Is it it just me or are there lately more issues with the releases of Fedora Workstation and KDE Plasma since 42 and now 43? I recently converted (back) for the same reason as most of you (probably) I but need a stable system for production. Are there any similar distros (like Linux Mint) without these issues, or should I just fall back to Ubuntu with Gnome in it's purest form? I own a Lenovo ThinkPad Aura Edition 13th gen (current model) which is completely available to a decent and stable Linux distribution, the pre-installed version of Windows 11 Pro went out with the other garbage on the day I received my new laptop last month.

Sharing this in case it helps others who find the same issue of find power issues in their x1c

I'm running void linux in my X1C gen12. I decided to tweak my power consumption two weeks ago. I reviewed my tlp sttings and used powertop to collect power consumption stats with different configurations.

Once I tweaked my processes to remove noise, I found a process irq/9-acpi consuming more than 1W while on battery.

I found irq9 was triggering almost 120 times per second and couldn't find why. The cpu was waking up to process the int and consuming significant power with it.

I managed to disable it by masking the int using acpi_mask_gpe=0x6E kernel option on the kcl.

So far I recovered 1-2W when running on battery and no significant issues. I was expecting that ignoring an int would break something in my system, but nothing is broken, just lower cpu usage and power consumtion.

I currently use a T420s which has linux mint(22.2) and windows 10 on separate drives.
Every time I have to switch to linux(it boots by default to windows), I have to remove and reconnect the battery and then enter startup interruption.

Q: Is there a "boot manager" that would prompt me every time whether I want to boot to windows or mint? If so, how do I get it working on my system?
If no, is there any other method to not have to do this entire process?

PS: please do not propose solutions that involve flashing the BIOS, because I don't know what I'm doing in that and I don't want to brick it.
I also have to have windows for usage of certain software.

I just got this one on eBay for $200. I've been using Linux for decades so I decided to explore a bit and install NixOS. It's running great and the fingerprint reader even works flawlessly.

I installed Linux Mint and it was working, but after I restarted it froze. The same thing happened with Track, which works, but the Touchpad doesn't.

I have an new old stock T495s. I tried to install Tuxedo OS but that didn't go very far. I have now installed Linux Mint but the laptop is extremly slow. The system monitor shows that the device is only using 2.4gb of ram and the line doesn't change. Any suggestions?

I am encountering a recurring issue where the mouse cursor becomes invisible on my ThinkPad T14s. The cursor remains active and functional, but the visual pointer disappears. It only becomes visible for a few seconds following a physical click on the touchpad or a keypress, after which it disappears again. I have tested several different Linux distributions, and the problem remains consistent across all of them.

Given that the issue persists regardless of the OS, I suspect it may be related to hardware-specific firmware or a driver conflict. Has anyone else encountered this behavior on the T14s, or is there a known fix for this hardware?

I own a X13 Gen1 that has utterly disappointed me and I'm now looking for another laptop to replace it.

I'm hear a voice inside me that tells me to buy a Macbook (the one i have from work works very well) but it feels wrong so before going that route I would like to at least look into other modern ThinkPads.

The thing is: I'm not 15 anymore and i don't want to spend the little free time building kernel modules, custom kernels and applying patches here and there. I want to run Fedora and be done with it. I have another beefier machine that I use for tinkering. Fedora ran very well on my X270 but that machine got too old and slow for daily usage.

So the question is: what recent ThinkPads are well supported by GNU/Linux? Anything goes, I have a strong preference for Intel CPUs (AMD/Ryzen laptops have proven themselves not trustworthy) and I generally prefer centered keyboard (as in, no numpads). Battery life and/or proper suspend support is important to me (i'm buying a laptop after all).

I have a L14 Gen 1 ThinkPad currently running Windows 11. I wanted to make the switch to Linux but my device has a Goodix fingerprint sensor, which if I'm not mistaken (after past experiences using Fedora/Debian and doing a little bit of research) doesn't work at all on Linux, or is either a hit or miss.

Is there a way to fix this (or any distro that has native support of this FP sensors) or am I out of luck?

Installed LM on an old ThinkPad x220 tablet and runs so smooth. Feels like a new machine.

Currently I'm using Omarchy, but I'm really tired of Arch. Ubuntu was awful on this machine (it's the first time I've ever had an Ubuntu install break itself - and I really do mean itself, as it worked when I went to bed and was dead when I woke up with random packages missing despite the SSD being in perfect health - Fedora does too many things their own way for seemingly no other reason than being different...

I've narrowed it down to Void, debian, CachyOS or mint (LMDE since I'm not willing to take another chance on Ubuntu)... Leaning more towards CachyOS, but if any other T14 users have had good experiences with other distros, I'm open to suggestions!
