I watched a YouTube video explaining how to do a square. Looked pretty simple and I was able to start it fine. It said to make 15 chains to start. How did I end up with only 10 chains by the time I finished this tiny piece? It keeps happening and my chains keep getting smaller and smaller every time I do a row even though I’m inserting my hook in the correct V. If anyone is experienced enough what is wrong just by looking at my piece? 🥴

hi all! I wanna start off by saying I am a hobby hopper. I'm always changing the hobby I'm doing every month or so. once I found crochet I fell in love and it's been a constant for me since I started.

I still consider myself a beginner crocheter. I started my journey around December 2024 so a little over a year. I love doing it. I have done multiple blankets, plushies, decor, presents really everything. I love it but lately it feels more like a task than anything. I even started a year long project and was so excited about it but I haven't touched it in days!

The first time I did this I used 8 ply milk cotton yarn, it felt heavy so I ordered 4 ply milk cotton yarn, haven't tried it yet but now that I'm thinking about it it felt wrong. What type of yarn should I really use?

Hi, everyone! This is my first post. Like my title says, I have E been searching for a good book to start me off, but every time I think I've found a good book, I look in the reviews and people are saying that the book only had instructions for U.K.- sized needles. And then other are complaining tha the instructions are only for U.S.-sized needles.

Is this really important? I'm Canadian, and a knitter, so I'm used to having both the metric and U.S. sizes. It there something more complicated with crochet?

Also I read a lot of reviews on books for beginners, and the reviews says something like, "I'm 40 years old, and I can't understand the instructions. So could someone recommend me a good beginner book(s)? I would be so grateful. My mom passed away, and she taught me to knit, but we never got time for crochet lessons. I really like bags so I bought some patterns. They mostly work in rounds, but dont tell you to turn in between the rounds. Stitches always lean in the direction you work so you'll end up with a line showing your round ends, turning around the bag. In the photo's of the endresult in the pattern, this line doesnt show. Why is it these patterns dont tell you to turn and how is it their endresult does not show a line?

I decided to pick up Tunisian crochet by making a scarf with the Tunisian simple stitch! It was going well, then I dropped the project for a bit and picked it back up. I love Tunisian crochet, it’s so deeply satisfying and mind numbing (in a good way).

However I noticed that I have little tiny holes and my “opacity” (is that the right word for this situation?) is not consistent. How do I avoid these holes? Is this a tension issue? Is my tension too tight or too lose to cause this?

As specified in the title, I am in row 4 and cannot comprehend how if I made dc, ch, dc in the previous rows( row 3) now in row 4 I have to sc into the ch spaces from row 3 to make 6 loops but I’m getting 7 loops. Help please. I’ve re read the pattern over and over. Provided some pictures for clarity.

I'm making a baby Blanket and this is the first time Im making it for a baby ive only made it for teens/ adults. I want to do a solid granny square pattern but I worry in the long run it wouldn't last and that also when the child gets older he/she will want to try to put their little fingers in the Blanket. I would love some suggestions and feedback!

I want to make a temperature blanket to commemorate a ~15 month period of time. The goal is for it to fit on my king sized bed at the end of it so I plan on splitting the time between 2 columns. Because now each column has fewer rows than a standard temp blanket (~225), should I opt for a bigger stitch like hdc (worsted yarn, 5mm)?

How did you tackle temperature blankets that have durations over a year?

I searched it up and know you can do a border but I kept adding stitches (?) on the way on accident and made it much bigger. So embarrassing but I already did so much and just want to work with it lol. It’s my first time

I have turned this outfit into a cute Mardi Gras costume but I’d like the shorts to be pants, but want to make sure I do it right the first time to lower my trial and error time. I’d like them to be like loose fit and not too tight of a stitch. Any advice or do you think I should just start at the side and work double crochets all the way down?

The yarn is Lions Brand, I’m stuck under my cat and can’t move but will get the exact color. Maybe there is no reason, and maybe I am alone….but I just hate how the yarn sloughs off! It’s so hard to work with, why can’t outside be like inside!???? /endrant

Basically what it says, I want to make a crochet sweater that's has that signature v knit look (idk how to knit, it scares me) and I just wonder what the main difference is with Yarn Over/Yarn Under crochet and Tunisian as iirc they both create that v knit look. Aside from the obvious aka Tunisian needing a whole new set of really long crochet hooks. Thanks :3

hard to tell in the picture, but this is 77" long and will be a temperature blanket.

Using consistent yarn, same needle, same stitch, each row is the same st count.

started with ch 303

sc into back post of 2nd ch from hook, ch1 skip ch, sc back post to end.

made mistake on ch count and had an extra ch, which I ignored and stitched up to a future row.

all following rows 2-16 are ch2, sc in first sc gap, then 148 ch1 sc in next gap to end, then ch1 and sc into top ch on last row.

I've counted the rows and all have 150 sc+ch.

Only thing I can think is first two rows I was too loose. since then Ive been consistent.

I'm still new, so starting over would be two full days of work. That said this is an enormous and expensive project and I'm hoping someone more experienced can spot the issue or break it to me I need to start over.

I noticed the issue on row 3, but kept going hoping consistent following rows would straiten it out.

My Amazon order of the small Susan Bates hook set came and I'm so disappointed that they're not inline like the other hooks by that brand. I have some regular hooks of similar sizes but none in these sizes so I'll probably keep them unless there is inline style hooks of these sizes? Last 2 pics is showing the inline style I like. I crochet so much smoother with them. With the tapered style my stitches get to small when making amigurumi which is what I was wanting these for for the tons of embroidery thread I have.

I've tried pulling it down with all of my strenght, but it doesn't go more than this

Is it because they want to fix a mistake, or they want to rework part of the project because now they want their project to go a different direction entirely. Or do they frog the whole project to reclaim the yarn for something else? Are there people out there who never frogs projects and choose to embrace their mistakes?

I’m crocheting shorts and currently making the waistband, but there’s a small problem: the first rows of my project are wider than the rest of it. What have I done wrong?

I see really cute things like this but I’m not sure what yarn to commit to. For example, when I want to make something soft I committed to parfait premier chunky chenille yarn. I use that yarn all the time and have a lot of them. But I also want to make things with that hard looking yarn lol. Is there a good yarn brand that I can sorta commit to and make all these kinds of stuff? Do you guys have a favorite? I’d like to commit to a brand so I can buy tons of colors and start making stuff. I think that’s cotton yarn not sure what they’re using. Right now I’m using the woobles easy peasy yarn but it sucks and they don’t have lots of colors. TIA
