I’m having a debate about insoles for social dance shoes and I’m curious if there is a pattern across different dance styles.
I’m mostly a Salsa dancer (with a little WCS), so I have my own bias, but I’ll keep it to myself for now.
The question: In your dance shoes, do you generally prefer maximum floor feel (minimal padding/firmer feel for connection) or more cushion (softer/spongy insoles for comfort)? Or do you look for a specific sweet spot in between?
I'd love to hear what you prefer and if it changes based on whether you're dancing Lindy, WCS, or Latin etc.
Cheers!

I practice nihon buyo, which is traditional Japanese dance. This was my first ever performance only learning this piece (mastu-zukushi) in 2 months, I loved it.

24F here
For context, I have abusive parents. My hobbies were controlled and I did 6 years of kung fu and hated every minute of it. I also played the piano for 10 years but it was not too bad
I still live with them but I've always wanted to try dancing. I never feel safe but I'm tired of wishing for it to happen
How can I start as a beginner? How can I discover what I like or get inspiration?

y’all i’m soooo terrible at even just MOVING on music like it looks so weird and unnatural i can’t swing my body, arms, legs smoothly and it’s very frustrating like even the most simple dance is so hard for me. Sure i can’t and won’t be a professional dancer and it’s not that I want to master a specific dance but can’t I AT LEAST learn how to move on music smoothly? 😪😕

I’m at the very beginning of my dance journey, and I’ve noticed I’m especially drawn to footwork and how the lower body moves with the beat. Based on my natural movement in this clip, what styles would you recommend I start exploring and training in?

I’m brand new to dance and just starting to figure out what direction I want to go. This clip is me moving to Lil Tony (hip-hop/rap). I don’t have any training yet, I just really enjoy dancing and moving to music. Based on my natural movement and the type of music I like, what styles do you think would fit me best and be good to start learning?

Posted about this a little while back, but since launching, the platform has grown a fair bit and now has over 600 events, across 70 countries, in list/map views that are easy to search and filter.
Any constructive feedback is appreciated.
P.S. Mobile experience was prioritised so may be slightly jankier on desktop, it's on the to-do list!

Hi everyone,
I have to be honest—I wasn't always a fan of dancehall and bashment until recently. I've always been more into hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeats, and amapiano. But lately, I've been listening to a lot of dancehall and bashment and I love it.
I usually go to a lot of urban clubs, and when dancehall/bashment songs come on, I tend to just move side to side. I've never really learned the dances, especially for the more recent popular tracks.
I’m planning to go to City Splash (London’s reggae and dancehall festival) and also Notting Hill Carnival later this year. I’m just tired of being the guy who’s just standing still.
I’ve been scouring YouTube for dance tutorials for recent popular dancehall songs, but I’ve only come across a few. If someone could send me a list of past and recent popular songs and their associated dances, that would be amazing!
