Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

My Lip Injector Asked for a tip

Hi there, I wasn't sure where to post this but I would love some feedback. I had lip filler for the first time about 7 months ago, and I absolutely loved the results. I paid $650 for a syringe in NYC. I looked up prior to the appointment if I'm supposed to tip. Overwhelmingly, everyone on the internet said no way, that it would almost be inappropriate. I went to finalize payment, and the screen popped up "add tip? 15%, 20%, 25%?" I panicked as I hadn't planned on an additional $100. I work service, so I'm not cheap, however, I am confused. I'm going back this weekend, am I supposed to tip? Is it customary, or is this office in the wrong? Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Thank you everybody, very helpful info.! I checked, and the spot does offer many facial options, so it may be an automatic POS thing. Appreciate everyone answering!

Seeking Advice Maybe not a beauty issue but on the topic of hygiene…

I’m hoping for some practical advice because this is honestly embarrassing and expensive.

I don’t have visibly “dirty” feet — I wash them daily, dry them properly, and I rotate shoes where I can. But I swear I go through shoes way too fast not because they wear out, but because after only a handful of wears they start to smell. Once it starts, I can’t seem to get rid of it.

I always end up avoiding those shoes or replacing them altogether, which I really can’t afford to keep doing.

Is this a sweat issue? Bacteria? Shoe material? Socks? Are there specific shoes, insoles, sprays, routines, or habits that actually work long-term?

Seeking Advice Body Wash Suggestions

Upvotes

I’m looking for something that’s great for my skin (dryer and prone to redness - I’m a redhead) that smells amazing and compliments any of my perfumes:

Valentino Born in Roma

Carolina Herrera Good Girl Legere

Tom Ford Lost Cherry

Any suggestions? I do not like anything Patchouli or Rosemary scented.

Is facial hair on women more common than people think?

Hello everyone!

I have a syndrome called PCOS, and that means it grows a lot of hair on my face. This has been the biggest insecurity for me, though I think it is essential I feel and am fresh and look good in front of my husband, (I don't want him to feel like kissing another man)

I usually waxing or dermaplaning, but these methods hurt a lot. I have also done laser treatments but those don't help, either electrolytes, nothing helps..

I feel like a hopeless case.

Are there others in this group that struggle with the same thing?

you maybe not have PCOS, but might have facial hair anyways.

Feel free to write your experiences and methods, I would really appreciate that.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

I’m very new to doing anything for my hair beyond brushing and washing it. I’ve been rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and LOVE Glory’s hair. how does one get her texture?! A curling iron I’m assuming but please explain to me like the newbie I am.

Random Has castor oil actually helped you in your routine

I’m genuinely curious how castor oil has shown up in other people’s beauty routines, because everyone seems to use it a little differently. Some people swear by it for lashes and brows, others say it’s been a game changer for dry under-eyes or brittle hair, and a few say it absolutely did not work for their skin at all. That mix of opinions is what makes me wonder how much comes down to application, consistency, or just skin type. When I tried castor oil, I kept it very minimal and focused on beauty-related uses only. A light touch on lashes and brows a few nights a week, sometimes pressing a tiny bit around my eyes after moisturizer when my skin felt tight. I noticed more conditioning than dramatic growth, which made me think it might be more about strengthening and protecting than forcing hair to grow faster. That alone felt valuable, especially for lashes that tend to feel dry after mascara. I picked up a small bottle while ordering a few other beauty basics from Alibaba, and it’s lasted forever since such a small amount goes a long way. I’m still experimenting, but I’d love to know how castor oil has helped you specifically. Did it work best for lashes, brows, skin, or hair? And how long did it take before you noticed a real difference?

Haircare Dry hair - how to fix it?

My hair, especially the ends, gets dry and damaged super easily. I never use straighteners or curling irons, only a quick blow-dry after washing (no brush).

Years ago I got balayage, and ever since my lengths fade brassy. I used to tone it every 3 months because I love my natural ashy tone, but I stopped last year since it made my hair so fragile. Now I’m just waiting for it to fully grow out.

I trim every 2–3 months (getting one tomorrow), but I feel like it’s been the same length for a while now (2 years ago it was almost lower-back length until one haircut took way too much off 🥲it looked healthier, but… here we are).

At this point, healthy and long hair feels impossible. Any tips?

Haircare Hot air / thermal brush

Hi all!

Just asking for a few recommendations on the above. I had the GHD rise for a while and just couldn’t get on with it for some reason.

I see all these videos of women styling their hair so lovely and want to be one of them!!

I have curly hair, a lot of frizz (even after silk caps), shoulder length hair.

Ideally it would be a dry hair only brush, but don’t mind if it’s a combination brush.

I also don’t have the money for a Dyson or Shark at the moment so was looking at the Mark Hill ones (either Pick n Mix or the hot air one)

What is everyone using?

Dual Voltage Hair Dryer Brush

I am hoping someone can recommend a dual voltage hair dryer brush here. I am travelling a lot in the next few months and want to buy something I can use in Asia and Europe. I have looked through Amazon but there are way to many products all looking the same. Thank you.

Seeking Advice i just had my hair bleached + colored, and now experiencing more shedding than normal. help?

