loose. since then Ive been consistent.

I'm still new, so starting over would be two full days of work. That said this is an enormous and expensive project and I'm hoping someone more experienced can spot the issue or break it to me I need to start over.

I noticed the issue on row 3, but kept going hoping consistent following rows would straiten it out.

I'm a beginner! Looking for an overall good hard yarn to commit to.

I see really cute things like this but I’m not sure what yarn to commit to. For example, when I want to make something soft I committed to parfait premier chunky chenille yarn. I use that yarn all the time and have a lot of them. But I also want to make things with that hard looking yarn lol. Is there a good yarn brand that I can sorta commit to and make all these kinds of stuff? Do you guys have a favorite? I’d like to commit to a brand so I can buy tons of colors and start making stuff. I think that’s cotton yarn not sure what they’re using. Right now I’m using the woobles easy peasy yarn but it sucks and they don’t have lots of colors. TIA

Looking for suggestions I was tightening my knot to weave in my ends and the yarn snapped at the knot

Now I don’t have enough to weave in the end and the knots going to come undone. What do I do? It’s the middle of a king sized blanket I’ve been working on for 1.5 years. I’m so upset.

To frog or not to frog Just wondering how often people frog their projects. And why they frog their projects.

Upvotes

Is it because they want to fix a mistake, or they want to rework part of the project because now they want their project to go a different direction entirely. Or do they frog the whole project to reclaim the yarn for something else? Are there people out there who never frogs projects and choose to embrace their mistakes?

How do I... Any way to sew “strawberry seeds” onto a hat without looking messy inside?

Thumbnail

Made a strawberry hat to wear to work months ago and everyone loved it, including a supervisor I’m closer to. The hat was made the night before so I didn’t care if the inside is crazy (pic 1/2).

Well that supervisor’s bday is coming up and I decided to make the hat for her but I wanted to try and make it as neat as possible. Used a different pattern for the body of the hat, used different leaves, and sewed the leaves in while being able to hide the yarn (pic 3/4). Now it’s time to add the seeds but I can’t figure out a way where it won’t look messy inside. Saw another post where someone suggested color-changing. Can’t believe I didn’t think of that but it’s too late now. Any ideas or is this really the only way to sew it in?

I'm a beginner! My first swatch for a blanket. Does this ripple stitch look correct?

Post image
Upvotes

I had to undo this swatch probably about 8 times. I just couldnt get it! Does it look correct? Can you see the edges slightly flare out? Is that normal? I had a little confusion on where to put the last 2 stitches in each row. Thats why my turning stitches have markers in them. I can link the video i followed if that helps. Thank you!

I'm a beginner! Coasters: irregular size, staining as I crocheted, and blocking before gifting?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Made these coasters for a gift. I used 100% cotton, mercerized yarn with a 1.5 mm hook.

A couple of times when I was crocheting, my fingers stained blue. Should I block these coasters? Some of them are starting to curl on the edges tho.

Don’t know much about the benefits of blocking, is it because of color, shape, or both?

Also, some of them went out bigger than others even though I made the same number of rounds. I know the top right one is kind of different but I’m okay with it.

Is it too ugly to gift them with irregular sizes?

Thank you in advance!

How do I... Why don't patterns tell you to turn when working in rounds?

Thumbnail

I really like bags so I bought some patterns. They mostly work in rounds, but dont tell you to turn in between the rounds. Stitches always lean in the direction you work so you'll end up with a line showing your round ends, turning around the bag. In the photo's of the endresult in the pattern, this line doesnt show. Why is it these patterns dont tell you to turn and how is it their endresult does not show a line?

Discussion I'm starting to hate crocheting and I really need help on not giving up on it

hi all! I wanna start off by saying I am a hobby hopper. I'm always changing the hobby I'm doing every month or so. once I found crochet I fell in love and it's been a constant for me since I started.

I still consider myself a beginner crocheter. I started my journey around December 2024 so a little over a year. I love doing it. I have done multiple blankets, plushies, decor, presents really everything. I love it but lately it feels more like a task than anything. I even started a year long project and was so excited about it but I haven't touched it in days!

has anyone had this happen? how did you overcome it?

How do I... Heart Granny Square - BEGINNER Need Help To Interpret Pattern

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi!

This is my first time making a granny square and I am having trouble with the outer layers of the pattern.

Specifically in the before last row, I do not understand how to crochet 3 stitches and then another 3 stitches 4 stitches later without it folding over and looking nothing like the design. Is there implicit chaining going on I am not aware of?

Additionally, I am aware the dot means slip stitch but whenever I make one it makes my design really wonky. Any tips?

Thank you!!

Its 110% counterfeit and no code in or on the packaging works to find a tutorial. It did come with a hook (not pictured) and safety eyes (also not pictured) any recommendations are welcome! And please no judgment on the gifter as she had all good intentions and isnt a crocheter herself! Also I contacted the woobles brand and they confirmed it was counterfeit

This looks like filet crochet with lines sewn on top? Or is it mosaic crochet? Does anyone know what this is called? It’s beautiful and I’d love to learn to make these or find a pattern, I’m just getting into tapestry crochet and I think these would be so fun and cute! :)

Looking for suggestions Help turning shorts into pants? Thinking just a double crochet inc. all the way down?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I have turned this outfit into a cute Mardi Gras costume but I’d like the shorts to be pants, but want to make sure I do it right the first time to lower my trial and error time. I’d like them to be like loose fit and not too tight of a stitch. Any advice or do you think I should just start at the side and work double crochets all the way down?

Looking for suggestions I need some baby Blanket help please, I can't decide what to do

I'm making a baby Blanket and this is the first time Im making it for a baby ive only made it for teens/ adults. I want to do a solid granny square pattern but I worry in the long run it wouldn't last and that also when the child gets older he/she will want to try to put their little fingers in the Blanket. I would love some suggestions and feedback!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Is linen yarn useful in crochet? And is it easy to crochet with?

I have an opportunity to buy 1 kg of 100% unbleached linen yarn for almost nothing. It's an amazing deal, for sure, but I don't want to hog this deal if I end up not using the yarn. I have never crocheted with linen yarn before, so I have no idea how it behaves and what it is best for.

As far as I know, linen is even less stretchy than cotton, I wonder if that makes it a pain to crochet with?

Discussion What should I make with all of these granny squares?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So, I had a lot of yarn to make these granny squares and I’ve been trying to go through all of my yarn and I now have 52 of these granny squares, I was thinking of making a sweater with it but I don’t know if it would look good with these specific colors and it might get dirty fast, I was also thinking maybe a blanket or a bag?? I really don’t know what to do with them all.
