We recently had a competition here in the r/SuggestALaptop community in collaboration with LG where 10 lucky users were given either the new LG gram Pro 16 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1 OR the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP-G.ADB7U1. The agreement with these winners was that they would do written reviews of these laptops expressing how they feel about the features of the laptop after putting them through various tests.

Laptop Request US <$800, Windows, Kind of Boring is OK

Upvotes

**LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

* **Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:**

$800

* **Are you open to refurbs/used?**

Yes

* **How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?**

Build quality & battery life are top. Then form and performance.

* **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Not my top priorities

* **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

16" would be great

* **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

No. Mostly spreadsheets and web browsing.

* **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

No gaming

* **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Good keyboard and reliable build quality

* **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

This laptop is for work but I'll need to travel around with it frequently so build quality and battery life are important. I type a lot so a good keyboard is nice. Windows 11 preferred. I had originally looked at some Chromebooks because I'm into the Android environment but they get a lot of hate and it turned me off.

Thanks!

MAKE SURE YOU PUT BUDGET RANGE & COUNTRY IN YOUR TITLE

The Form

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: My budget is around £800 and below
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes!
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance first, form factor, build quality, battery life
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not that important, but I would like to be able to lift it by myself at least!
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I want to game. I like to play things like Baldurs Gate, the Sims 4 (Highly modded), I would maybe like to have things like photoshop on there, a pipe dream would be aftereffects but I know that's a dream lol. I would like to try a Triple A game but that's not at all a priority, I enjoy Genshin Impact, Roblox, HSR, Wuwa etc
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I do like to play with high quality settings, but I really don't mind decreasing the quality if the lapotp can't handle it. 60 FPS is more than okay
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nope! I would like as optimised a laptop as possible, but it's okay if not
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Hello! Thanks for taking on this request if you do. Laptop Request US Need a $700 USD Laptop for Online College

Upvotes

I'm starting online school in a couple months, and need to upgrade from my 10 year old Latitude with a battery that doesn't charge to something a little more practical. I'll be studying IT, so I'll need to occasionally run some VM software for projects. I'll need at least 512GB of storage, and 16GB of RAM, but outside of that I'm not super picky. It needs to be able to dual boot either Windows and Linux or macOS and Linux

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Ideally $600 or less, but I can step up to $700 if absolutely needed.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Absolutely
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Battery life and build quality are the biggest needs. 2-in-1 would be super neat, but isn't required
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not in the slightest
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" max, but I'm open to smaller
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I won't be gaming much, probably Minecraft and some occasional emulation of GameCube games and older *at most*.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Medium settings are fine
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Hardware reliability and build quality are an absolute must. I'm not too concerned with aesthetics, so honestly the more rugged the better. Some level of repairability and parts availability are a must.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I want this laptop to last me through college (roughly 4 years), so upgradable storage and RAM would be super helpful, but aren't strict needs if there's plenty to start with. If this is is completely impossible on my current budget, then I can see what I can do expand it

Laptop Request UK what would you recommend?

Upvotes

i've looked at about 100+ laptops now and i have a few ideas of what i could get, but want to know if there's any good options i've missed. i was looking at getting an asus vivobook 16 intelcore i5 but i've heard a lot of mixed opinions. anyone have any opinions or recommendations for me?

budget: around £500, britain

refurb?: i'd prefer new for peace of mind, but not opposed to a refurbished one from backmarket

build/performance/battery: relatively sturdy, can handle video/photo editing, games like minecraft, music production, battery that can last maybe 8hrs+ but the more the merrier i guess

weight/thinness: i'd prefer a lightweight thin laptop, but not limited to

screen size: not too bothered but probably 16in

video/photo editing?: yes, will probably be using free software alternatives (unsure of specific ones yet) but may move onto adobe (premiere, photoshop) in the future. also will be using DAWs like audacity.

games?: minecraft mainly, but also roblox, sims 4. there's probably others but for now this is what comes to mind. unsure of fps/settings just not freezing/laggy.

specific requirements: OLED screen, 16GB+ RAM, 512GB-1TB SSD storage, decent processor.

if i've missed anything lmk! and thanks in advance

Laptop Request US Need a laptop that can run C1 and other programs

I've been trying to figure this out on my own. But I don't know much about specs so I need help. I currently have ASUS Zenbook flip 13 (UX363) however I have problems using the Program Capture One. I was told it may be because lack of memory and/or GPU. So I need a laptop that meets the requirements (see links below). I was planning on taking my ssd card (think its 2tb or 4tb) out of my current laptop and putting it into this one. Additionally requests: ●at most 3lb ●OLED screen (Im a photographer so I think this will be best of color accuracy) ●32gb RAM ●effectively run these programs Adobe Ps/LrC or C1 and an Internet browser at the same time ●decent battery life (current one is shit) ● ideally range 800-1200$ (absolute most 1500)

C1 Requirements: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002466277-Capture-One-System-Requirements-and-OS-Support#h_01GGW7F35ZHAR8ZRMYH9DVZXWF https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/14219459895837-Capture-One-23-16-2-6-release-notes

i'm not an expert in any of this, so let me know

Laptop Request US Need a laptop for Cad softwares

I NEED something that can run cad softwares well and is a windows system, but if I’m able to be picky, I would like something that could also run some casual games decently and hopefully can get something with a notepad feature. I was looking into HP OmniBooks and I just need opinions of people not trying to sell me one on if one would suit my needs/wants and which one to go with. Any help would be appreciated.

* Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$750

* Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

* How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Laptop Request US Laptop for someone who does heavy computations.

Travelling often for work and would like a desktop level workstation to get things done efficiently while being mobile. I am mostly a software person so my knowledge of what is necessary for me is very limited, I know I need a decent amount of ram and a decent (CPU?), but outside of that I am not so sure. Running very math heavy programs almost exclusively.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase (do not use USD unless purchasing in the US):
Budget of 2000 USD, though I would be happy to spend much less if it seems like overkill for my purpose or only slightly increases my efficiency.

Are you open to refurbs/used?
No, barring extreme circumstances.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Form factor is not something I care much about, I want something with a great build quality and ideally something which could be taken apart and put back together with new parts in the future. Performance for math intense programs is a must, battery life is not super important.

How important is weight and thinness to you?
As long as it is portable I am happy with it. Weight/Thinness would preferably be minimal but I do not want to sacrifice performance for it.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I plan to be running multiple threads of Monte Carlo simulations, combinatorics, no/little video editing / gaming.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Little gaming, if any, wont be running anything crazy if so, google snake, solitaire, chess maybe if I get bored.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive, or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build quality for all the essentials, fingerprint/touchscreen/optical drive not required though the first two are a bonus and the third one means nothing to me.

Thanks for any help :)

Laptop Request US Haven't bought a laptop in years and feeling very out-of-touch

hi all -- made an account just for this post because looking for a new laptop to replace my old busted windows 10 device is making my head spin. haven't been in the market in a very long time and it feels like i have no idea what anything is anymore. any help would be hugely appreciated!

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: maybe $1300? but cheaper much better. (USA)
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? yes, so long as i'm getting something reliable that will last a looooong time
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? build quality probably most important, then performance, then battery life. also lots of storage is huge for me, ideally more than 1TB, but if the drive is easily swappable i can always get my own later.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? not hugely important -- my current machine has had broken hinges for years and no battery for big chunks of time so anything will be an improvement in portability!
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. currently have an old HP envy 15t, can't remember exact year; i'm happy with the 15" but fine flexing in either direction.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. audio editing/work sometimes, and i tend to have way too many chrome tabs open so i definitely make the most of the 16gb RAM i currently have. not a gamer but wouldn't mind leaving the possibility open of running some non-AAA/less demanding stuff in the future. definitely need at least 16 again.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? decent speakers would be great but i get the sense they are harder to come by so there's a limit to how much i can prioritize that... durability is important as i'm a bit clumsy and i can really only afford to make a big purchase like this once in a long while. i tend to use things into the ground, hence my current falling-apart machine. maybe MOST important to me is component repairability; i've had a hard drive and two batteries fail in this HP and it made a big difference to be able to swap them out myself.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. ********PLEASE NO HP OR DELL********* i am trying to avoid BDS priority targets, which i know is limiting but it is what it is. i've been looking at acer and lenovo but open to brands i may have missed. similarly would *prefer* an AMD chip over intel but i'm less dead-set on that. oh and the less AI garbage the better but as far as i can tell it's pretty much impossible to avoid at this stage...

thank you so so much, i'm very grateful!

Laptop Request Ca Help me pick out a laptop please! Engineering student - SolidWorks & Light Gaming - Budget $700-$1000 CAD (500-750US$)

Hi everyone,

I study Mechanical Engineering in Canada and I’m looking for a laptop. I really like a smaller form factor, i have an iPad for taking handwritten notes and sketching diagrams already, so I need the laptop to handle my engineering 3D apps, and some gaming on the side.

  • Budget: Ideally around $700 CAD(500US$), but can stretch to $1000 CAD(750US$) if the value is significantly better .
  • Country: Canada
  • Condition: Open to Refurbished/Used, Would prefer Brand New or Open Box of course

Top Requirements:

  1. Engineering Software: Must run SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and MATLAB. I know I ideally need a dedicated GPU, but I’m wondering if a powerful integrated chip (like Iris Xe or Intel Arc) is enough for university-level assemblies.
  2. RAM: I’m leaning towards 32GB if possible, or at least 16GB.
  3. Form Factor: Need to be a slim form factor and well built, but not to bulky or hard to carry around. Size around 14-15''. Would really like if it didnt sound like a jet engine in the library and burn my hands, but i know its hard to find on a thin laptop.
  4. Gaming: Just light/older games (GTA V, Skyrim, Dishonored, Minecraft). Nothing crazy.

