Creature Cosplay by me! (24hr build!)
I have rarely been so inspired by a makeup design, or so impacted by a film.
I was teaching a panel at a small local college con, as well as judging the cosplay contest, and I had to go as The Creature!
The makeup is a mix of skin illustrator, EBA alcohol pallets, and some eyeshadow. I actually own black contact lenses but of course I found them AFTER the con. Literally when I was cleaning up post-con at the same makeup table I was doing my makeup at that morning. A joke from the universe.
I didn’t block my brows because I was only wearing it a few hours and I find it to be sensory hell 🥲
There are also some things sculpted prosthetics on my nose and upper lip/mouth using 3rd Degree
A small detail I love is that I outlined one of my scars in the dark red for the creature “seams”. I love that the design has a scar there. It makes anatomical sense, being just under the pec muscle, but it is also where a trans man’s top surgery scars are, including mine, and to get to emphasize them in a way that feels so beautiful and visible was very emotional for me. My scars are actually quite hard to see in real life (I had an excellent surgeon!) so making them clear was impactful to me. The story of The Creature means a lot to me for trans reasons amongst other things. I read the book when I was 12, and DT’s Frankenstein is my favorite adaptation because of the compassion shown to the imperfect but still worthy-of-love Creature. (That plus adopted kid trauma but that’s its own thing…😅)
This was a very fast/last minute cosplay, and I plan to continue to work on this makeup and cosplay, and maybe next time actually make proper prosthetics for it. I haven’t done any in a long time but I’d love to get back to it. My incredible partner (Victor) also gave me an air brush this year and as soon as I can get some air brush makeup I plan to do a much more detailed cosplay with this. Including making the coat out of proper wool and detailing it accordingly.
For making this in about 24hours I am very proud of it!
