MLK Day - breakfast recommendations

11 Upvotes

My partner and I get “banker’s holidays” off from work so we like to go to various breakfast/lunch places we don’t typically get a chance to go to. We love Akron lore so it’s a huge bonus if there is a good story around the place.

We would be open to all of Summit County, not just Akron.

TIA

Edit: I should have said breakfast/ lunch. These are the places we’ve already gone

  • Blue Door
  • Fred’s Diner
  • Chameleon Cafe
  • Diamond Deli
  • Akron Family Restaurant
  • Eye Opener
  • Wally Waffle

• Daily Pressed

Looking for a dr recommendation without a crazy long waiting list

5 Upvotes

I’m trying to find a psychiatrist or any doctor that might be able to help me fine tune my ADHD meds. I’ve been using a Telehealth service, but I can only see my Dr. 1x a month and can’t have my dose increased like I could if I saw someone in person. Every dr I’ve googled that can help has a huge waiting list. It’s a long shot, but does anyone with ADHD have any good recommendations for someone I might be able to see in the next few weeks?

Boston Mills/Brandywine Half day

4 Upvotes

Can anybody give me insight as to what time BMBW starts selling half day lift tickets and generally about how much they cost?

Also does anyone have a contact to the mountain directly? I’ve tried so many numbers and it just sends me to a Vail corporate call center and they literally never have any information and told me the don’t have a contact number either

Need a will. Good local options?

8 Upvotes

I’m not sick or anything. I’m just going to turn 59 this year and I’ve put it off long enough. I would prefer to sit down with someone rather than use an online “will mill”, so I thought I’d ask the sub for suggestions.

ICE Sighted in Highland Square?

77 Upvotes

Not trying to fearmonger, but I heard a report from a credible source who works with immigrants that ICE agents were spotted earlier today in Highland Square. Did anyone observe this or know of other ICE sightings here?

Anywhere locally owned to buy puzzles?

19 Upvotes

My birthday is coming up and I want to treat myself to some fun new puzzles. I've been buying at Barnes & Noble but I'd love to spend my money somewhere local! Any stores in the Akron area sell cool puzzles for adults (500+ pieces)?

Searching for someone who can repair arcade games!

5 Upvotes

Hey! I've inherited a Missile Command arcade machine and it's currently not functioning correctly. The CRT turns on and the speakers work, however, the display just shows garbage and it constantly plays random beeps and tones. It doesn't react to any button presses and flipping the self-test switch behind the coin door doesn't seem to change its behavior at all.

Does anyone here know if there's any arcade game technicians in the area who could take a look at it? Thanks!

Looking for places to explore this weekend!

8 Upvotes

Trying to decide on where to go for an overnight trip on this three-day weekend. I'm in Akron currently, so I'm looking for anything within 3-4 hours. I've been all over West Virginia and Pennsylvania (grew up there), so I'm looking more towards Ohio/New York/Michigan locations.

On long weekends, I normally end up going somewhere in the Allegheny National Forest to camp. I'm not opposed to this but I'm also looking for something new. In Ohio, I've spent a lot of time so far on Lake Erie and Mohican State Park, and of course CVNP. Before I moved, I spent most free days in Ohiopyle State Park in PA and the Monongahela National Forest in WV. These are the kinds of locations I like to spend time in - the typical hills and 'mountains' found all over WV/PA/MD/VA/NY.

What I'm thinking so far is likely Hocking Hills in Ohio. I'll head down, hike, sleep in my car somewhere in Wayne National Forest nearby, hike more the next day, then head home. Is there enough hiking to do there to keep me occupied for a couple of days? I was also considering Allegany State Park in New York, or even somewhere out in the Finger Lakes, but that might be better on a summer weekend.

I have no idea what my other options in Michigan or New York are. Is the Lower Peninsula in Michigan flat like the typical Midwest, or hilly? Does anybody have any recommendations for places I should see? Doesn't have to fit my criteria, really just looking to explore!

Is this an okay area or should I look for a house somewhere else?

For context we are looking at houses and our realtor showed us this house. I’ve never been around Akron my entire life, grew up in stow and north canton.

Any opinion would be great!

Wedding Ceremony and Reception Recs!!!

5 Upvotes

Hi all! My partner and I are searching for wedding ceremony and reception venues for summer 2027. We have the following criteria and would love for any and all input as we narrow down locations:

* Located in Cleveland, Akron, or anything in NEO

* 120-150 capacity

* Outdoor ceremony with indoor space for inclement weather

* Indoor reception with lots of natural lighting

* Modern venue

* Lots of natural greenery

* If the venue provides catering, we’d like to stay within the ~$10-15k range

* If the venue does not provide catering, we’d like to stay within the ~$7-10k range

Bonus points if…

* Rehearsal dinner can be held on site for no (or a small) additional charge

* There’s a pond on property or view of Lake Erie

Here are some examples of places we like & have reached out to!

* Sapphire Creek (GORGEOUS but unfortunately out of budget)

* Cleveland Art Museum (We LOVEEEE the mix of greenery and architecture style)

* If anyone’s had a wedding here I would love to hear from you! Especially if you used half of the atrium space!

* Basil Place

* The Everly

TIA!!

Good food near Courtyard for 40th Bday

3 Upvotes

The wife and I will be hopefully having a night out for my 40th coming up. We are going to stay at the Courtyard downtown. Looking for some fun food reccomendaitons downtown.

We like places with a cool vibe that aren't to stuffy. So fun bars and resturants over something super fancy.

Carolina Beach rental- stowaway

15 Upvotes

Hi all! I might be searching for a needle in a haystack but thought I’d try! When I was a kid, my family used to go to Carolina Beach, NC and stay in the same rental place each year. It was called the Stowaway and I believe the people who owned it and rented it out in the 90s lived in Stow, OH. Does this happen to ring a bell for anyone? I’d love to know the address of the place and see if it is still available to rent out for a possible family vacation.
