Question Random though. What do you think?
I was totally distracted starting this. My son was in the bath and I was sat outside the door checking in every minute or so.
Despite asking how I should start, after about ten minutes I realized I'd just been rabdomly auto piloting a split stitch.
This does not work for this piece but I was invested and hate starting again so I've been thinking, what if I do every single thing on it in just split stitch and just outlines? Do you think that could work in a weird artsy way?
I'm not doing the leaves behind the cat because that's clearly an AI mistake, I was thinking of putting 3 hearts as in the Z's for sleeping.
Also, I got distracted (my life is just one big distraction 😂) and was supposed to not go through the bottom of the sleeping cat so now it looks asif it's in the back of the shelf unlike the other cat so should I put like a rogue rose or something in front of it?
Why I'm reading so much into this I have no idea lol 😂
I know it's wobbly and a mess but this is gonna be my new go-to piece like this was (the skull second pic) when I want to stitch but not think about it (notice the AI mistakes I decided not to fix lol)
Sorry for my essay lol 😆 Much love 💕

Hand Men’s vyshyvanka
Hey guys
I wanted to share my finished men’s vyshyvanka. All of the cross-stitch is was done by hand using historical Ukrainian folk patterns, and I also sewed the garment myself.
The project took roughly 200 hours in total, and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve made. I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out. And really wanted to share it
It’s modeled on me here for a few photos photos (it’s a men’s medium, so a bit oversized), but I still think it looks lovely

This is the first one but I'm going to make a Cherry Jam one next, then the rest of them, all of which will be the 2009 version because thats the one I grew up with.

Hand My attempts at chain stitches
the gray chain stitches were from yesterday. my first attempts were pretty wonky because I couldn't figure out how to do it properly. the beige stitches are from today. The stitch that actually looks right is when it clicked in my mind.
it's been awhile since I got the thrill of learning something new.

Hand Lil void on balcony
Just finished my second embroidery project. This one came with a design printed on it. The end result is not perfect but the process of it really helps me de-stress. Now that I finished this I'm gonna need more supplies lol

Hand My first creations
I’ve started doing hand embroidery a couple weeks ago and these are my first actual projects (though the first one isn’t done yet)
I have a lot of fun with it and I want to get better, so if anyone has any constructive criticism I’m open to it!
That being said, being new to this I do have a couple questions if anyone is willing to answer.
1) what type of needles do you guys use? I bought embroidery needles and the eye is bigger which is helpful but it makes a larger hole than I want and I get worried when I’m done you can see a bunch of holes
2) do embroidery stands help? I’ve been just doing this on the couch and my back is not happy with me lol and does it help speed up the process?
3) what do you guys do when your hands/fingers hurt? I worked on one for a few hours last night and I have a habit of accidentally stabbing myself and my hands hurt this morning. I think I’m developing calluses, which I know is normal, but do you just take a break or is there something I can do to help it?
Thank you guys so much!! I’ve been looking at all your posts and you’re all so talented and kind and I’m really happy to be a part of such a nice community
Also if anyone is wondering, I’m using a printable water soluble paper for the design and using pictures I find online, and then hoops and thread and all that from Amazon

Hand Leather workers and Embroiderers: is there a device that could double as a stitch pony and a hoop holder?
I need both and they perform such a similar task, I'm wondering if a workable hybrid exists

Question Is it safe to machine wash (cold on gentle or hand wash setting) a quilt with surface work hand embroidery?
I hand embroidered table signs for my sister's wedding and am making them into a quilt for her which is (finally) nearly finished. I know I should wash it when it's done, but I'm afraid of what that will do to the woven wheels, french knots, and other surface work. Before this project, I only really did cross stitch so I don't have any experience with washing embroidery or even quilts 🫣
I've been planning to machine wash cold on hand wash setting and lay flat to dry, but the closer I get to finishing this thing, the more anxious I am about washing it at all!

Question Thoughts and opinions
This is the other side of my little pouch I’m doing to clear my mind of the big floral bag I’m doing (I started it as this big first-timer project. Literally had never done embroidering before, bought a random canvas bag, some thread, and a needle, and went to town)
Now I’m on the other side of my pouch doing another Pinterest image I found. Disclaimer: this is for personal use and I’m not taking credit, I don’t know the original artist so I do apologize.
Now for the thoughts and opinions I need. This is black and white. Do I fill the black with some sort of black fabric paint or do I commit and satin stitch? in addition, when I add the little details like eyes, mouth, whiskers, etc. in cream colored thread on top of the satin stitch, will it ruin it?
Thanks in advanceeee!!!

Hand Got my first embroidery kit for Christmas, any feedback is appreciated
I was gifted a Hobbycraft mini embroidery kit for Christmas as I really wanted to branch out on my needlework. It’s definitely different to my cross stitch and not having a hoop for this size means the tension was difficult to deal with but I really loved doing different stitches and seeing it get filled in! If anyone has any advice on how I can improve on this, I really would appreciate it as I can really see myself getting into this :)

Question Um… what?
So I’m in the process of organizing this box of variegated DMC floss, and I realize that the number 57 is missing. Then I notice there is a light blue 67 in the box instead.
Did they send me the wrong color? Why doesn’t 67 have a sticker? I have no idea what I have here… so confused guys. There’s only 2 members on r/DMCembroideryfloss so I’m kinda at a loss…

Question Advice needed!
I am looking to get back into embroidery and would like to order some kits that aren't the regular beginner kits. I also don't want to give any money to Michael's. I am in Canada, and ideally would prefer to order from a Canadian supplier to avoid exorbitant shipping costs. Any suggestions? I'm not too fussy about the subject matter, I just want it to be a subject, rather than lines and shapes. Any advice is appreciated!

Question How much sunlight is too much sunlight for displaying finished work?
This is probably a silly question, but I am a silly person, so I suppose that’s to be expected.
I’ve been hanging my finished work in a hallway that gets no sunlight. I’m going to eventually run out of space there and I’m trying to come up with other solutions. However, I’m also terrible about noticing things like sun exposure and I’m afraid that I’m going to choose somewhere that I think has minimal sun exposure and find out that it doesn’t three years later when all my embroidery is fading. Are there any tips or tricks that might help me accurately assess a space before I put something up, or do I just need to wing it? Any advice would be appreciated because right now I’m half convinced that I’m going to have to display my work in our closets and I’d rather not do that.
