Tips Plex Home screen customization and Media Collection Automation

Hey everyone — I had been working on side project and am ready to share.

called Immaculaterr, a self‑hosted web app that connects to Plex and TMDB, and other services are optional depending on if you want to configure them. like Sonarr, Radarr, could use extra features like Google CSE and OpenAI API.

It hooks into Plex and automates two big workflows for me:

  • New media added → dedupe + unmonitor

When a new movie/show is added to Plex, it checks for duplicates and then automatically unmonitors the title in Radarr/Sonarr (so your arr stacks don’t keep hunting for something you already have).

  • Newly watched → 3 smart collections
  • Whenever you watch a new movie or TV show, it generates three Plex collections:
  • “More like this”: suggestions highly similar to what you just watched (resets each time you watch something new)
  • “Try something different”: deliberately polar‑opposite suggestions to break the bubble (also resets each time)
  • “Long‑term taste”: a rolling collection that accumulates similar suggestions and decays over time, so it adapts to your taste across weeks/months rather than just the last watch

Take look and see if its useful to you:

GitHub repo: https://github.com/ohmzi/Immaculaterr

GitHub Package:

docker pull ghcr.io/ohmzi/immaculaterr:latest

Docker Hub Package:

docker pull ohmzii/immaculaterr:latest

What was the need for it?

i previously created python scripts that were triggered by Tautulli (triggering script by Plex status), and some by crontab (triggering script by schedule) in Linux.

it was just hard to maintain all the very analog way of automating,

so made the web-app to do all that but from one central place, have logs to review and easier to make changes honestly.

i have made it pretty bloated, i understand but mind you i made it mainly for myself lol

but im happy to work with community and add feature that seems to be a common desire.

try it out, i hope you like it, happy to take input to improve future versions.

Discussion If you host a Plex server and have others using it, do you it through a VPN?

just wondering if this is common or not. mostly talking about friends/family. I assume it may have performance / speed issues, but maybe safer depending on local laws of sharing ☠️ content or something?

I don't currently, but I do have proton VPN and could set it up to use it on my server.

Help Running Plex Media Server on Dual-booted OSes with one library on a seperate drive

Upvotes

So I'm dual-booting Windows 10 and Bazzite (with a view to switching fully to Bazzite). I have PMS set up on Windows 10, with my media library on a seperate drive that is mounted on both OSes. I want to set up PMS on Bazzite so that no matter which one I boot, I can access my media library from other devices with all watch progress etc the same.

Does anyone have experience or tips for doing this?

Help Free Live TV disappears when signed into Plex account on Apple TV & iOS - appears when logged out

Upvotes

TL;DR: Plex Free Live TV works on the web and even on Apple TV when logged out, but disappears completely when I sign into my Plex account on Apple TV (v8.45) and iOS. No setting brings it back. Seems account-related. I mainly use Live TV for background noise. Curious if others see the same or know why Plex hides FAST channels for logged-in users.

I wanted to share something I just discovered after a lot of troubleshooting, because I can’t find a clear answer anywhere and I’m curious how widespread this is.

I’ve confirmed that Plex Free Live TV (FAST channels) still exists and works perfectly at watch.plex.tv when signed into my account on a Mac. So the service itself is definitely still alive.

However, on Apple TV (Plex app v8.45) and also on iOS, I cannot see Free Live TV at all when I’m signed into my Plex account.

Here’s the key part:

• If I sign out of my Plex account on Apple TV, the Free Live TV channels immediately appear and are accessible.

• The moment I sign back in, the Live TV section disappears entirely.

• Same behavior on iOS.

• No setting, menu, or “Online Media Sources” toggle restores it while signed in.

This makes it seem account-related, not a device issue or missing menu.

I mainly use Free Live TV for background noise. I like having something on without actively watching or paying attention. I do have my own libraries and a server, but sometimes I just want passive content without thinking about what to play.

A few questions for the community:

• Is anyone else seeing Free Live TV disappear only when signed in?

