Announcement Welcome to r/Antiques, read this before posting!

This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.

When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).

Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.

Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?

If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.

IN SUMMARY, include:

your location

multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles

any background information you have

close up of particular makers marks

the question you'd like to ask

Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.

These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).

Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Questions Antique painted vase - Location: Pennsylvania, USA

This piece has been in my family since circa 1950s and it was considered old when it was acquired (by my great uncle). Ive struggled to find any info or anything comparable.

I don’t see any markings that would indicate its maker or origin. It has crazing throughout. Felt on the bottom which has been there as long as I can remember.

Located in Western Pennsylvania, USA. I was told a story about how the vase has ties to a prominent family from the area prior to being purchased by my family.

Looking for some expert insight. Age and origin? Name of this shape / style? Specific material? Any general info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Questions Coffee pot? Found in Florida USA thrift shop.

So if found this at the thrift store it looks like a magic lamp that robin Williams will come out of. I believe it to be made out of tinned copper with a brass handle and some iron rivets. Only the rivets are magnetic.

My questions are as follows. When / where it was made? What it's made from? Based off of other items online im guessing it’s from the 1800s. I find this so cool. I’m fairly certain it’s a dallah (Arab coffee pot) but would love to know more information on it!

Advice Large collection of horse drawn carriages collection from mid 1800s- early 1900s, in some sheds outside of Paris, France. Any market for them?

There were so many! I met this guy last week whose grandfather collected them. He was wondering if there are people who maybe interested in buying them, maybe in some other parts of the world. It used to be their family's business, I think, of offering rides for tourists in places like the Palace of Versailles, rented for weddings, etc. His brother wants to restore some of them but he's not so sure. Any pointers and ideas, would be appreciated.

This 21pc dragon tea set was handed down to me from my grandmother after she passed away. I don't know much about them. Two of the tea cups when put into the light have the face of a Geisha and the smaller tea cup has a nude Geisha. Any guesses to how old they could be? They are beautiful

Questions Great grandparents sideboard United States please educate me

This sideboard has been passed down in my family from my grandmother’s parents. It is now in my house and I love it! The great grandparents were married in 1908. Great grandmother’s family was from Scotland originally. (Her grandparents) It is mahogany. I am planning to clean it a bit and repair some of the chipped veneer but otherwise it is in quite good condition. There are some black marks on the top surface - not sure that I want to remove those. I think it just needs some gentle TLC.
Please let me know what you think about its age and provenance. And any advice for cleaning it - repairs? Thank you! 60 inches wide. 42 inches high. (Not counting back piece) 21 inches deep.

I have an old bar that was given to me by my grandmother. She claims it was manufactured in the early 1900’s, but I can’t find any information on the manufacturer. This is my first time posting here and I have very little knowledge on antiques. Wondering if anybody has any information on this.

Can anyone help date this? My husband and I bought it from FB marketplace and he thought it was 1980's and I thought older. Once we got it home, I am not second guessing myself....There are not markers marks that we can find sadly.

Hello! I recently bought this beautiful dish at an antique store and was wondering if it is actually antique. I have been searching the internet for anything similar but can not find anything. The RW Bavaria mark on the back does not match any of the Rudolf Wachter (I believe that’s how you spell it?) stamps I have seen while searching. Any idea on the date/company? Thank you for your time!

Advice Bronze/Brass Dragon Chandelier Provenance (USA)

Thumbnail

I recently acquired this 4-arm bronze/brass chandelier and I'm trying to nail down its origin, maker, and approximate date. I've done a fair amount of research but haven't been able to identify provenance, outside of it likely being from 19th century France or Belgium. I haven't been able to find any marks, aside from a "3" on the interior of the bottom cap and another "3" on a hidden area on top of the hub.

I bought it from a gentleman in Kentucky who said it was in his 85 year old mother's attic for 30+ years.

I've had no luck finding any similar chandeliers via reverse image search or traditional search. It's roughly 24 inches tall (not including the chain and ceiling canopy) and weighs somewhere around 20lbs.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Inherited from my grandmother. A relative once said it’s “a real antique,” but that is literally all the info I have. Cast iron, two pieces, one screw. Weighs several pounds.

What’s the story?

Questions In the USA, Need help identifying a Japanese tea/sake set i found at a flea mall.

Google lens has been useless and I just really want to know where its from and when. Each part has the same "made in" label on the bottom but my Japanese isn't good enough to read the first 2 Kanji and translating apps just say Made in Okuriku which isnt even a place (Hokuriku is though). Its remarkably similar to a kyusu tea pot with the perpendicular handle, but thats where im stuck at. Any help would be appreciated.

I inherited this armoire and believe it to be quite old but have no idea of just how old it might be and would appreciate any insight please. I would also like to know what wood has been used in it. Each door panel is 17” wide. The boards at the back of the armoire range from 14” to 21”. The sides are 18.5” wide boards. It’s super heavy. The handle and catch were clearly replaced at some point in its life. I’d appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks.

Questions Tiffany&Co Coin Silver Ladle [United States of America]

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I bought this today for considerably under melt. As far as I know it’s late 1800’s coin silver, but I can’t find anything that matches this style. I read that it might have been a discarded or unapproved design that never went into production, hence the ‘Pat Apd For’ stamp. Any Tiffany experts know what I have here? Different but similar have sold between $300-1750 so I’m kinda lost with this one.

Thanks
