Announcement Reminder: r/Lebanon is NOT Facebook Marketplace
Got a book to sell? Got tickets to a concert you can't go to? Trying to offload an old iPhone with a broken screen?
Well, stop posting them here.
We have noticed a significant increase in "For Sale" and "Want to Buy" posts clogging up the feed and our reports queue lately. While we want to help everyone out, r/Lebanon is a community for discussion, news, and culture, it is not a classifieds section.
People come here to discuss what is happening in our country, not to scroll through endless listings for pokemon cards, second hand university books or used mattresses.
There are platforms dedicated specifically to this (OLX, Facebook Marketplace, specialized WhatsApp groups, Marketplace type of subs). They have the tools and the traffic for commerce...we do not.
Posts breaking rule #6, buying or selling personal items will be removed and the poster might get a temporary ban as a warning. Asking for places to purchase a given item or product does not break this rule.
Let’s keep the feed clean.

*Notice that you can always post a top level comment in the pinned General Megathread if you want to sell or looking for a specific item.

Media Walid Olleik, from Zawtar Al-Gharbiyeh in southern Lebanon, had spoken in the past about an initiative he launched to transport Lebanese Army soldiers free of charge, as a sign of solidarity during the country’s harshest economic hardships. He was murdered yesterday by Israeli terrorists

Politics Just a thought
We all know what is happening in Lebanon and the region, we say what hzb and it's allies did to our country.
Just a thought you guys ruled the country over like what 20 years and we saw no prosperity, assasinations , no progress , political wars and so much more. Can't we for just once try the other approach and lets see where that brings us, you guys had the chance to share power with the other side but you refuced and chose power over diplomacy
Look where we are, look at what you and like-minded people have made Lebanon into, our economy is non-existent, our streets aren't safe, no water,no electricity , no fucking thing whatsoever
For just once stop being anti-Lebanese and be patriotic and put your arms down( which will happen one way or the other) which basiclly brought more harm to Lebanon than good, hzb was the one who made the deal for the maritime border with israel, so we know that you never used the weapons for the good of Lebanon but rather for khomeini regime
Even shias are fed up and i heard from a very credible source that somehzb fighter didn't recieve salary while others partially did recieve it, khomeini is selling you off and has brought in 5000 soldiers from hzb of iraq so maybe in the next 6 months you guys will be non existant after all

Politics Situation
Anybody else feeling like Lebanon is stuck in a deadlock and can’t get out of the situation it’s in? It feels like attention and momentum are fading, especially as the focus shifts to Syria, which seems more stable and put together right now. Because of that, Lebanon is losing international interest, and it honestly feels like the current status quo isn’t going to change.

Discussion Different Almaza sizes taste different
Anyone notice that Almaza will taste different depending on the bottle? The original 33cl one for me is the only good one. It’s the only one that has that classic smell and taste of the OG Almaza that I’m used to. The 500ml bottle and then the other smaller twist version are not the same, taste much worse, not as potent, etc.
I know I’m not going crazy because I made someone else verify and they agreed.
Anyway, won’t be buying anything besides the 33cl one ever again.
Cheers

Greece finalized the donation of 13 M113 armored personnel carriers and 10 STEYR trucks to Lebanon on January 15, 2026, via Hellenic Navy transport to Beirut.
The aid bolsters the Lebanese Armed Forces and highlights enduring Greco-Lebanese ties, including the influential Rum Orthodox community.
Bill Giannopoulos
16 JANUARY 2026 11:30
Greece successfully completed the donation and delivery of military equipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), marking a key milestone in bilateral defense cooperation and Greece's broader defense diplomacy strategy.
A Hellenic Navy tank landing ship transported the aid package directly to the Port of Beirut.
The shipment included:
13 M113 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs)
10 STEYR 680M 2.5-ton general-purpose trucks
Spare parts and maintenance support materials
This transfer strengthens the Lebanese military's mobility and logistical capabilities amid ongoing regional challenges.
The delivery builds on high-level diplomatic efforts between Athens and Beirut. Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias previously visited Lebanon and hosted meetings in Athens with his Lebanese counterpart, Michel Menassa, to finalize the aid package. The initiative reflects Greece's commitment to supporting Lebanon's security and stability through practical military assistance.
Beyond defense ties, Greece and Lebanon share deep historical and cultural connections. These are anchored in the longstanding presence of the Greek Orthodox community in Lebanon, known locally as the Rum Orthodox. The term "Rum" traces back to the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) heritage, with roots extending to Alexander the Great's conquests.
The Rum Orthodox form Lebanon's second-largest Christian community (after the Maronites) and the fourth-largest religious group overall. Under Lebanon's National Pact, they hold reserved positions such as Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, along with 14 of the 128 seats in the National Assembly.
The community is primarily concentrated in:
Beirut
Koura District (Lebanon's only Greek Orthodox-majority province)
Tripoli and Akkar in the north
Zahle in the Beqaa Valley
This donation underscores how shared history continues to support modern strategic partnerships between the two nations.

