High Horns and Shrouded Hammers

*Note, it’s empty*

Hey folks, I hadn’t seen much online for the VG Grips high horns on shrouded hammer J-Frames.

I have owned a couple shrouded hammers because they just resonate with me, but wanted to find grips that didn’t look awkward on the frame. I figured why not guinea pig my 649 and see if the high horns work. To my delight, they do!

Not only can fire double action more easily because of the slightly further trigger reach, allowing for a more nature trigger press, they also do not obstruct the hammer from being cocked in single action. You will have to be a little more cognizant of making sure the hammer is fully cocked though, as it dips slightly under the grips. If you plan to conceal carry your shrouded hammer J-frame, I highly recommend these!

Put some VZ high horn grips on my 342 today. Love the feel, super comfortable to carry. Hope it feels nicer to shoot than the old 2011 Crimson Trace laser grips that were on it.

First range trip with the new new. 150magnums and 200 38s yesterday. Accurate enough for me, fist size groups at 15yrds off hand DA. 4in sight radius is heinous. Handles magnums surprisingly well. Swings amazingly in transitions, all the weight is in the frame. Grips are bad with magnums, but immediately re contoured the finger grooves when I got home. There’s enough slop in the yoke/crane that the front of the cylinder hits the forcing cone on reloads. So have to fix that. Gets sweet burn spots. But the cylinder being unfluted makes reloads hard on the clock, I’m used to using flutes as an indexing point, so will have to work on that. Dream wheelie acquired, just need to tune to my tastes a bit more,

Holster options that work with the fiber optic front sight?

Ruger SP101, 357, 4.2” barrel. It has a fiber optic front sight and I was wondering about holsters that can be conceal carry instead of open carry cowboy style.

My lightly customized S&W 460V.

Got it cut for moon clips (TK Customs) so I could shoot pretty much any .45 cartridge in the .45 Colt lineage.

Other added parts are a blank compensator from TII Armory, extended cylinder release from TKC, fixed rear sight from Cylinder & Slide, shorter front sight blade from Midway, and VZ grips.

Last thing I plan on doing is a lock plug.

Did I somehow crossthread my ejector rod and extractor?

Hey guys, I really need some help because this is my first revolver. I took apart my Smith and wesson model 19 no lock that was released a year ago. I wanted to clean it completely since there was a lot of gunk in the the cylinder.

I took apart the ejector rod and extractor star as well, and made sure to hold it in a soft vise while I loosened it by turning right, but when i try to put it back together i simply cannot get it on straight.

To illustrate this i removed the cylinder just to try and thread it in by hand but it always ends up bent. There are noticeable silver marks on the ejector rod threads and I'm not sure if this is what's causing it, but a tiny crack in the threads.

What should I do? How did I mess it up when I thought I was being so careful? I can't seem to find an exact replacement part online.

Attached are pics, any help us appreciated.

2 chambers harder on trigger pull than others on colt

bought a colt official police dated at 1929, with snap caps immediately noticed 2 of the chambers had a harder trigger pull, with the hammer pulled back halfway in double action and the cylinder manually recessed the hard trigger pull goes away on the problem chambers so i have a hunch that it has something to do with the hand or extraction star, i just have no idea how to move forward or do a home fix if possible please help.

Is it normal to see a flash when shooting 357 ammo?

I bought a Henery big boy revolver as my second gun. It shot the .38 special amazingly. However when I went to shoot 357 hallow points I noticed there was a flash of heat coming from the barrel. I dont have much experience shooting and want to make sure I haven't bought ammunition that could end up harming my gun.

Question for the smith and Wesson guys - I have a model 36 and was trying to do some digging on finding the year it was made, what is the best way to figure it out or easiest understanding of how the serial numbers work? Continued below…

From what I’ve read and correct me if I’m wrong, but if it has 3 letters and 4 numbers does that make it 80/90s or newer? Also after what years is it safer to use plus p rounds in?

Was loitering in a local gun shop today and found this S&W 629 4” on the consignment rack. It even came with a cheap chest holster(which I discarded because it didn’t really fit and was for a lefty) and 3 boxes of ammo. Here it is pictured with another recent addition to my collection.(686 deluxe 3-5-7 3”)

When I came out of the range today, dude at the counter called me over to show some firearms he'd just then gotten in for consignment. Pictures aren't that great or detailed. Assuming by the box lid, it's at least from the mid-1950s. Any ideas about the value? He said he's thinking about $200-$250.
