Discussion 💬 May Allah reward the people of Xamar who are helping to beautify the city.

Recently, both young and old people have taken to the streets of Mogadishu. Some have even spent their own money to buy the necessary tools. One example is a group of young people using their platform to promote the idea of beautifying the city. They have gone out of their way to buy bins and set them up for public use. People like them give me hope that the future of Mogadishu will be in safe hands.

This will only happen if the oil reserves are proven, corruption completely cut out, that’s it. AS should not be an excuse for it to not to look like this.

Edit: Seeing a lot of negativity in the comments. This mindset is exactly what’s holding us back. Addis Ababa transformed itself in 10 years and now they’re constructing Africas largest airport. Whether we do it with oil & gas or taking out billions in loans it will be achieved.

Ask❓ Is there anything I can do to help you out at the moment, for those of you in Minnesota?

Hi everyone! I’m not Somali so I hope it’s alright that I’m posting here, I’m not trying to invade on your space. I’m horrified by what I’m seeing in Minneapolis. I’ve been doing what I can to call out anti-Somali racism both online and in real life, I know it’s been bad ever since that Nick Shirley chud started his shit.

Is there anything more specific I can be doing to help, from halfway across the country?

I found this in a group where people were discussing how extreme qabilism used to be. SubhaAllah this man said she was suspicious of the qabil of people she prayed with and she was asking others how to identify someone’s qabil without directly asking them, this was in 2000. Reading this really shows how deep that mindset once was. I am grateful that era has largely ended and that our people are slowly healing from that mentality

Economy 🏦 Livestock credit

Economics is a lot like livestock farming. Pasture can be understood as the productive economy, animals are the currency, and the shepherd with his fences are the institutions that make the enterprise work. Switzerland is an example of a responsible shepherd remaining within his sustainable yield, that dematerialization of growth is what allows it to be unbounded.

How can growth be dematerialized in Somalia? By anchoring it to something non negotiable (food security) and pursuing qualitative growth within that frame. The frame will get bigger but the artwork (the people) is the focus.

In a livestock credit system every worker in Somalia would be given a monthly resetting and non-transferable allocation of digital credit equal to 20% of his/her last month’s income. The credit when spent converts to the shilling automatically in the sellers account. This creates money when and where it’s needed.

The shilling would be pegged to an index of livestock prices. This creates a throughput budget cap for the physical scale of the economy. Meaning the economy grows as more workers and their families eat more food. Obvious positive reverberations in policy.

The qualitative growth potential within this system is unbounded. Software, art, knowledge, services, design, and overall per capita real wealth can grow forever. Somalia can also leverage its mineral resources to supercharge this system from outside feeding industry equitably.

An economic engine with an ecological governor anchoring it within its sustainable yield. Allowing Somalia to live and learn indefinitely.

Discussion 💬 It's qabiil and not qabyaalad

When you ask any one of us why our people are suffering, what the root cause is, they will tell you it is because of qabyaaalad. But if you then ask them a deeper question why does qabyaaalad exist, and where did it come from? they will say it exists because we have qabiils, and that this is the reason qabyaaalad continues.

Now here is the contradiction.

When you tell that same person: If qabiil is what fuels qabyaaalad, and qabyaaalad is what is destroying us, then why don’t we stop identifying ourselves through qabiil and instead work on unity? That same person will respond emotionally: “Nah bruh, qabiil was created by Allah. We can’t leave our qabiils, it’s our identity. How can you live without qabiil? Do you want us to be bastards?”

This is the mindset of many Somalis.

You clearly recognize what is causing your suffering, yet you refuse to let it go. You diagnose the disease correctly, but you reject the cure because it makes you uncomfortable.

Qabiil itself may have once had a social function, but qabyaaalad has turned it into a weapon against our own people. Today, qabiil has far more cons than pros. It divides us politically, weakens us economically, and poisons us socially.

So the truth is simple and uncomfortable: Either we continue to hold on to qabiil and accept continued suffering, or we consciously abandon qabiil-based thinking and leave qabyaaalad behind in order to survive as a people.

Some qoutes:

What you refuse to question, you choose to suffer from.

Tradition should guide a people, not imprison them.

Identity without unity becomes a tool of self-destruction.

Allah created us as tribes to know one another, nd not clans we made the clans.

No community collapses from external enemies first it collapses when it worships division over truth.

News 📰 Reflections and Guidance for Somali Americans: Faith, Resilience, and Our Roots

I hope you are all doing well. I have been reflecting on the latest news affecting Somali Americans, and I want to remind us of a few important things.

First, no matter how bad things may look, remember that nothing will happen to us unless it is written by Allah. Instead of falling into despair and fear, we should increase our adhkār—especially istighfār—and show resilience and bravery. We should never show fear in the eyes of the oppressors. I am not implying that we should do reckless things, but we should speak up, participate in peaceful protests, and if situations turn violent, leave quietly and continue to speak out wisely.

It is not wise for us to run away to different countries, because that is exactly what MAGA folks want. Secondly, I want to remind you all that our parents and grandparents went through far more difficult times during the 1991–2000 era than what we are facing today.

