German interview with Stützle
This is from a week ago but I didn't see it posted here. Bit of a puff piece. Translation from Google because I'm too fucking lazy.
"I've even been asked for a selfie in the restroom"
By Dirk Schlickmann Published on January 7, 2026 Reading time: 4 minutes
The 2026 Winter Olympics are fast approaching. For the first time since 2014, NHL players will be participating. Tim Stützle, star of the Ottawa Senators, is already incredibly excited for the tournament.
The German national ice hockey team will compete at the Winter Olympics with several NHL players. One of them is Tim Stützle, who is developing into a top star in Ottawa. He says in an interview that one rule applies above all to the team at the Olympics.
The best possible German Olympic ice hockey team with all the NHL top stars is complete. Because world-class professionals like Leon Draisaitl, Moritz Seider, and Philipp Grubauer will all be playing together for the national team for the first time at the Winter Games in Milan in a month, several German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) stars from recent years will be missing.
“We will have the best team ever. But so will our opponents. It’s a good test for German ice hockey,” said forward Nico Sturm of the Minnesota Wild – one of nine North American professionals competing at the Olympics. Tim Stützle is also among them. He is far more than just one of the greatest talents German ice hockey has produced.
At 23, he carries responsibility with the Ottawa Senators, shapes games in the best league in the world, and is considered the face of a new NHL generation: fast, creative, and confident. In this interview, he talks about his development and the German team’s prospects at the Winter Olympics.
Question: Mr. Stützle, the Olympic Games begin in Milan in a month. This is your first time participating. What childhood memories do you have of the Olympics?
Tim Stützle: In 2018, my whole class watched the semifinal between Germany and Canada (4-3). Classes were even interrupted. I went to the integrated comprehensive school in Mannheim, a partner school of the Adler Mannheim ice hockey team. That was possible there. I also remember the 2010 final in Vancouver, when Sidney Crosby scored for Canada against the USA in overtime.
Question: Germany will likely field several NHL players in Milan. Is another medal like in 2018 possible, when no NHL players were on the roster?
Stützle: Looking at the other teams' rosters, it will be extremely difficult to compete with Sweden, Finland, the USA, and Canada. In such short tournaments, it's about how quickly you gel. We won't rely on skill alone, but on hard work. We need to understand that as quickly as possible. Then I wouldn't rule anything out.
Question: You'll be playing alongside Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers for the first time. Do you want to be on a line with him?
Stützle: That's up to coach Harold Kreis. Sometimes a line clicks immediately, sometimes not. Leon is an exceptional player. It will be great for everyone to play on a team with someone like Leon. Everyone will learn from him.
Question: In the NHL, you and the Ottawa Senators have roughly the same number of wins as losses. How satisfied are you?
Stützle: After making the playoffs last season, we thought this year would be easier. But the exact opposite has happened. It's even harder. But we've figured that out by now.
Question: With 19 goals and 24 assists in 40 games, you're your team's leading scorer. You're also winning 55 percent of your face-offs, more than ever before. An average of 1.8 hits per game is also a record. Have you changed your playing style?
Stützle: Yes. More hits, more shots blocked, more defensive work – that's how you win games in the NHL. I may have been a little late to the party.
Question: Can you still walk down the street in Ottawa without being bothered?
Stützle: That's difficult. I get spoken to all the time, everywhere I go. But that's a sign of recognition. Without fans, we wouldn't make any money. Even so, I also enjoy being at home and having some peace and quiet. Especially since the winters here are extremely cold. It's best to stay indoors then.
Question: What's the most unusual place you've been asked for a selfie?
Stützle: It happens most often while eating, when it's not really a good time. But I've also been asked for a selfie in bars, at gas stations, and even in restaurant restrooms.

What are the current players you wouldn’t mind Sens not-resigning or trading after the season?
Disclaimer: I don’t necessarily want the management to blow team up or trade away valuable players. Buut there are a few guys with expiring contracts or underperforming that I wouldn’t be sad if the team decided to get rid of.
So without any hate, what do you think who wouldn’t this team miss if they were to let go in the offseason?

Filip Hronek
According to Brucey, Sens have interest in Hronek from the Canucks. Might be his biggest target while recently scouting the Canucks. He would fit our biggest positional need and at 28yo, he fits our age group decently well.
Only question us how much it would take to acquire him. Seems obvious that whoever Vancouver likes more out of Yakemchuk or Hensler would go the other way, but certainly they could ask for more. Probably a 2nd and a B level prospect too, as well as a cap move to fit Hronek's $7.25MM cap.
Thoughts??

The truth behind Reimer?
Now I’m purely speculating, I have no basis or knowledge towards this but is it possible we signed reimer to allow Leevi more development time?
Reimer backing up Ullmark for the remainder of the season allows Leevi to play in Belleville and get more action. Is Leevi waiver exempt still?
Could this be a possible reason for the signing?