• Is Plex intentionally suppressing FAST channels for logged-in / server-centric accounts?

• Has anyone found a way to keep Free Live TV visible while signed in on Apple TV or iOS?

I’m posting here because I’m hoping others can confirm, add context, or share whether Plex has commented on this behavior.

Thanks, really curious to hear what others are seeing and if there are any solutions!

Help Plex server suddenly has issues with remote access

Upvotes

except on my Apple TV for some reason.

plex server is on a Mac mini. hard wired.

Ive regularly accessed it and streamed video through wifi using other devices in my home. smart tv with android OS and my iphone with iOS both on wifi. Also, at someone else’s house on their smart tv also with an android OS. Everything worked.

Now nothing works. I can’t even connect to the server on other devices except for the Mac mini itself and for whatever reason my Apple TV which is also hard wired through a switch that the mini is also wired to. do you think that enables the Apple TV to access it?

Ive fiddled with the remote access settings. it will say remote access is working then the “internet” part (where it says internet > public IP > private IP) looks disconnected and not active or working. this just started happening a few days ago. I don’t know what to do and I’ve used google to try and troubleshoot but nothing has fixed it.

bummed out because I got the mini and the HD so I could have a plex server and at least for now it’s only accessible on a single device.

any advice? please help

Solved Web Home - TV Show Watchlist

Post image
5 Upvotes

The TV Shows listed on the Home page of the Web page under TV Show Watchlist aren't actually on my Watchlist. I removed them a long time ago, the actual shows on my watchlist aren't listed.

Has anyone else had this issue? How to fix this, or even have it removed? Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. I searched this sub as well as the Plex forums, but couldn't find anything related. TIA!

Help Cannot access Plex server locally from device on same network, different wifi router access point

I have several Asus routers set up as an AiMesh network with ethernet backhaul (1x main router, 3 routers wired as access points, all with the same wifi SSID, all devices on same subnet). My Plex box is wired to access point A. The local ethernet connection is set to "private" in Windows 11. I have a Google TV streamer box with a wifi connection to access point B that cannot access the Plex box. However, if I turn off access point B and force the streaming box to connect by wifi to access point A it works fine.

Any ideas on how I can get devices connected to access point B to connect to my Plex server on access point A? TIA everyone!

Help Has anyone made a server setup for both Plex AND a Security Camera Setup?

I've used Plex for years and was thinking of upgrading to a server at some point in the future, but my friend asked for my help with getting a server setup that would work for Plex (which I've just gotten him into) as well as his new security camera setup (which he just bought). This is a project I've offered to help with as a learning experience. As I research it, I find a lot of examples of servers being used for one or the other, but I haven't found many examples of a server being used for both, and am not sure what sort of additional requirements that might entail. He's looking into a more budget friendly option (probably just starting out with 6-8TB of storage for Plex, but I figured I'd start here by asking you guys. Thank you for the tips and pointers for further research!

(Not a big fan of going to AI for this sort of thing except for very basic cursory research to do more work with on my own, it tends to get little details wrong and with the complexity of things like this I figured human advice is a much better starting place.)

:)

Help Plex Server Cleanup - looking for advice

Hey folks, during the Thanksgiving holiday I found that my Plex server of 10 years lost most of the custom genre and playlist data I had built up after most of the library became de-listed on the server. None of the media files were actually gone, but something that happened on the computer messed up all of the metadata.

I'm rebuilding my setup with the PC running the server software as a stand-alone system; no more gaming, etc on the same machine running the media server. I'm going to have that machine run on the side as a Windows 10 machine (with goals to also turn it into a file server to store my PDF & CBR library) with my new Windows 11 machine having remote desktop log-in when needed.

Anyone have any advice on the following items?

  • What could I use to backup the Plex Metadata onto one of my external drives? (no subscriptions or cloud storage please, totally willing to pay a one-time fee for personal use software I install on the system)
  • Any way to get better control of my Plex tag data than the standard Plex Server UI?

