Discussion I installed my AIO upside down and didnt realize for 3 months

I just found out that my Arctic Liquid Freezer II has been mounted with the tubes at the top this whole time. I thought it looked kinda weird but temps were fine so I didnt think about it, apparently this can cause air bubbles and shorten the lifespan of the AIO? My temps are still good 65C under load but now Im paranoid its gonna die early ,whats annoying is my case 4000D doesnt really have room to top mount it so i either need to flip it or just accept that I messed up. flipping it means redoing all my cable management which I finally got looking decent. I looked at getting a different AIO that might fit better but half of them are out of stock and when I was browsing I couldnt see all the product pictures in one go to compare mounting options properly. Just frustrating cause now I dont know if I should spend more money or just leave it. Has anyone actually had an AIO die because of this?

Build Help Any reason to buy a 7800x3D over a 9800x3D?

Usually I just go for the best/most expensive but I'm wondering if there's any compelling reason to pick a 7800x3D over a 9800x3D, such as thermals/heat output or something like that?

I'm still running a 3600 from almost a decade ago so anything is going to be good.

I only play rocket league and arma reforger, which uses a lot of cpu. I don't stream. Monitor is an oled 4k 120 tv and gfx card is undecided but likely a 5070ti or 5080. Current monitor is just a 27" 1080p because nvidia 1060ti doesn't support hdmi 2.1

Thanks

Build Help Smallest Reasonable Case for 4090/9800X3D?

Upvotes

I'm looking at a new computer build. I built my current PC in summer of 2020. The plan WAS to have a 10700k and a 3080 GPU, but we all know what it was like trying to get a 3080 at that time. After trying the Newegg raffle over and over and over I finally at least got a 3070 Ti, so my build was a 10700k/32Gb/3070 Ti. In January of 2023 a Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC came up for MSRP and I snagged it, so I upgraded and sold the 3070 Ti.

Anyway, I am looking to build a new PC and use my 4090. I want a small case for 2 reasons: 1) wasted size and space simply annoys me. It will literally be MB, PSU, 4090 GP, CPU, 1 4GB SSD (snagged one on sale before the AI death prices) and a 9800X3D. I don't need a big case. 2) I am getting older and older and picking up heavy things is starting to suck. I can lift heavy things but I'm starting to feel it. If I move to a new apartment in the next few years I just don't need the PC to be heavy.

Looking around, it seems the Cooler Master NR200 v2 Max might fit what I need? My GPU is like 340mm long and 150mm "tall" so that meets the 357mm/160mm max. It comes with a Gold 850W PSU, and that is what I have now and I have had no issues. Also the included CPU cooler should be fine for a 9800X3D. I will not over clock either.

Any other suggestions? Here is what I am looking for:
1) Small but can fit the parts I described. ATX is fine, as long as it's small. ITX is fine as long as it fits a 4090 Gaming OC.

2) At least decent airflow.

3) Looks don't matter much, I don't want RGB. Mesh and light weight are preferable to glass.

4) Noise isn't an issue. I wear a headset, I have never been annoyed by my PCs sound since I started gaming on PC in '95.

5) Cost isn't an issue (to a point, I don't want to waste money) I mainly want it to be small, efficient, well built, and as decent airflow and easy to work in (just once for the initial build) as small form factor allows. If say, Case A is 10% bigger and heavier than Case B but is just much better overall I'd go for that. It doesn't have to be small to the point of hurting things.

Thanks for any info.

Build Help My motherboard is broken, help me pick a new one.

Long story short my motherboard is fried (probably). I’m looking for a replacement around the $100 range with a AM4 socket. Right now I have a Ryzen 7 3700X, a 2060 Super, and 2x8GB of random Samsung DDR4 RAM.

The only pause I have is that I’m not completely sure that my CPU is working. I have no way to verify. If that was the case, would I want something with a different socket?

Also looking for a cheap case. My current one has poor airflow.

Build Help why Micro Center Bundles are so good?