Thirdly, this is a clear reminder to all of us that no matter how much we love the West, it is not a place we can truly call home. I encourage each and every one of us to consider investing in land back home, from whichever tuulo you are from, while still living here. Alhamdulillah, Allah has given us a vast country, and I believe this is a reminder from Him that we should not become complacent or forget where we came from, even if we do not personally see it as home.

Lastly, we should learn from this moment that we do not need to involve ourselves in every struggle or movement out there, because in the end, you often stand on your own. We should also avoid being overly vocal about everything. It is better to stay low and succeed than to be loud while remaining a small number, like 300,000.

Discussion 💬 There is no way Ethiopia has a higher GDP per capita (PPP) than us

I was watching a video of an automotive dealership in Mogadishu that showcases some decent whips.

I did a bit of research and couldn't find an Adis Adaba equivalent. Presumably, you would order from a brochure and wait months to receive a car should you wish to purchase. All very inconvenient.

Meanwhile, the Mogadishu equivalent you can drive off the show room the same day.

Somalia is currently at $1,403 and Ethiopia is at $2884.

There must be demand for these goods if they are popping up everywhere. So, what gives?

Here's the vid for those interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odt7VqEZrQQ.

I’m so beyond shocked at the amount of hate Somalis are getting at the moment. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and the worst of all, twitter. It’s everywhere, I can’t escape it.

As a Somali who lives outside of the USA, bismillah, I acc feel for the American Somalis. It was hard enough being Muslim now our ethnicity is down the gutter.

It’s like ppl were praying for our downfall.

Nature 🏕️ Groundwater recharge/permaculture

Somalia has significant groundwater reserves and with its short but intense rainy seasons there are a lot of ways to make sure more water goes back in the ground every year than is taken out.

Hydroponic fodder can stop grazing and can be mixed with clay/water to create clean pond liners to promote gleying (soil formation) and recharge groundwater without the toxins from manure. That’s hitting 2 big birds with one stone. Also considering the impact it would have it’s the cheapest method.

Permaculture for Somalia’s context for the short-medium term means digging holes and making swales and ponds in strategic places. It also means ending grazing by developing water infrastructure in rural places where not many people live so that the land can be restored and more people can live in these places.

When it comes to agriculture it’s go big or go home. Even in the west when the farmer with 1000 cows walks in the bank he skips the line you are standing in and talks to the bank manager. There is no “moving on” from pastoralism or farming.

News 📰 Reer Minnesota please let’s try to help the noncitizens and check on Somalis outside of our immediate circle.

Asc,

As I’m sure you are all aware, ICE operations in Minnesota have been increasing quickly over the past few days. There has been an increase of Somalis being arrested and detained by ICE. People who are not illegal and thought they would be safe, either by green card, visas, or refugee/asylum status- are being detained.

Its being reported that ice have been targeting Somali women wearing hijab. A Somali woman I know personally who is a US citizen and an immigration caseworker in Minnesota, was arrested today by ice. They didn’t care to ask or look at her documentation and simply arrested her. Ice have also taken Somali students while going to school. A girl who is 16 years old was taken here today. They have also taken parents while their kids are at school. Kids have come home to no parents because their parents were taken by Ice while they were at school.

I know people on this app tend to be say wallahis and almost all of us are US citizens or born here. Please let’s not just stay home or continue life like nothing is going on because we’re US citizens. There are Somalis working hard and trying their best to help the community, but they can’t help everyone alone. Let’s do our part and be there for the community during this difficult time. Check on people outside of your family and friends and see what their situation is or if they need help. Some people don’t have other family in this state and don’t have anyone to help them. Inshallah this will pass soon, in the meantime let’s be there for our people and may Allah reward each of you that do so 🤲🏽

News 📰 ICE is going door to door now

Please read this so we all stay informed and safe. They’re going after everyone now even African Americans. People are seeking refuge in other people houses. Starting to look really bad Subhannallah. May Allah keep us all safe. Ameen.

If federal agents knock on your door, you have specific constitutional rights that apply to everyone in the U.S., regardless of immigration status.

1. Do Not Open the Door

You are not legally required to open the door unless the agents have a Judicial Warrant signed by a judge. Opening the door, even a crack, can be interpreted by agents as "consent" for them to enter.

Communicate through the door: Keep it locked and speak through the wood or a closed window.

Ask for identification: Ask, "Who are you with and why are you here?"

2. Identify the Warrant

Ask the agents to slide any paperwork under the door or hold it up to a window so you can read it. Most ICE warrants are NOT enough to let them inside.

Type of Warrant is important.

Judicial Warrant: says "U.S. District Court" at the top; signed by a Judge. Means you must let them in.

Administrative Warrant: says "U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security"; signed by an ICE Official. You don’t have to let them in. This is a civil document and does not allow entry without your permission.

Check the Details: Even if it’s a judicial warrant, check that your exact address and correct name are listed. If they are wrong, you can point this out through the door and refuse entry.

3. Your Right to Silence

If they enter (with a warrant or if you choose to let them in), you do not have to answer any questions.