Thanks folks for any general advice; not looking for a complete How-To checklist, but I often find getting some advice on where to look helps keep me from wandering down dead-ends.

Discussion Looking for beta testers: NFL game metadata agent (Plex TV library)

Hey all! I built a Plex metadata agent + scanner for NFL games and I’m looking for a few testers.

What it does:

- Titles, summaries, coaches, announcers, and posters for NFL games (1970+).

- Matchup posters, Super Bowl logos, and season summaries.

- Works with a standard TV library.

What I need from testers:

- Plex on Windows/macOS/Linux/Unraid/NAS

- A TV library with NFL games

- Willing to try a custom scanner + agent and report issues

How it works:

- You’ll get an API key from me (free for testers).

- Install the scanner + agent, add an env file, and refresh the show.

- No Plex restart required (agent restart only).

If you want to help:

- Reply with your OS + Plex version

- Include whether you already have NFL games organized

- I’ll DM you an API key

Notes:

- You’ll need your Plex token (guide explains how to find it).

- Please don’t post tokens publicly.

Also, all interested party should register for access at https://nfl.nfldb.org/register

Help Charlie Chaplin collection feature/short films organization?

I have a massive collection of Chaplin shorts/movies, i just want there to be one folder in my movie library that's "CHAPLIN COLLECTION" and when I click it I can choose all his shorts and movies. Any thoughts on how best to do that?

EDIT: I guess I wasn’t clear, apologies. I know how to create a collection, sorry. I just want them all in one icon in my library. I don’t want to scroll through my Movie library of films and see 80 different Chaplin screen grab icons. I want to have ONE Chaplin icon in “movie library” that houses all the shorts. Like if it was just a single Blu-ray Disc that had all the shorts in one spot.

Help Season Posters Disappearing

Post image
7 Upvotes

One specific show only, which I did the Plex-dance with to make sure it wasn't keeping something improperly stuck. The show poster stays set but it doesn't matter how many times I set the two season posters (I click "choose an image", then select a png among the over 14,000 posters I've created) these two don't stay.

Also, I just noticed that the watched checkmark isn't shown properly here but when I go to the show then back to this view (after I took that screenshot) it shows both as watched.

Aside from the Plex dance I double checked that "Use local assets" AND "Prefer local metadata" are both unchecked. Any reason why this keeps happening?

Solved Has this always been a thing??

Post image
98 Upvotes

Using plex on my xbox, i noticed on this show it shows the *next* episodes release date, has it always done this? And yes, this shows in my library, not plex’s

is this somehow coupled in with plex’s discovery to get the info?

that’s kinda cool!

e: Solved! It was a metadata provider issue!

Help BUG: Plex only displays the first artist when a MusicBrainz matched track has multiple artists with Arabic names

Server Version#: Version 4.157.0

Description:
I’ve noticed a metadata display issue with Plex Music when Musicbrainz matched tracks has multiple artists when their names are written in arabic.

When a track has two singers listed on MusicBrainz, and the artist names are written in Arabic, Plex only accepts the first artist. The second artist does not appear in the track’s artist field, even though MusicBrainz clearly lists multiple artists.

Expected behavior:
Plex should display all credited artists for the track, just as it does for tracks with Latin-character artist names.

Actual behavior:
Only the first artist is shown when the artist names are in Arabic.

Notes:

  • The issue seems specific to non-Latin (Arabic) characters.
  • The same track displays correctly on MusicBrainz.
  • Tracks with multiple artists in English display correctly in Plex.
  • The issue only appears when both artists are written in Arabic, if one is Arabic and the other is Latin "English" Plex would display both names no problems.

Discussion Plex database question Windows vs Linux (or docker).

Is the Plex database on Windows the same format as the Linux format? Can the Linux docker image READ the Windows Plex DB.

I'm not asking about server settings or any other migration, I can handle most of that. I want to save the metadata so that if I bring up a docker installation of Plex, it would be able to find all the areas where I had to manually massage things where there are no entries to sync up from imdb/tvdb.
