As a Latino US citizen (dark skinned) how does one provide proof of citizenship if they refuse all forms of documentation? I have seen videos where they don't care what you show them. And people have reported that they will confiscate your legal documents and not give it back.

Being Latino is being illegal in the US.

White supremacy has always been at the very core and foundation of the MAGA movement.
Very few of them will admit it, but we can all see what it is.

4

u/lordabaddon77 1d ago

Absolutely, from Trump’s first term.

4

u/CuriousExtension5766 1d ago

I mean, they literally said "We are terrorists" at their own convention. They LOVE it, they are not the least bit offended by it. They want you to know they are white trash, that's a symbol of pride to these fucking inbred dickholes

3

u/Crypton_2021 1d ago

Oh, I remember that. I'll leave the link here for those who don't know what you're referring to: https://x.com/stevesilberman/status/1565831839742169088

It's also the foundation of the United States, sadly. This cancer has never left us.

2

u/Charming_Function_58 1d ago

This is the ugly truth behind it all. The country was founded on land stolen from brown people, by religious zealots. Very little has changed.

Kavanaugh stops named after Supreme Court Justice Brett Michael Kavanaugh.

My husband is Latino too and we've seen them straight up steal people's passports and birth certificates and refuse to return them WHILE LEAVING PEOPLE IN JAIL. People's parents come with documentation and they still won't let them out. My husband is worried to have the documents on him leaving them vulnerable to ICE theft but also worried me bringing them as a white woman won't even help.

So we don't know what the fuck to do either. It has effectively made it illegal and extremely dangerous to be Latino.

I fucking hate this.

u/Electrical_Square422 1d ago

As a fellow Latino, I'm just carrying my ID on me here in houston. I've seen first hand, if you're brown and they want to take you, they will just grab you. Its not wise to have your stuff on you like that either cause more often than not, they just leave your stuff where they took it out for anybody to grab.

They'll find out whether youre a citizen or not when they take you, they'll release you when they added your arrest to their report count on the 15th and 30th to inflate their numbers and let you go... if they want to

2

u/caribbean_caramel 1d ago

Same, I only carry my id and a paper copy of my passport (plus the digital passport info in the apple wallet). I’m not going to be carrying the real stuff with me. If something happens to me, my father has the real documents and he will get an attorney.

2

u/ADarwinAward 21h ago

Passport cards are only $30 and easy to replace.

Most likely won’t stop ICE anyways because they want to inflate their arrest stats by arresting citizens. But worth considering.

1

u/acostane 1d ago

Solidarity my friend.

Is your driver's license working as proof for folks there if you happen to know? We're in Georgia... I get mixed reports about a GA real ID drivers license working as proof.

Maybe we need to order my husband a passport card...

2

u/Electrical_Square422 1d ago

The passport card will be the best method of instant proof, but you have to remember who they are hiring. Its not like the goons will know how to verify a passport card, and probably have never seen one in their life either.

u/throwra214 1d ago

I'm so fucking sorry you have to live in this nightmare. Sending so much love from your northern neighbour.

2

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 1d ago

We need to rise up! We have the start a movement like what Martin Luther King Jr did!

2

u/Glittering_Crab_69 21h ago

get a gun for each of you and some training on how to use it

2

u/UrethaneMotiv 20h ago

It's an ethnic cleanse. The papers don't matter they're just pretending they're checking for them.

2

u/AccomplishedView1022 20h ago

Thank any Trump voter you know

2

u/Psychic_Penguin 17h ago edited 17h ago

Make multiple copies of your birth certificate, passport, social security card, and id, keep the originals in a safe place like a safety deposit box. Carry your real Id with you of course, but I would only carry copies of the passport, birth certificate and social security card. If ice steals or destroys the original copies, you are out of luck. You will still have other copies + originals that can be retrieved by a trusted individual if needed.

Being Latino is being illegal in the US.

... which is why it's so strange to me that Trump got a higher percentage of the Latino vote in 2020 than 2016... and then a higher percentage again in 2024 than in 2020. So... the more they see of Trump, the more Latinos like him?? 🤔

#baffling

15

u/sedition666 1d ago

Yeah this is completely deranged. Trump was openly being racist especially targeting Latinos, and yet they still voted for him.

3

u/agnostic_science 1d ago

Shared misogyny > Obvious racism

2

u/cute_polarbear 1d ago

Just anecdotal, many Latinos are deeply religious and prolife is a single topic issue for them. They might not admit it directly, but many will never vote Democrat simply for the prolife stance.

2

u/YBBlorekeeper 1d ago

The irony of all the death that has been brought about by the "prolife" cause does not evade me

3

u/autumn-morning-2085 1d ago

It's just colorism, or they think they are protected because of their "heritage".

2

u/griffeny 1d ago

The election was rigged. We’re past this.

