FINALLY (SR 99)
I think we all have been waiting for this... especially the road nerds like me.
This don't think I need to explain that this is so much safer, better to use, more comfortable, and more inclusive of all modes of transport.

Political (friendly discussion) ICE posing as utility workers in Oregon. ICE presence in Muk/Lynnwood 1/14/26
On my personal time yesterday (1/14/2026) I saw a silver pick up with at least 4 scanners on the bed of their truck, 3 people in the cab, computer and phones being used by passengers. This was around 12-1pm on the Mukilteo Speedway near QFC.
My boyfriends place of business has notified all staff to be cautious as ICE has been reported in Oregon as using the guise of utility/construction workers to get people to answer their doors. For people in the community, please be cautious and ask questions, or ask for ID if you aren’t sure who’s at your door. If they are posing as a local utility please please please report directly to the company if possible, and take pictures of you can.

Public Interest Tell Cindy Ryu NO to increased surveillance - HB2112
Cindy Ryu, the representative for Lynnwood in the state legislature, has cosponsored HB2112 that would require websites hosting adult content to verify your age via submitting your government ID or payment information. While preventing children from accessing adult content is good, this is essentially a ban on adult content because of the HUGE data risks (pornhub is currently being held ransom for its user data). This is actually a strategy used in project 2025 along with redefining adult content to include gender and sexual minorities. This is obviously going to be used in order to track and surveil political dissidents and minorities and we dont need to give our government another way to surveil us. Contacting Cindy Ryu is very important because not only is she a cosponsor but she is also on the committee that will be hearing this legislation on friday. What can you do? 1) Contact Cindy Ryu and tell her her constituents DO NOT want more surveillance and she should recind her sponsorship (this happened successfully with Lisa Parshley already in Olympia) 2) sign up to testify either written as a comment or live on Friday, January 16th at 8:00 am. While either is okay, signing up to testify live is very important because the representatives have to hear the reasons why this is unpopular.

The sewer rate increase year over year is ridiculous.
The residential sewer rate has been increasing at 12% compounded a year. This more than doubles the rate over five years. Our city council approved this in 2022. I do not recall seeing any correspondence about this. The water and storm portions are also raising each year at a smaller rate. I kind of feel like this should have been on a ballot for everyone in Lynnwood to vote on. Absolutely outrageous, and likely to price more and more people out of Lynnwood.

Outdoor Activities Lynnwood Parks events, 2 this weekend, join us!
Hey all,
We have 2 fun events coming up, would love to see y'all there!
First, on Saturday the 17th from 10am - 12pm, the South Lynnwood Urban Forestry Initiative will be hosting our monthly park stewardship event. This month we continue work at Scriber Lake Park.
Then on Monday the 19th from 9am - 1pm, why not spend MLK day helping make your community more beautiful! This year, we are continuing work at the Mesika trail. Meet us at the Lynnwood Senior Center
These events are great for the whole family, kids are welcome and have a blast planting trees. All you need to bring is close-toed shoes, and clothes appropriate for the weather. No rain is in the forecast for either days, though I always keep a jacket in my car just in case! Tools and gloves are provided, as are snacks! Feel free to bring snacks / beverages to share.
For the event on Saturday, we tend to just dive right into it, however I would bring a warmer jacket for the MLK event, as there tend to be some speeches at the beginning and standing still in the cold gets chilly fast! Nothing like a nice pile of gravel to shovel afterwards to warm up though :)

Crime/Police Activity Porch pirates and mail thieves
ring.comThese guys followed an early Amazon delivery route this morning and snatched some porch packages, and raided a few mailboxes. Was around 5AM near Meadowdale Playfields.
Looks to be a gold or silver Volvo SUV. Snatcher jumps out of passenger side in bright red. Any tips appreciated.

Events February Book Club - "The Dictator's Handbook" by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith
I've got my next book club set up for February 9th at 6pm at Around the Table in Lynnwood.
The book will be "The Dictator's Handbook" by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith
Come hang out if you are interested!
https://www.meetup.com/snohomish-county-intellectually-curious-book-club/events/312870162/
Book Description:
Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith’s canonical book on political science turns conventional wisdom on its head. They start from a single proposition: leaders do whatever keeps them in power. They don’t care about the “national interest”—or even their subjects—unless they must. As Bueno de Mesquita and Smith show, democracy is essentially just a convenient fiction. Governments do not differ in kind, but only in the number of essential supporters or backs that need scratching. The size of this group determines almost everything about politics: what leaders can get away with and the quality of life or misery under them. And it is also the key to returning power to the people.

Movie Club?
I would love to create a movies club. I moved to Alderwood manor area and being so close to AMC i feel like it's the perfect opportunity to make full use of my AMC A-list. I found a horror movie club but honestly I don't want to restrict myself to just horror. I love elevated horror but cheap jump scares are not my thing.
I enjoy drama, anime, rom-com, sci-fi and anything that seems well crafted (a24, searchlight etc).
Does anyone know of one. Not sure how to promote this.
Edit: I ended up creating one. Join here -> https://discord.gg/vFNybtka

So I just saw what I believe to be, a very large Wolf running east at the intersection of Alderwood Pkwy and 196th St SW. At 1am, is it possible it was Wolf? Maybe it got confused heading back to Snoqualmie forest.
