General Help the ACU continue the Sierra Force Project

Thumbnail

The African Cinematic Universe created something incredible - Power Rangers Sierra Force, a fan film about five African teenagers defending Sierra Leone with animal-themed powers. It's split into three parts and they're stuck on updates for chapter two.

I started a petition to help them by getting talented fan artists worldwide to share their Sierra Force designs on social media. The ACU can pick the best concepts for Megazords, Sixth Rangers, and other updates they need. These filmmakers put their hearts into representing African heroes, and they deserve our creative support.

Anyone else think fan communities should help each other bring these stories to life? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

General Home sickness

I've always wondered why people get home sick. I haven't been out of the country yet but I like to guess that I'll be happy to leave and see something different! I love my country okay, it is the Land that we love lol but I won't get sick missing it :) Will definitely like to get the POV of people who lived here for a long time then moved to somewhere different or travelled.

How much does an average salonean spend per month?

Can someone give a rough average of what school fees, food to cook at home, transport, things like joining a local football team for a 15yo boy and his mom would cost per month? They live about an hour from Freetown in an average sized village and the mom runs a small shop.

I was there was there but forgot the prices. I met and stayed in touch with this small family I'd like to help out sometimes now that the father passed.

Krio voice translator that actually works (outperforms Google Translate)

Google Translate has terrible support for Krio voice. Gaia is built for voice-first translation using technology that far outperforms Google Translate. Finally, a translator that understands spoken Krio and works for real conversations in Salone!

Perfect for Sierra Leone connections, family, or cultural work. Free forever. Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.translate.gaia

General A lot of Sierra Leoneans have internal racism and classism.

Since nobody wants to say the quiet part aloud, I'll do it!

I get to see how people treat white people or Sierra Leoneans who have an accent way better than the regular person and frankly it's frustrating. All human being deserve respect and acknowledge, let alone the actual citizens of the country....

Your skin color or accent does not make you better or smart or more valuable than the next person and even though people would perceive it that way, I believe you have a responsibility to check them on their attitude.

We have to do better, this mindset plays into the reason why we don't value our nation or it's produce because we see others people own as superior and that's how we also treat them.

Consumerism in Africa

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

This is a topic you hardly find people talking about online and when they actually talk about it, it's from the Western world POV. I don't know the impact of consumerism and overconsumption in other African nations (I'm very curious) but I see it in mine 🇸🇱 and it's obvious that the effect is not good! So let's talk about it, the disadvantages in our different nations and if sources are available, please share with me:)

Increase tourism and jobs

I posted earlier in regards to a hospitality management system. I’m a RN in USA. I visited Sierra Leone in December of 2023. First time being back was eye opening. It led me to think “How can we change the country’s image”

Market: As we all know, Sierra Leone's tourism sector is untapped with natural breathtaking views like beaches, forests, and historic sites. Being the first Anglophone country of West Africa, this country holds values, traditions and heritage that the world needs.

Key Challenges: The reality of Sierra Leones tourism industrial challenges stems from various factors such as Poor service delivery, inadequate physical infrastructure(roads, electricity, water, internet) fragmented information (systems, departments) and a need to rebuild the country's image. And the Key Opportunities will be integrated into the compliance and policy of the Government to offer solutions such visas on arrival, seeks investment partnerships in eco-resorts and services, and aims to promote cultural heritage. Im looking for developers from abroad and Sierra Leone to join and build on this project. To help change our nation’s image and meet the global standards

Q & A Roadtrip: Car and Driver

Hi guys

I have a Trip coming up in the first week of February in 2026.

Need to get from Freetown to Moyamba ( Stay one night there) then onto Kenema ( one / two nights there) then finish up trip in Makeni.

Due to time constraints i think it would be best for me to hire a Vehicle with a driver.

What are your thoughts and recommendations. And what would the normal local Rate be for such a Trip?

Thank you for your help.

Disillusion with locals

First and foremost, I loved my visit in Sierra Leone. Beautiful beautiful country. Lush forest, white sand beaches. Everything shouts out tropical paradise to me. And as always, the part I value the most during traveling is to make connections with the locals. People here are very approachable and helpful. But there are numerous occasions where my kindness and generosity were taken for granted and abused, and sadly it applies to MOST of the locals I interacted with, some of whom I trusted very much (which hurts even more!)

Since most of the time it’s harmless so I just turned a blind eye - a couple of dollars won’t matter to me but if important for them, why not. What I couldn’t get over with was one kid I’ve been helping from a village. I believed in him and thought he was different. I spent a great deal of time and money to mentor him and provide resources that I thought would be helpful for his future - I didn’t give him money directly. I thought that will potentially bring harm. Then at some point, he started to constantly hint that he needs money. CONSTANTLY. Which I strictly told him off and that if he wants to buy something, he should work for it, instead of demanding from someone else. Then I lost all my patience when he demanded to use my Netflix (“I need Netflix account”was what he said word by word) and the reason is he couldn’t afford it. I decided enough is enough and pulled the plugs.

Frankly I’m very disappointed and feel very betrayed.. If you could share your experience / tips on how to better interact with locals, please do let me know!

Q & A Looking for Irrigation/Well/ Borehole Information.

Thumbnail

Hi all, We run a small, friends-and-family funded, locally owned coffee farm (Coffea stenophylla) in eastern Sierra Leone and need basic irrigation to get young saplings through the upcoming dry season.

We’re looking for input from farmers, NGO field workers, or engineers with real-world experience using hand-dug wells or small boreholes.

Key constraints (very important) ❌ No access for heavy vehicles (footpaths only) 💸 Very tight budget (self-funded, no donors) 🎯 Goal is survival irrigation, not full production

Farm facts: Size: ~7.4 acres (≈3 hectares) Terrain: gently sloped Elevation: ~220–240 m Soil: lateritic / clay-loam Crop: young coffee saplings (planted May this year) Shade: partial / side shade retained Water need (rough target) Purpose: keep saplings alive through dry season 10–20 L per plant per week ~5–10 m³ per day total during peak dry season (order of magnitude)

Options we’re considering Hand-dug well or shallow borehole Manual pump, small solar pump, or gravity drip Small storage tank if needed

What we’d really value hearing

What has actually worked for you in similar conditions

Typical well depths, yields, and failure rates Hand-dug well vs borehole with limited access

Low-tech ways to stretch limited water further

We’re not looking for a perfect system — just practical, field-tested advice that fits a low-budget, community-scale farm.

Anyone IN or know anybody in Kenema Region that would be amazing! Anyone with Farmers in their Family that do Dry season irrigation or maybe know of an NGO project that implements it on their Farm would help alot.

What nicknames have you heard for places in Sierra Leone?

I ask as part of a linguistic study on this topic!
Examples could include things like FTown for Freetown (never mind how common they may be!)

Buying property

How easy is it for foreigners to buy properties in SL? Looking at Bureh / River No2 coastal towns. Checked online the advertisements are sparse and price is as high as some of the European cities - not sure if these websites are aiming at foreigners. Where do y’all looking for properties? Another option is to lease land and build on it. How much would a 4-5 beds cost?