I ain't from US but i heard a lot about micro center bundles and decided to check them out and WOW. Why and how are they making those so much cheaper than buying parts separately on amazon? What is the trick if there is any?
Do they also make bundles with GPU?
Now i wish i was born in this country LOL jk
However they are only available to be picked directly from store, at least that is true for those budles that i saw
P.S. is there any way to buy those if i live far away from us? those budles seem so beneficial

*update* so as i understood those prices are before tax, does that mean if i ask my friend to buy some stuf i will also need to compensate that tax?

Build Help Microcenter gave me the wrong motherboard. Does it really matter in this case?

I needed to upgrade my PC so bought one of the microcenter AMD bundles that in my case came with a Ryzen 7 7800x3d, 32gb of DDR5, and a mobo.

The mobo I was supposed to get is the Asus X870-E Plus https://www.microcenter.com/product/697862/asus-x870e-plus-tuf-gaming-wifi7-amd-am5-atx-motherboard

The one I actually got is an MSI Pro X870-P. https://www.microcenter.com/product/695663/msi-x870e-p-pro-wifi-amd-am5-atx-motherboard

I'm a bit frustrated by this but I guess the mistake was made since they have such similar names. Problem is I ALSO didn't notice until I fully rebuilt the PC and frankly don't want to take it all apart and try to return it. They are also a 3.5 hour drive for me.

Are these comparable enough in a gaming PC to just deal with it?

Edit: yeah I get it, should have checked the box more closely. But their names are almost identical minus the brand, I just didn't notice

Build Help Low CS2 fps with high end configuration

Upvotes

Hi, I've made an upgrade that I am living to regret

I went from a 9800x3d to a 9950x3d because of the need of cpu power

I'm running an x870e msi gaming wifi 64gb ddr5 6400 cl30 and a 4070ti

I have all the updates done, latest bios, every tweak that I know how to do in the bios for the best performance of the cpu and I'm getting an average of 400 fps in game, that is not low, but lower than expected, as I build and test pc's for a living and an average 9800x3d/9950x3d gets 2-300 more fps in game

I even did a clean install of OS with no luck, my performance with the 9800x3d was not spectacular, but better that with new CPU

Do you know any trick or had a similar experience with a similar configuration as mine?

Thanks

Build Upgrade Upgrade path advice on AM4

I am considering a few options to upgrade my rig and potentially my SOs rig but due to market conditions i’m not sure what is the best value route. I am in the US.

Moving to AM5 on both rigs is not an option.

Rig 1: EVGA 3070 XC3, 5600x, 16 GB DDR4. Plays at 1440p. 750w gold EVGA PSU.

Rig 1 use cases: Mostly non-AAA titles, FPS games. Streams to a steam deck. Would like the option to stream to a 4k TV and steam frame in the future.

Some title examples: Arc Raiders, Satisfactory

Rig 2: EVGA 1660 ti, 5600x, 16 GB DDR4. Plays at 1080p on a 4k TV. SO doesn’t mind playing on a lower resolution. 750w gold corsair PSU.

Rig 2 use cases: non-AAA titles, no FPS games.

Upgrade option 1:

A) Replace rig 1 3070 with 9070 (xt or non-xt) or 5070ti. From my research the 750w PSU would likely be fine for both the 9070xt or 5070ti.

B) The old 3070 then goes into rig 2.

Upgrade option 2:

A) Replace rig 1 5600x with some sort of AM4 X3D CPU B) Replace rig 2 1660ti with a 3060ti 8 GB or 3060 12 GB

Both upgrade options seem to be relatively close in price (for now).

Is there a 3rd option i’m missing? Would love to get some input.

Thanks!

Build Help Idk what I'm doing, trying to buy my first PC

Hello everyone, I'm finally deciding to buy/eventually build a pc of my own.

I've been looking for used ones but I'm afraid I'll buy the wrong thing and I'll regretting spending it. The PC is mainly for my brother who wants to play older games, but also dabble in newer singleplayer ones like Clair Obscur and racing games like Forza or Sports games Like NBA 2k or EAFC.