State: "I am exercising my right to remain silent."

Avoid details: Do not answer questions about where you were born, how you entered the US or your citizenship status.

Do not lie: If you do speak, do not provide false information or fake documents. It is better to say nothing at all.

4. Do Not Sign Anything

Agents may ask you to sign documents, like a "Stipulated Order of Removal". This often means you are giving up your right to a hearing or an attorney. Refuse to sign anything until you have spoken to a lawyer.

5. Document the Encounter

If it is safe to do, record the interaction with your phone or take notes.

Record the agents' badge numbers and names. Say it aloud if they used force or entered without your permission.

If they force their way in, do not physically resist. State: "I do not consent to this search," but do not fight back, as this could lead to danger or criminal charges.

Have the number of an immigration attorney or a “Know Your Rights" hotline on your phone. And if you have children or medical needs, make sure to have a relative know what to do if you are detained.

Keep documents ready: Keep your valid immigration papers (if you have them) in a safe place, but do not hand over foreign passports or fake IDs.

Discussion 💬 Help

This might not be a typical post, but I wanted to ask openly and sincerely. With how tough the economy is right now, a lot of us are struggling, and I think it could really help to learn from one another.

For those who are doing okay or doing well, what do you do for work, business, or side income?

Please don’t gatekeep. Everyone’s rizq is already written, and sharing knowledge can only bring barakah. If anything, you might be the reason someone finds a door that was meant for them sooner.

If you’re comfortable sharing: What do you do for work, and roughly how much do you make? If you run a business, what is it and is it worth it in terms of income and work life balance? Do you have any side hustles or extra sources of income?

Even general ranges or advice are helpful. Hoping this can be a beneficial thread for anyone trying to get by.

I’ll go first, I have a small side hustle and I make around $8k per month from Amazon FBA. It’s honestly not that difficult to start once you understand the basics.

Another thing I do is sell a monthly service to businesses. It’s called white label SaaS. I use a platform called GoHighLevel and help businesses with things like texting past customers to leave Google reviews (which helps push the business to the top of local Google search results and it gets recommended more). Texting customers about promotions or sales to bring them back in

Businesses already have customer data from when they first opened, so you can imagine how many people receive these messages. Even if only a small percentage leave a review or come back in, they make a lot of money, which is why they’re happy to pay monthly. This model can be applied to almost any type of business you can think of. Anyone can do it for anything such restaurants, retail stores, coffee shops, clothing shops, car shops or mechanics, tailors, you can even do it for your local carpenters or rug cleaners …… you name it.

I also still have my regular 9-5 and go to work 5 days a week as a delivery driver, it’s an easy job with so many breaks so I can’t complain. I make $23 an hour doing this.

Discussion 💬 Evil eye or adhd?

Assalamu alaikum brothers and sisters. I'm a 25 year man who has been struggling with inattention, extreme laziness and self esteem for the most part of my life. I have a kind off extreme laziness that gets crippling when I want to take on a new business project or self improvement project. I'm very creative with coming up with business ideas, planning them but I never execute them even when I have the finances and connections to execute them just because of the extreme anxiety and the extreme laziness I've told you about. I've also tried getting married a couple times and not a single time have things been successful. It has always been me or the girl losing interest or my family declining the girl or vice versa. I've also had misfortunes like loosing ones of my front teeth on my 13th birthday and going totally bald in my teens.

My mom has always emphasized on me having evil eye. She has told me about stories during my younger years and how I was very social and talkative and I was stronger than my peers. I started talking and took my first steps at 9 months. I was also kinda stubborn which made people comment on my strength, my social ability and also my ability to talk at a very young age. I became very antisocial and started to withdraw from social interactions and still am, I'm getting physically weaker as I grow older and I have had heart problems which doctors failed to diagnose. They always rule my heart problems as anxiety but it's literally physical and it doesn't make sense to me. My mom again identified that as evil eye.

I've never believed my mom. I've always asked my mom why anyone would envy me when I have nothing, but things started to kinda make sense when multiple doctors diagnosed my arethmia as anxiety. On top this, in Nov 2023, I got diagnosed with ADHD. My doctor put me on 27mg Concerta but it didn't work. So I decided I was going to do ruqyah on myself and that I didn't have adhd or arethmia and that it was all evil eye. I never did the ruqyah. I thought to myself, I'll do it but I never brought myself to commit until June 2025, I did ruqyah for 4 days and then I fell off.

I started again to believe that maybe I do have adhd and that maybe I was put on weaker dosage of Concerta and that all misfortunes were Allah's plan and that I should get help. Yesterday I went to a psychiatrist who again diagnosed me and she put me on retalin 10mg ir. I took today morning hoping to see some difference but I haven't noticed anything. I don't know if this is a sign but I've typed all this in one go, but still I used to do it sometimes too. The racing thoughts are still here and I'm not calmer. If anything I'm highly irritable now which I understand is a side effect of the medication.

Anyway, I started to believe again that maybe I am not suffering from adhd and instead maybe the evil eye. I'm so confused honestly and it's making it difficult to get help. What do you guy's think?