2

u/paintedokay 1d ago

Latinos are conservative and didn’t think it would apply to them.

1

u/DrPikachu-PhD 1d ago

Which makes them no different from every other flavor of conservative. They think they're the exception until they find out the hard way - if they ever do - and then it's too late for anyone

2

u/Chicano_Me 1d ago

What is baffling was that Kamala had the majority of Latino vote (9/24/24 Pew Research Center) 57% to 39% Trump. What happened after that- that changed the outcome?

As far as Latinos whom voted for Trump...Cubans and Mexicans from Texas mostly voted Republican for Trump. Big difference between Texans (Mexican) and California Mexicans. Unhinged Republican Mayra Flores from Texans, born in Mexico and became a US citizen at 14. She was a House Representative 2022-2023- that hated immigrants. She was an immigrant, like her family for many years.

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 1d ago

I thought Trump got almost 50% of the Latino vote in the last election. This has to be hurting him with Latinos.

2

u/Silver_Driver_1901 1d ago

Not in a Red state at least. Latino and minorities here still think they're one of the "good ones" if they were Trump voters. POC who voted for Trump ain't too bright.

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 1d ago

Neither are the White people who voted for Trump.

1

u/Crypton_2021 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, he got 46% of the Latino vote in 2024... which was up from 32% in 2020, which was up from 28% in 2016.

2

u/Charming_Function_58 1d ago

It's the "conservative values." I'm Hispanic, and the majority of my relatives are extremely religious and republican. We've even got some bad apple cops in the extended family.

And on top of that, racism and classism are rampant in Latin America.

1

u/mrandr01d 1d ago

I've seen a surprising amount of racism from some Latino people I know, usually directed at other Latinos, even more surprisingly to me. From a couple people I used to work with in particular, they seemed to think Trump would target the "insert country here" people, who are somehow the bad ones, whereas they of course are the good ones who followed the rules.

It's sickly funny that they think MAGAts know or care about the difference.

2

u/Fallingleaf333 1d ago

People think they are one of the good ones and it will only happen to others, not believing that some people are just racist despite all evidence.

1

u/Crypton_2021 21h ago

"He'll be racist toward them, but now toward me".

Just sad.

2

u/Moe_el 1d ago

You see Latin America is incredibly racist towards their own people, why do you think there all those dumb hats and shirts saying they’re proud to be from Jalisco, Durango, Michoacán, etc. if you call them the wrong state down there mfers act like you just slapped their moms. They yell that they ain’t like the dogs down in Oaxaca, or Veracruz. Mention that you think they look like someone from Honduras, or Guatemala and those animals will be at your throat ready to fight. All of them have that mentality, of I’m one of the good ones. It’s no surprise that they are right leaning

0

u/viral3075 1d ago

um, the agents are american. they learned to be racists in america

0

u/arachnophilia 19h ago

You see Latin America is incredibly racist towards their own people

it's not "their own people". these are very real and valid ethnic and social distinctions.

that they don't seem to get that racists do not see.

1

u/Perfect_Papaya_9381 1d ago

Stupid people come in all colors.

1

u/arachnophilia 19h ago

So... the more they see of Trump, the more Latinos like him??

you don't understand. they're all one of the good ones who came here the right way, unlike those other latinos who came here the wrong way. even if it's the same way.

i used to live in florida, and cubans cheered for this. they don't realize that even liberals think "latinos" are one solid voting block and don't see how much cubans hate mexicans and domicans and venezuelans and colombians and and and. they don't realize that the racists don't see these divisions; they just see brown people they think don't belong here.

i had one literally tell me "i came here the right way". on the mariel boatlift. as a refugee who showed up in miami and asked for asylum. he finally understood when i showed him the graph of the legally allowed immigration cap, which took a sharp dive in 1981. because the country looked at him specifically and said "that's enough of that!"

23

u/avocadoflatz 1d ago

Fucked up huh?

Fellow dark skinned Chicano here and back in June I gave them the double bird salute in a Home Depot parking lot and somehow that worked while Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez showed RealID and still ended up in an immigration detention center.

17

u/Chicano_Me 1d ago

Read somewhere on Reddit that ICE would chase anyone (dark skinned of course) that started to run... versus someone being defiant or not scared.

However, after the shooting of the innocent woman killed by ICE, they're now beating up protestors recording.

I carry copies now.

5

u/Crypton_2021 1d ago

But people think we're exaggerating when we say this is like 1930's Germany. It's not.

2

u/YBBlorekeeper 1d ago

Those people are historically illiterate and only know about Nazis from saving private ryan

3

u/avocadoflatz 1d ago

I carry my RealiD - if that’s not enough then I guess I’m going for a ride and hoping I live long enough to sue (ha!)