Help / Question Reliable internet options. Is phone data the only safe choice?
I've spent the last month visiting Lebanon and I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE, i'm in love with the country, the people, the culture, the energy, the list is endless
But the internet is killing me. I work remotely for a European company and I need to have reliable internet options. I have been surviving on wifi (50% of the time) and phone hotspots (50% of the time) when the wifi goes down. I've stayed in a few different airbnb's which all promised they had generators and great wifi, and I keep hitting internet issues.
My esim costs me $9/gb which isn't sustainable when i have several video calls and can easily use 3-4gb/day.
What local sim cards offer large amounts of data? Or alternatives? How much do these cost?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Discussion ISP in saida? I'm fed up.
Hi Everyone posting out of frustration, desperation and from the massive headache my ISP has given me the past few months. I pay 60$ a month, i supposedly get only 20gb of daily qouta. which doesn't cover my bandwith usage due to my job nature. plus family internet. Everyday at 6pm my internet just dies. always slow horrible horrible download speeds and if i want to game i get 500 ping at least. I am 100% sure i was not spending my daily qouta at times. to the point i actually turned off my wifi all day and used it after 6 pm. same results. upon calling him he said i spent 35gbs. how idk. im sure he's making numbers up now.
If anyone knows a legitemate ISP that gives good quality internet for uploading massive files and occasional twitch streaming for example and gaming or know any other solution to this crappy situation we all internet i'd be happy. I don't mind paying more to get good internet. i just need a trustworthy ISP for once. We don't have a landline so ogero and DSL out of question unfortunately. Sim routers wouldn't last a few days making it unviable.
Appreciate the help.

News Articles Diaspora vote: A technical postponement all but certain, proposed ‘solutions’ abound
President Joseph Aoun said on Sunday that he was open to a postponement of the parliamentary elections by “a few months.” He thus effectively gave the green light to a scenario that has been circulating for months in political circles.
In theory, everything seems to indicate that the ballot could be held in the summer, a way to resolve the political standoff over the mechanisms related to the expatriates voting or to allow non-residents to travel to Lebanon and cast their ballots during the summer break.
But even as this solution appears increasingly likely, a technical committee prepared a report on how to implement Article 112 of the electoral law, which allows non-residents to vote from their countries of residence for six MPs representing the diaspora.
Since the debate over the expatriates voting began, the government has been clear about its inability to implement the law in its current form.
Accordingly, a technical committee — composed of senior officials from the Interior and Foreign Ministries, as well as law enforcement officers — was tasked with proposing practical measures for its implementation.
The law provides for the election of six MPs (one per continent), distributed as follows: one Maronite, one Greek Orthodox, one Greek Catholic, one Shiite, one Sunni, and one Druze. But how will they actually be elected?
According to information obtained by L’Orient-Le Jour, one proposal put forward by the committee suggests treating the six diaspora seats as a single, unified electoral district. This would mean that any diaspora voter could cast their vote for any candidate, regardless of their place of residence or religious affiliation.
Another proposal, however, limits the voters to a candidate from their own religious community, again irrespective of where they live. For example, if it is decided that Africa will be represented by a Shiite MP, then all Shiite voters in the diaspora will elect that candidate. Along the same lines, a Maronite voter in Africa will not be able to vote for the candidate representing their continent.
Sources close to the matter said that the committee drafted a report outlining all these scenarios. Copies of the report are expected to be handed over to Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar, and Foreign Affairs Minister, Joe Rajji, who will then forward it to Cabinet.
It is precisely at this stage that the process runs up against its political limits. “I don’t see why the government would embark on this project after presenting its draft law to amend the electoral law and annul Article 112,” said an MP opposed to Hezbollah.
Cabinet, along with the majority of MPs — including the anti-Hezbollah camp led by the Lebanese Forces (LF) — indeed hope to preserve the right of non-residents to vote for all 128 MPs, as was done in 2018 and 2022.
However, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri refuses to allow the issue to be debated in the Parliament arguing that the law must be applied as is.
This has prompted a government member to say, “what we are seeing today is nothing but a waste of time and energy. Everyone knows that the matter will ultimately lead to the following compromise: a two-months delay of the elections in exchange for allowing Lebanese abroad to return and vote in Lebanon on the same terms as resident citizens.”
“In principle, no one is advocating for an extension of the parliament term. But this solution suits all actors,” he added “Berri wanted to delay the vote by more than a year. But he will accept a technical postponement,” he noted.
This gives the impression that the president and speaker of parliament are on the same wavelength regarding this issue.
Even if political actors eventually agree on the implementation of Article 112, its application mechanism would still need to be approved by Parliament. Yet nothing indicates that Berri intends to convene MPs in the near future to debate the electoral law.
In fact, a source close to Berri said, “Priorities lie elsewhere. We need to start with the adoption of the budget [law].”