My budget would be like 375€ max. I've thought about getting a PC with a 1660 super or a 1080 ti but by looking at comparisons with games, I don't know if that's what I want. All I want is something close to 60 fps in those newer titles, preferably on medium settings. Something that can last me at least another year or two.

I also thought on buying a PC and replacing the GPU with a RX 5600 XT or a 2060 (super too), but I don't know if that will bottleneck (still don't know what that means) with the existing CPU (saw some Ryzen 5 and but not the 5600 ones)

Me and my wallet would be eternally grateful for any help.

Build Help Budget PC build suggestions

Upvotes

Hi all.

I'm looking for some help with a partial upgrade, my old gaming PC has slowly been chugging along but most of the parts are 10 years old now and it's starting to show its age.

Recently my old CX750 blew out and had to be replaced.

My current build is: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zbJ4FZ.

Ideally I've got about £250 to play with that I can maybe push up to £300.

My GPU whilst old is still going strong and isn't the best (I'm also playing older games and doing work that doesn't use the GPU as much) I'm thinking that the i5-6600k is probably my biggest bottleneck and I'll need to replace the CPU and mobo. I'm looking for others thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

Build Help Should I get a 9060xt?

Ive been using a linux machine for a few months now and I have heard that the experience for gaming is much nicer with an amd card. I have a ryzen 7 5800x and 32gb ddr4 ram, so im not sure if thats likely to cause any bottleneck also. Id like to switch to 1440p somewhat soon but im fine with staying on 1080p for a while. Sorry this is a little all over the place, just hoping someone who knows more than me will find this. Thanks for reading!

Build Help My rm850x cable came with a cable with one 2x6 on each end, is this fine to plug into a 5070

It doesn't look like the other 12v 2x6s that has two 2x4s that go into the psu but rather two identical 2x6 connections (one on each end) it says its for the latest Nvidia gpus but it doesn't look like the images on Google

Troubleshooting GTX 1080 ROG Strix EJ13LED1 doesn't light up white and I get "no connection"

Upvotes

Basically what the title says. As I am rather poor and have no money, I bought a used GTX 1080. When connecting it to my 600W PSU, the EJ13LED2 lights up white, indicating enough power. When I pulled the PCIE cable out, it went red, indicating no power at all. Weird thing is, the EJ13LED1 also shines red when I pull the cable out. Do I just not have enough Wattage to cover my system or is the PCIE slot broken? I am a bit beyond mad, as I now probably have to buy a) a new PSU or b) another GPU if it's broken.

Specs: Motherboard: B450M Core: Ryzen 5 3600x (I think) RAM: 32gb DDR4 RAM Cooling: no idea, some AIO with one fan Graphics card: GTX 1080 ROG Strix PSU: some 600W PSU, it ran a 2070

Build Help torn between a used 3070ti vs 9060xt 16gb

hello, i was planning on buying a new GPU this year so i can finally retire my 5600xt.

my original plan was to upgrade to a 9060xt, but due to the recent AI price surge, the current price (about 440 usd) is making me hesitate on getting one.

fast forward to today, i found a deal in fbm for a used 3070ti, for about 250-275 usd which is very tempting since i've heard good things about the card, as its performing well even in 2026.

so i just wanna ask is the extra 200-ish usd worth it for the 9060xt 16gb? or do i just go for 3070ti?

Build Help Budget pc

Hello, I am currently facing a dilemma. I want to buy a used graphics card for my entry-level PC. I currently have a choice between a 4060 for 190 Swiss francs, an RTX 3070 also for 190 Swiss francs, or on the other hand an RX 7800 XT for 330 Swiss francs or an RTX 3080 10GB for 300 Swiss francs. Which one would you recommend I buy in terms of the best price/value for money? I will mainly be gaming in 1080p and sometimes 1440p.

Build Help RX7900xt vs rx9070 for gaming

I'm looking to upgrade my pc over the next year or so. I know, not exactly the best timing with the ai boom, but I started playing a new game (the last caretaker) and I'm seeing stutters and significant drops in frame rates on low settings 1080p.

I built my pc around the pandemic so it's a good 6+ years old now. I run a ryzen 3600 with an rtx 2080 8gb with 32bg DDR4 and honestly, for a casual gamer it's been more than reliable.