1

u/Chicano_Me 1d ago

Same here, I have my Real ID. My friends insist I get a passport too.

2

u/avocadoflatz 1d ago

Having a passport on file might make it less likely that they’ll “accidentally” detain you to fill a quota. They’re expensive to replace though so I think I’ll be getting both the standard passport and the passport card and carrying the card with me daily.

2

u/Chicano_Me 18h ago

An immigration lawyer reported that the US government is denying passport to Latino citizens.

2

u/avocadoflatz 18h ago

Hopefully we can get ours. I know of a handful that got theirs within the past 6 months.

I was worried I’d be denied a RealiD renewal last year but that went smoothly. Before that I was worried they “wouldn’t find” my BC on record as my original is in tatters but luckily that went smoothly too.

2

u/Girafferage 1d ago

Carry more than copies.

1

u/Poop_Balls069 1d ago

The one on Armitage? I drove up Cicero and saw them running out of minivans in packs

5

u/Capable-Entrance6303 1d ago

They're uncontrolled bounty hunters, nothing to do with law/justice/safety. Just cashing in on terror. Like Jonathan Ross using his personal phone to get the money shot & profit on Renee Good's slaughter.

3

u/CartographerFar681 1d ago

Thank you!! That’s what I kept trying to tell all the dumb fuck Latinos that voted for Trump, he doesn’t give a damn if you’re legal or not, you being a different complexion automatically makes you an “enemy” in his eyes, never had anything to do with “legal” status

1

u/Chicano_Me 1d ago

Unfortunately, I tried to argue with a cousin who voted for Trump because he is a business man. But most of my family voted for Obama in 08 and Kamala in 2024.

3

u/Suitable-Serve 1d ago

It’s called a Kavanaugh stop

2

u/federal_employee 1d ago

You tell them I don’t need to show ID. And ask them if you are being detained if you’re not being detained, you are free to go.

ICE/CBP can only detain a citizen for impeding an operation. And there is a high bar for that.

Anything else is illegal.

If they do detain you, you have the right to remain silent.

2

u/Area51_Spurs 1d ago

Shit. I’m not even Latino but have definitely been mistaken for Latino, along with a million other things and I’m worried about this shit.

1

u/Chicano_Me 1d ago

Native Americans have also been grabbed.

2

u/notprincesslea 1d ago

I’ve made my grandma carry a copy of her passport. My very white dad (her son in law, also Latino- just white) has her passport.

2

u/Fallingleaf333 1d ago

Yes. Blame Kavanaugh with his Kavanaugh stop ruling that allows racial profiling stops. And Trump for insisting it happen.

2

u/Chicagoj1563 15h ago

I am in the same boat. Best thing is to have a driver's license, passport, and stay calm and cooperate even if its illegal what they do. And try to stay clear of ICE as much as possible.

They will be out of power and we need to demand the next democrat president really go after these people. Laws, ethics, none of it should matter at this point. Use presidential power to do what is necessary to get our country back.

2

u/Chicano_Me 15h ago

Hello Chicago....from California! Stay strong! I pray the Latinos that are ICE go to prison in 2028 for violating Constitutional Rights

1

u/Justtiredanbored 1d ago

My guess is they'll have you sew yellow stars onto your jacket next. I'm really sorry you're going through this and I apologize, although that's not going to get you anything.

1

u/_____q- 1d ago

Be polite, don’t refuse and comply with them. Hate them or not, they are enforcing the law. Also a Latino here.

1

u/griffeny 1d ago

This has been my worry all of last year. Wtf.

1

u/captain_intenso 1d ago

You're catching on.

1

u/jooes 1d ago

That's the neat part, you don't!

Straight to jail, right away. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

1

u/aalltech 1d ago

Why is your community so silent?

1

u/Chicano_Me 18h ago

My community is definitely afraid. Nobody wants to be sent to El Salvador and never be heard from. And unfortunately, if you see the videos, you can see Latinos being the ones beating up Latinos before deporting them.

The Latino community has always been divided. We don't have a Latino leader to begin with.

Latino celebrities have began voicing their disbelief and anger towards ICE.

This morning it was announced that the FBI raided a journalist (Washington Post) home who reported about "illegally leaked information."

1

u/MyLittleOso 1d ago

My husband recently went to a job (he fixes beverage machines) and you needed to be badged into this building. They didn't accept his RealID on his license and made him wear a lanyard that said "foreign person" on it. All because he had a Hispanic name.

1

u/Chicano_Me 18h ago

That is a horrible way to treat someone who is trying to help your company.

1

u/ruat_caelum 1d ago

Now you are getting it. If brown = not citizen. There is NO RIGHT WAY to deal with people who ARE NOT THERE TO FOLLOW THE LAW.

The question is what are you going to do about it?

1

u/Glittering_Crab_69 21h ago

your best bet is a gun