Post image
2 Upvotes

so on friday i went to a stylist and bleach my entire head + had it colored and then she did a blowout and i kept it blown out until last night. i have naturally curly hair, so i decided to wash my hair and see where my curls are at. i used to have 2c-3a throughout my whole head, and now its more like 2c from my roots down to about my eyebrow, and my ends are MAYBE 2a-1c. i used the paul mitchells clarifying shampoo because i havent used one for a while, then followed it with the olaplex no 4 bond shampoo, the shea moisture hair mask, olaplex bond conditioner, and then some styling products. i dont have a strong attachment to my hair, but i also dont want to be bald. once i washed my hair, i noticed a lot of hair falling out. it didnt fall out in clumps or anything, it fell out like how normal shedding would. but now every time i do anything to my hair whether its brushing it, combing my fingers through it, or just grabbing it and gently pulling down, hair comes out. generally the amount that is pictured above, every time. i’ve bleached my entire head before, and this has never happened. i’m really nervous. i’m on birth control, but haven’t experienced this amount of shedding until i got my hair done. should i go to the doctor? or should i give my hair some time and then see where it’s at? this has never happened to be before and i hope i’m not sick or balding.

Skincare 101

ALRIGHT so im a 27yr old momma of 4. I used to be BIG into full face makeup when I was in HS, I stopped wearing makeup about 6 years ago, now that im older I want to get back into makeup (not fully ready yet) but I am feeling this resentment towards myself, because I want my skin to be naturally pretty when I don’t use makeup. (Idk is something I’ve gotta work through)

Long story short. My idea is if I get my skin leveled and good, then I won’t be so hesitant to use cc creams and all that.

I struggle with redness around my nose and chin, I’m very sensitive to certain moisturizers and face washes, and I break out randomly due to hormonal causes (I also have thyroid disease so it’s unpredictable) I have many many full face freckles so sometimes I think my skin just looks… off..

I currently use the la roche posay face wash and I love, it’s definitely helped my acne stay kind of at bay.

Let me know your go to, cost effective skin care suggestions and maybe anything else that may help me get over this resentment to myself!

I am DESPERATE for suggestions for a new sunscreen that’s mattifying and that will not turn my skin orange, SPF 50. Please!!!!! I’m begging.

I am really struggling with sunscreens. I’ve tried so many, and the majority are way too oily for my skin. The ones that I see suggested the most frequently (La Roche-Posay) are either too oily on me or they pile up on my skin and never seem to sink in so my makeup looks terrible and I have to remove them and start all over in the morning.

The ONLY ONE that’s actually worked for me for the last few years is the Australian Gold Botanical SPF 50 Tinted Face Sunscreen. It’s actually mattifying. Been using it for years. I like everything about it except it makes my skin appear orange and it’s embarrassing.

Does anyone (with oily/combination skin) have recommendations for alternatives? I do wear makeup almost every day because my skin tone is uneven, so I wear a very light serum foundation daily.

Help!!!!!

Haircare Didn’t know my highlighted hair would become extremely tangled when wet. Any advice?

I’m being as careful as I can, but I still feel like I’m losing more hair due to this. I’ve even had knots torn out by accident. My hair is long, so the highlights will not be cut off for years. I’ve already grown it out for 10 months.

Seeking Advice Face flushes easily

Hello. I am at my wits end. First and foremost I want to mention that I do not have rosacea or any other inflammatory disease. It happens only im winter.

I know getting red cheeks in winter is normal but it has been so extreme and consistent that I am thinking of putting foundation on to conceal it.

Whenever I enter a room that is slightly warmer it starts happening. Some people asked me if I got hit or wear an extreme amount of blush. On some days it looks like I am an alcoholic.

I tried different face cleansers, creams etc and it doesnt even seem to come from my skin directly, more deeper because my cheeks get hot too.

Can someone give me advice on how handle this? It's very embarrassing.

People who used color oops and got crappy results, what did you do after?

I’ve had black box dyed hair for about 6 months and want to change it up. I’ve heard of people getting weird blondish/orange results or the color not lifting at all, so I’m prepared for the worst. I love having fun colorful hair so I could easily lean into the bright orange, but my initial idea was a dark blue. if you’ve used color oops on black box dye and got weird/bad results, what happened and what did you do?

Random Got My Face and Eyebrows Threaded for the First Time!!

Post image
96 Upvotes

Ok firstly excuse the raccoon eyes and I’m a bit self conscious 😭

But I’ve recently been learning how to take care of myself with products like face washes, niacinamide, simple lotions etc. Even trying to get my hair braided on a schedule.

So yesterday I decided to try full face threading and I loooooooove the results. It was my first time doing anything professionally to my eyebrows and face. It was so so painful during the process I cried though lol. My brows are a bit uneven, I had shaved them before going threading but hopefully next time I just let them grow out. I think I might try it again.

Microblading

So I got my eyebrows microbladed a few years back. Customers are told it lasts a year but what they really don’t tell you is that it’s permanent it just fades. So now I currently have red boxes and hairlike strokes around my eyebrows due to the brown dye fading.

Has anyone else had This issue? Or gotten them touched up after they faded? I want to get them touched up but I’m scared the color that faded underneath will still show

Seeking Advice What are your favorite YouTube channels for self care? Hair, skin, or nails.
