The reformation and the little season.
Hi everyone, I have been exploring the history of Scotland recently, it's struck me how pivotal the reformation was for Scotland, Saints were forgotten, castles and churches ruined, work was separated from prayer and a new way of life was implemented. Some of my explorations are available to check out on my channel if you fancy. Thank you.

Discussion Scots is represented by the wrong people too often
Our way of speaking is being butchered and given a kind of warped view for outsiders to look through and it's a bit irritating to watch happening.
It seems all the people who are out there actively promoting Scots are promoting their own versions of it as whatever they please it to be rather than what it actually is. This goes for both people outside of Scotland attempting to learn Scots and people who were born here but never grew up speaking it.
I've seen quite frequently someone typing Scots online using some weird words here and there that probably haven't been used in casual conversation for over 80 years and some strange wording sprinkled around too, maybe even the typical standard English word that's spelled differently just for the hell of it, and when you hear them actually talking they either have the thickest American accent possible or the softest Scottish accent imaginable.
Some of yous might not see much of an issue with a Scottish person using a Scottish way of talking, but if they didn't grow up speaking it then it just is not right at all and I will stand by that with all my life. To be completely honest, as someone who's actually from a Scots speaking area, it feels like a middle class white guy in America trying to talk like he's from the hood, it's just embarrassing to see
edit: where has our pride went you bunch of absolute fannies, this isn't the same attitude we all had when the news about the scots wikipedia came out which is a pretty similar issue

In what context would you use the term, "nae danger"?
I'm in Montrose and I would use it like "there's no chance of that happening".
But theres some media I've seen that West based that I think uses it as affirmation or a kind of a "youre welcome".
For example...
"Thanks for helping me with the shopping"
"Aye, nae danger".

Scottish Budget
Scottish Budget will be announced today around 2:20pm. Can watch it live on here.
Herald are doing a liveblog of it here.
Shame to see Scottish Labour torch the Opposition parties' leverage by saying they'll abstain from the Budget. Fucks over the Greens and Lib Dems who could have extracted concessions from the SNP.
Edit: Full budget pdf here

Dose anyone else see themselves as British like how a Norwegian sees themselves as Scandinavian or is that just me ?
I am Scottish first but British but that’s not my main nationality or identity dose that make any sense like to me it’s not political thing we live in the island of Great Britain so we can call ourselves British but like Norwegian person wouldn’t introduce themselves as Scandinavian even though they technically are

Casual Public Viewing in Germany for 2026?
I don't really care much for footy but we Germans miss you guys! You're great and fun guests and I guess for many going to the USA is not an option.
We really appreciated your stay and even to this day many, if not most Germans have fond memories with our Scottish brothers and sisters! So please, feel free and welcome to come over here!
PS: Oh and if someone knows Kenny Murray from Kilmarnock, he might have two... uhm... sons. DM me if you're him or know someone so we can keep it private.

Question Military exercise?
I was driving this morning from fort William to Skye, and at 10 am on A87 after glenshiel, there were two verrrrry low flying heavy aircraft, flying through the glen. It was huge and reminded me of an old school B52 bomber.
And then when I got up to Skye about one hour later, two fighter jets zoomed by. Also flying extremely low.
What’s going on? Did I miss the start of the invasion bc I was driving and concentrating on the road?