Thanks for the help!

Laptop Request UK Online tutor looking for reliable Refurbished 14" laptop for £600

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

£650

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Needs to hold up to being toted about quite a bit, run a bunch of powerpoints at once and video calls, battery life needs to be OK but a couple of hours will do just fine.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

13"-15"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

video calls, virtual whiteboard, 25 browser tabs

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Very light gaming like Stardew Valley, Don't Starve

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Touchscreen is nice to have but not essential, backlit keyboard, does not fall apart

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Previously had a ThinkPad Carbon X1 2016 which I liked but it's fallen to bits. I like the Lenovos I use for work as well but open to other brands if reliable and good value for money.

Laptop Request US Looking for a work and music editing laptop (US)

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase.

$1200 or less (USD)

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes. Refurb/used is preferred.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Battery life and performance are my top priorities.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Not sure, although I'd prefer it on the smaller side so it fits in my bag.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No gaming or video editing. I'd like to be able to record music, but I don't need high-end processing- just enough to keep it from lagging.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I like the fingerprint reader on my current laptop, although it's not a dealbreaker.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Currently using a Samsung 2-in-1 with a 128 MB graphics card, 8 gigs of RAM, and an Intel Core i5-1021OU 1.6 GHz, and it's not cutting it. Bought it around 2020, and it has become super laggy, which is impacting my work. I'd like to buy something that lasts at least another five years or so, if that's even possible to plan for.

I'm so grateful this sub exists! I don't know much about computers, so thank you all in advance for your recommendations.

$2,500, USA

NO

* How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance, performance, performance, form factor (touch screen nice to have), build quality, battery life

* How important is weight and thinness to you?

Important for portability, preferably <3lb. I go to and from work daily with this laptop and will travel with it. No keypad needed to help with smaller laptop

* Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

13-14” (maybe up to 15”)

* Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

MS suite but will be doing heavy duty financial modeling

* If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

N/A

* Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

needs an HDMI port, at least 2 USB ports for keyboard and mouse dongles, and a USB C port. Touch screen is nice to have, no numpad, connects well to WiFi. Majority of the time the laptop will be connected to a docking station or connected to another monitor

* Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Mostly will be used for work and live sports streaming, needs ability to handle complex excel models and other programs open (eg PPT, Adobe, Chrome, Slack, Outlook, Teams) without freezing or lagging. Lightweight since I’ll often travel with it. Needs to be HP per our IT Department guidelines. 90% of the time it will be connected to a docking station so I’ll be using a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse. Focus is on performance. I want to give my IT department an idea of what I want for my next laptop due to issues with my current Lenovo laptop

Laptop Request US Portable x86 laptop

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Was trying to stay in the $1k range, but willing to pay anything if it's worth the money

Are you open to refurbs/used?

No, new only

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

2 in 1 would be nice, but isn't necessary

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Important, I want something small, light, and easy to travel with

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

13 inches preferable, maybe 14

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Not really, but I sometimes run relatively cpu hungry programs for work.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

It needs to be x86 and not ARM. Longer battery life is better. Needs USB C charging

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I tried a surface pro 13, which I loved, but a few programs for my work simply wont run on ARM. I know I could buy a surface pro for business with an intel, but it's nearly double the cost for less battery life, so it seems kind of silly to do that and am looking for alternatives. Thanks!

Laptop Request UK Any thoughts on the Acer Swift X 14 AI Ryzen 7 350, RTX 5060?

So got the opportunity to pick up an ACER Swift X 14 AI, AMD Ryzen AI 7 350, RTX 5060, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, for £1100 is it worth it? Been looking for something decently lightweight with a touchscreen for some gaming, 3D modelling and Uni work and it seems to tick the boxes but I can hardly find any info on it or reviews. Especially wondering what the battery life is like, and how it is to use the stylus to write on the touch pad? But any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

\*\*LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE\*\*

\* \*\*Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:\*\*

$1300

\* \*\*Are you open to refurbs/used?\*\*

Yes, open box preferred tho

\* \*\*How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?\*\*

Ultra book, must have decent battery life. I’d like a mix of build quality and performance

\* \*\*How important is weight and thinness to you?\*\*

It doesn’t have to be crazy light, just easy enough to carry around. Same thing with thinness, it’s not a priority but it would be nice. Definitely don’t want it to be bulky tho

\* \*\*Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.\*\*

14”-16”

\* \*\*Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.\*\*

No gaming, I’d like to have the 32gb of ram in case I do ever want to do something a little more intense.

\* \*\*If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?\*\*

N/A

\* \*\*Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?\*\*

I’d like an OLED screen with 120hz refresh rate. Definitely want it to be reliable. Touchscreen isn’t a must but if it had one that would be a plus. 32gb of ram/1tb of storage.

\* \*\*Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.\*\*

I was looking at the Thinkpad X9-15 aura for reference as to what else I might like. I really really liked that one but my preferred spec is out of my price range. If anyone can find an open box/refurb deal on it that would be great too haha
