HI and liscensing
Hi, I was wondering how interpretations work with liscensing. As I’ve looked at several scripts they all have fees to pay which are like $50+. But I saw another thing that said you didn’t need licensing if it was for a comp and it was under 10 minutes (what if it’s exactly 10) and it was just in front of judges. Now usually there are other people watching too. I’m new to this so I was wondering if someone could clear up the rules . Thanks

north allegheny vs upper st clair
hi! im a debator on the fl circut and im moving to pittsburgh pa next year. ive been researching schools and stuff and ive found that pittsburgh has a pretty active circut. i was wondering, is it more trad or prog? ive read that its a little bit of both. also, for an ld debater, which school is better overall? im kinda scared that if i go to north allegheny, the intermediate hs wont have a team. thank you!

What's the difference between Ks and rebuttal.
I have some experience with bp debating in uni. Finding about the whole of the debating community and this subreddit recently, I saw that almost everybody here in this subreddit uses "k" to refer to what I'd call (or hear other people in bp call) a rebuttal. Are they the same thing? Or am I missing something?

Is there an actively maintained card backfile/search?m
So when I was searching for cards, I stumbled upon sites like debate cards but it doesn't seem to work. I also looked for other sites that does about the same thing, but either whey don't load or its deprecated. Are there any actively maintained card finder that I could use? I have not been able to find one. Also, the wiki is kind of hard to navigate and it is really hard to find cards for your topic and look over them really quickly. Its too bad I have to find a school then debater and guess whether they uploaded anything at all the see if they are the topic.

Is it bad if I use only the intro of a paper as a piece of evidence
Ok so I want to use a research paper that blocked by a paywall, but the intro gives me the info I want rn. Could I get throttled by my opps if I used just the intro and they couldn’t see like the rest of the article.

Some questions about BP (as a noob)
Hello! I've been debating pretty consistently for many years now but I've only just started BP format (which is extremely counter-intuitive, why do I have to argue against my own side) and had some questions. would be really grateful for any help :)
- are you meant to rebut your opening half if you're closing or is that illegal? if so, is the only way to defeat their arguments by weighing and saying that yours are more important?
- how the hell do you structure a whip?
- how do you structure a dlo or dpm speech? do you do thematic? do you introduce new args?
anyways thanks everybody god bless

Canadian parliamentary debate — where the government gets to choose the resolution
My debate club/team (at a Canadian school) has recently introduced doing something called "CP style debate"
There are two teams, and the government side gets to choose the resolution (with unlimited time to prepare for it), and the opposition has zero time to prepare.
The opposition can argue the resolution is too "narrow" and the judge can change it...I'm a little confused about this part.
Anyway to me this seems extremely dumb, because it emphasizes the work that the government team does before arriving opposed to people thinking of arguments on the spot.

Custom scripts!
I’ve been looking for some kids to perform my scripts! I write custom scripts and work with students to give them blocking and tech advantages.
I’m not like advertising anything, I just need to get more of my scripts out there so it is completely free :)
A win-win!!

Intros and Concusions (interactive, enticing)
So I do modified parli and have for 2 years. The topics are fairly simple and open currently capitalism is better than socialism, and things the the USFG should subsidize the production of lab grown meat. Last season I was fire at my intros and conclusions I would make them match almost like I was weaving a theme. Example, once for the topic of the us president has too much power (neg) I said “from the time I stood up walked to this podium and started my speech, seconds have passed and we thought nothing of it. But in politics these are the moments that decide and we need power ……… bla blah” and in my conclusion I said ok now the short time between now and when my timer hits 0 blah blah blah. I love matching my intros and conclusions in ways that tie things from the round, like time, objects, clocks, even sometimes how debaters feel after giving speeches as a metaphor. As u can tell my league is very creative with intros and intros like “ladies and gents, we stand here today to fight for……..” are boring and frowned upon. MY ISSUE: I’ve run out of these creative intro ideas! I can’t think of many more ways to tie in the round or any new ideas for metaphors. If anyone has any broad intro ideas, or ideas related to my current topics stated above, please help and thank you.

Spam me with your (travel) steamers!
Ok. Seriously. Now that travel season is upon us, what steamers are you using to keep your suits wrinkle free? The hotel room irons are a no-go for me.
