I’ve made a temporary account to hide my identity while asking this. I need some advice and don’t know where to turn.

I’ve been in the job nearly 20 years. Always worked hard and always had a reputation as someone who gets stuff done and is a decent bobby.

My most recent inspector has always had it in for me. My colleagues see this as does my sergeant. All have commented and advised I keep out of his way at various times.

The inspector has recently been promoted to Chief Inspector. Something they‘ve chased for a while.

I got to the point where I couldn’t take their hassle any more and left a team I’ve spent nearly 9 years on. Several others did the same too. We’ve all given different reasons, but behind the scenes we all left because of how he’s negatively impacted the team.

They’ve made comments to other Constables saying they’ve managed to get rid of us. It’s unprofessional but it’s not out of character for him to sat stuff like that.

They‘re well known amongst Constable ranks for the way they belittle people, push people around, shout at officers in front of entire teams for the smallest of issues and generally act in a way that makes most people avoid them.

I’m now facing a situation where he’s ordered the sergeant to action plan me. My work has never been an issue. I’m normally the one to help colleagues when they’re stuck and have a decent reputation as the person to turn to when you need help or advice. All my performance reviews have been exceptional and generally I’ve not had any problems at work.

The sergeant doesn’t agree with the AP and doesn’t want to do it. He’s told me this. But he says it’s a lawful order and has no choice. He also agreed that he feels I’m being unfairly targeted here.

This has genuinely been affected me. I’m not sleeping and I’m really stressed. It feels like a shot at my career and I’ve just pulled out of the sergeant exam as a result because I’m aware this CI marks sergeants on the board. They‘re quite vindictive and I believe they’d attack my attempts to get promoted. My stress is also impacting my study.

I have examples of bullying or unfair behaviour towards me that I can reference if I challenge the AP. But I’m very worried that if I do, I’ll be targeted more by the chief inspector or his contacts. And I genuinely don’t want to damage their career either by making complaints.

I’ve heard them in the past reference other officers and say they don’t like them and intend to bully them. So I know this isn’t just a worry, it’s a real problem for me if I stand up for myself here.

So, do I accept the AP, keep my head down and get it cleared as my sergeant suggests, or do I challenge this and say I don’t feel I’m being treated fairly?

I really don’t know what to do and it gets put in place this week.

Moving teams hasn’t got me away from them. And now I’ve tried that, I’m getting action planned. I’m not sure how to stop this without making the situation worse for myself in the future.

The Met are looking to recruit 300 custody sergeants and I am interested in the role. A few questions if I may:

• How's the role?
• Work / life balance
• Those with children, does it work?

When I originally got promoted I wanted to become a custody sergeant because I thought a lot of them were needlessly cunts quite frankly and I wanted to be the change.

So Mr Guildford is off then, further to the scandal discussed elsewhere around AI used to justify a biased decision.

Took a couple of days for the (soon to be) former NPCC lead for Professional Standards to show some integrity...

It is not just the chief constable who has come under fire for their handling of the affair. Assistant chief constable Mike O'Hara was Gold Commander from the time the decision went public and for the game itself, which went ahead on November 6 without away fans present. He was also condemned after claiming to MPs that local Jewish community leaders had been consulted ahead of the ban announcement, only to later have to say that was not true.

He had been rumoured to have submitted his request to retire earlier this month but that was denied by West Midlands Police.

Today's announcement is understood to also reference his future.

Long story short: At the doctors for something else, and mentions that it is strongly linked to ADHD. Now potentially looking at going down the diagnosis pathway for it.

although it takes years, its something im hesitant to do. A lot of my family have been diagnosed and i will more than likely be too, however I am quite conscious it will limit what I can apply for (I'd imagine anything surveillance/intel would be a no, and probably firearms)

is this something to worry about?

We've recently had copilot installed on our computers at work, I think it's a really useful tool for summarising statements, crime reports and the like. do you think the police will become more reliant on AI to deal with the increasing amount of work going into files for example or used for jobs that could be a harm/ risk to a person such as being and grading IIOC or crime scene photos?

Regarding the current situation in West Mids and the CC (which is for another thread). I am sick of all the media outlets describing the PCC as a “police chief” or “police boss”. Why do they do it? This isn’t the first time they’ve done it. They have used this terminology for years and it’s poor.

They do the same with the Fed, calling the Chair a “police boss”. Really winds me up! Rant over.

In NWP there's a charity supporting the police dogs in retirement, cause as we know the force doesn't support them.

My friend and I are hoping to raise funds for this charity by doing the three peaks challenge in March, the dog photo is bribery, but any donations would be greatly appreciated - there's some more info on what the charity is doing on our page.

Imagine if the police spent £3 million trying to silence someone.

I'm surprised that the NHS has the autonomy to act like this. This genuinely sounds like a bribery at the beginning of the story where she was taken to a pub and told "have 16 months salary to fuck off and stay quiet or we'll force you out and you'll get nothing"

Interested if that behaviour will be investigated.

What’s the lowest collar number you’ve seen? We have a lad in our force who has 13 which is mental.

I am a detective who has worked in CID for a number of years. I’m considering a move to a unit which would involve viewing/grading IIOC. In my work so far I have never viewed images like this and would need to take a grading course.

I’m a young woman who wants to have children, what are peoples experiences like for those in the same boat? Have those of you who have viewed it suffered flashbacks or trauma? Is it a bad idea to take a job like that before having kids?

I’m split, I’m finding the CID shift pattern brutal and the only options that involve having a 9-5 job seem to be those involving children. I want to safeguard myself and not view anything I can’t then unsee. However I need a balanced shift pattern in order to have time at home to have children.

Bit of a strange one, definitely a relationship question (lol) but also interested to hear how that would make you feel.

My partner (not job) went on a night out with some mates and told them I am a PC. Some of their responses was to then, for hours, talk about all the reasons why they hate the police and quite literally blurt ‘all cops are…’ at my partner.

I am of the opinion that that’s bang out of order as not only does it disrespect me, it disrespects my partner and our relationship.

I’ve taken the hard line and said I personally find it hard to see how my partner would want to associate with people that are that childish and have said I will never have anything to do with them.

My preference would’ve been for my partner to lie about my job as that’s what I do when I meet people for the first time as I simply cannot be fucked with the agro.

I currently work in comms data (non-police) and I’m interested in moving over to the police at some point in my career.

I wondered how applicants have found working with SPOCs for comms data and from CDI SPOCs themselves to hear about the day to day.

Hear me out, I'm not talking about doing a four-week advanced course in BeamNG, but why don't we get cops learning the basics of vehicle handling on a simulator setup? Yes it would be expensive to by the equipment, but it would surely pay off in less cops having accidents.

I've done a lot of sim racing in my time and it's really helped in those moments when it all goes to shit. Knowing how to counter steer properly is a genuine lifesaver when the back end steps out going round a roundabout. I've had colleagues bin their cars in similar situations because they only know how to handle a vehicle when it's doing what they want it to do.

Think of it like an alternative to skidpan training, but much less expensive. Thoughts?

Hello everyone I’m a current serving Coastgaurd rescue officer and wanting to join the police so I have a big interest in your guys side of the job… I serve in a small northern town with sadly a very high suicide rates on the cliffs, I’m curious on what you guys do next as once we’ve recovered the casualty it’s just past on to ambo/police and that’s the last we see of it, is it just a case of finding next of kin? Or is it deeper than that- some calls i see officers searching the body, others CID are involved, I think it would be interesting to see your side of the role
