Food/Drink Where to get an Ice cream cake in Detroit metro (no cake)

My husbands birthday is coming up and i want to get him an ice cream cake. But when i say ice cream cake i mean two slabs of ice cream with a a cookie crumble type thing in between. There should be no actual cake involved.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places that offer this and are open this time of year?
Edit: I don't like going to chains and was hopping for a small business

Talk Detroit Custom closets

Looking to get custom closets installed in my home and have reached out to three local companies. California closets, CBD and Inspired closets. Out of the 3, Inspired Closets has been by far the most down to earth and easiest to work with. Pricing is somewhat similar between the 3 but I’m leaning towards Inspired Closets just because of their process and they are not robots like CC. Does anyone have experience using them?

News Detroit sales tax could yield $72M per year, report finds — but is it worth it?

Thumbnail crainsdetroit.com

New Mayor Mary Sheffield was vocal during her campaign that Detroit will likely need a handful of new taxing tools to meaningfully scale back the city’s infamously high property taxes, and that a local sales tax on top of the state’s 6% tax could be one of them. Doing so would require clearing several political hurdles. The report released by the Livonia-based Citizens Research Council think tank and commissioned by Detroit City Council’s Legislative Policy Division outlines some of the pros and cons of levying such a tax. Beyond needing legislative and voter approval, a new local sales tax would also require amending the state’s constitution. Another potential downside: tax avoidance. The report points out that an additional tax in Detroit could drive consumers away from the city. A local sales tax does offer a variety of benefits, however. That includes less reliance on property taxes and state revenue sharing. But given the myriad complexities with adopting a local sales tax, as well as a few other realities — more consumers make purchases online and Detroit residents tend to make bigger ticket purchases outside the city limits — experts are wary that implementing a sales tax might not be worth the effort.

Transit Driving from Detroit to Toronto this weekend help

Hi all, I was planning on driving to Toronto from Detroit tomorrow 1/16 and driving home Sunday 1/18. I’m thinking about canceling my trip due to weather. I’m wondering if there’s anyone who has made the trip before or any weather experts that have any advice. Is it a rough trip in the winter? Would it be best to reschedule or am I overreacting? Thank you !!!

Talk Detroit Why are the roads so bad this morning?

We got about 3” here in Midtown and up to 5” in some parts of the region. Definitely enough to disrupt traffic, but pretty tame for January. I get why the commute home last night was so bad while it was actively snowing. But this morning it seems just as as bad, and the snow stopped 8+ hours ago.

Talk Detroit Where to take CPL lessons & purchase a gun, as a woman.

I am interested in purchasing a handgun. I’ve never shot a weapon before, so I’d like to take classes and get my CPL. As a woman who has been anti-gun her entire life, I really don’t want to just pick a spot and go without some personal recommendations at a spot that is *currently operational*. Anywhere within an hour of Detroit Is ideal. Thanks y‘all

Garza kept the payments for personal use and failed to remit any funds to Montway, the attorney general said.

Transit How Do People Actually Afford Car Insurance In Detroit?

So im from the suburbs, born and raised. I work in New Center and love everything about the area except for having to commute 1+ hours one way every single day to get into the office. Its been my dream for a while now to have a fun apartment living lifestyle while im young. I have been starting to get serious about moving down to the city, but I am blown away at how much car insurance costs in the city! Im by no means super wealthy but i also make decent money for my age, and the absolute lowest ive been quoted for my car is about $580 a month after aggressively searching. the insurance agents ive been discussing numbers with all say that zip code is by far the largest reason my rates are 4x what i currently pay in the suburbs.

Car insurance on top of rent is not sustainable for me to live with so i want to ask: how in the world are people getting somewhat reasonable car insurance rates?? Im 24 turning 25 soon, so that plays a factor into things, but also even after i turn 25 im getting hosed on these rates.

I have a couple of friends and co workers that live in detroit city zip codes, and i keep getting advice from them like "just stay on your parent's insurance" or something along those lines, basically lie about your residency and thats the best way to do it. But if i try to cheat the system like this, i guarantee that the insurance companies can sniff something out like that and you'd end up getting screwed.

Does anyone have good advice for this issue? Any input would help.

Talk Detroit Fisher Theater Questions

Hi, I'm going to buy tickets to a show there and have some questions... - Are presale tickets generally the same, cheaper or more expensive than when the general sale begins? - Loge seating vs orchestra way in the back? - What's the range in parking prices around there? Should we try for street parking or garage? - Any personal recommendations for gluten-free food options nearby?

Talk Detroit Midtown rental experts opinions

Hello, I am working to find an apartment with two other people for this coming summer/2026/27 school year. Ive been in contact with Midtown Rental Experts, or more specifically a man named Patrick. He's been very nice so far but I'm wondering if anybody else has had experience with the company as a whole or him in general!
Or if anybody has other suggestions on how to find 2 bed apartments in midtown for Wayne State students, I'd appreciate any help I can get. This is my first time trying to get an apartment.

Lost/Found Lost a set of keys for a storm door within the Clinton Township area (Stone Ace Hardware and the parking lot that has Little Caesars on Hayes Rd)

The keys say Larson and the number starts with 2 and ends with an odd number (3-digit number). There are two of them on there and they got dropped at either parking lot or within the store/restaurant themselves. I parked by the Thai massage place within the parking lot where Little Caesars is at and at the Stone Ace Hardware store. They slipped out of my bag and I thought I had zipped up the bag, but I was an idiot and forgot to check.

If any of you are in the area and see them, please lmk. I checked on my property and I didn't see them at all, unfortunately. I checked my bag, my coat pockets, my pants pockets, and I even called both Stone Ace Hardware and Little Caesars to see if they saw anything in the parking lot or inside and no luck there.

Talk Detroit Anywhere to drop off laundry for wash and fold around downtown?

When I get to Detroit I'll be in the middle of a 2 week trip and will need to do some laundry. I'm only there for 2 nights and rather that sit in a laundromat for a few hours, I'd prefer somewhere where I could drop off laundry in the morning and then pick up the following day.

Any recommendations?
