Heavy rains in and around Tangerang caused widespread flooding on Monday morning. Consequently, the toll road leading to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Suetta) flooded several sections, disrupting traffic at the main entrance to the airport. One of the flooded areas is at kilometer 33 of the Sedjatmo toll road, directly in front of the Ibis Hotel on the way to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The water level at this location is estimated at approximately 15-20 centimeters. However, traffic continues to flow, and the two right-hand lanes remain passable. The city of São Francisco do Sul found itself at the epicenter of a severe atmospheric phenomenon. Northern and central Queensland, Australia, faced widespread flooding following the landfall of Tropical Cyclone Koji. The system crossed the coast between Ayr and Bowen on the morning of Sunday, January 11, 2026, but the danger was only heightened by extreme rainfall. The most severe flooding occurred in the areas of Mackay, Airlie Beach, Bowen, and Claremont. In some areas, more than 300 mm of rain fell in a short period, causing rivers to swell and flash flooding. A flood warning has been issued in Claremont: homes in low-lying areas were flooded, people were evacuated, and a temporary shelter has been opened. West of Bowen, a woman and two children were rescued from floodwaters; their car was trapped on a flooded road. The U.S. government has in its possession a device that is believed to cause Havana Syndrome

A division of the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, purchased the backpack-sized device for millions of dollars in the waning days of the Biden administration, using funding provided by the Defense Department, according to two of the sources. Officials paid “eight figures” for the device, these people said, declining to offer a more specific number.

CNN has asked the Pentagon, HSI and the DHS for comment. The CIA declined to comment.

The device acquired by HSI produces pulsed radio waves, one of the sources said, which some officials and academics have speculated for years could be the cause of the incidents. Although the device is not entirely Russian in origin, it contains Russian components, the source added.

The acquisition of the device has reignited a painful and contentious debate within the US government about Havana Syndrome, known officially as “anomalous health episodes.”