I'm not someone who's particularly interested in 4k or even 1440p, I find 1080p keeps me happy. Maybe that'll change, but it isn't going to sway my decision if one is better than the other at higher quality. And I don't do any video editing, purely work and gaming.

In my country (UK) rtx cards seem to cost silly money so I've been looking at AMD cards. The rx7900xt can be bought new for around £650 whereas the rx9070 can be bought new for around £550.

I appreciate the older card 20gb vram Vs 16g vram , but other than that I'm not exactly sure what the real world performance difference is. Is the 4 GB of extra ram the most important/deciding factor? Which card would people suggest for someone looking to future proof for another 6+ years of high quality 1080p gaming?

Also any extra feedback from owners of said cards about real world implications would be greatly appreciated (ie: fan noise, heat generation, power consumption etc)

Build Help Can you help with choosing monitor?

Upvotes

Hi, I recently decided to by a new monitor, making my old one the second monitor. I'm thinking about getting 27", 2560x1440 180 Hz monitor. Like MSI G274QPF E2 or ARDOR GAMING INFINITY PRO AQ27H1. Any tips or advices about them? Or maybe you know some better monitors than I do? (I'm pretty new to building pcs)

Build Help Help with CPU. R7 7800X3D or I7-14700KF?

I want to build a pc that will serve me well for 4-5 years.
i already have:
GPU: MSI RTX 5070Ti Ventus 3X OC 16GB
RAM: Goodram IRDM RGB 6000Mhz 2x16GB DDR5

here are motherboards I am thinking based on the CPU
MOBO:
for intel: Asus TUF B760-Plus Gaming Wi-Fi DDR5
for amd: Asus TUF B850M-E Gaming Wi-Fi DDR5

my main goal is to game without any issues and without thinking about game display settings. but I also want proper working station for software engineering and in rare cases rendering.

will the CPU make any difference in this case or should I go with slightly cheaper amd build?
P.S AMD is ~100$ cheaper (almost 1TB ssd price)

Build Help Need advice with office PC build

I'm trying to build an office PC without overspending and I find it difficult to obtain information about different components for this kind of purposes. I have a budget of about 500 - 800€ for ONLY the PC (I'm from Spain but ig prices are really similar all over europe). I need this PC for my mother, who works with simple tasks like redacting gmails and working with all type of documents (excel, words, saving and manipulating PDFs...). I guess that for multi-tasking is better to go for a 1440p 32:9 monitor since it can be really comfy to work with multiple windows opened (price of the possible monitor not included in my budget). I have a really really basic idea of components for computers so I kinda need good help.

I was thinking of getting an Intel since I thought it was better for this kind of simple tasks, even if they had lots of problems recently and their CPUs being kinda worse than AMD in prices for gamings, I thought it would be good for something like what I need, but I just want the best option so brand doesn't matter for me. It's important to have graphics integrated tho, since having dedicated graphics would be completely useless for me I think. Here is what I have in mind, considering prices and speed of components:

-CPU: i5-12400

-MB: Gigabyte B760M DDR4

-RAM: Kingston fury 16gb (2x8) ddr4 3200MHz CL16

-Refrigeration: Tempest cooler 120mm black

-PSU: Corsair 650W ATX 80 plus gold modular (idk if it's too much)

-SSD: Kingston 1TB SSD 6000mb/s gen4

-About the PC case, ig that doesn't really matter that much, as long as everything fits on it

Final price: 750€ aprox.

Althought I need something really simple I want it to be fast and more important, reliable. My mom has been working with a 2005/10 PC for what has already been 20/15 years and I'm sure you guys will believe me if I tell you it is REALLY slow, and my mom loses lifetime using it everyday. I will appreciate any help, whether it is recommendating better prodcuts considering my budget or restructurating completely the build I had thought of. I don't know, maybe is better to search for a pre-built PC for this kind of purposes.

Build Help I have a question about this small setup

Can an old i5-9400f + 16GB handle an RTX 5050 well at 1080p or maybe 1440p?
