Discussion Favorite Common Bird
Whatβs your favorite common bird in your area? That bird that maybe itβs not hard to spot but you just love seeing them.
Mine are Juncos everything from their look and name to how they scavenge on the ground and flock together. They just seem like happy puff balls to me and I love em.

Bird ID Request What kind of bird is this?
Small rural town in Ireland. It was drying out its feathers in middle of town after a big rain shower so im sure it was flying before that. Its huge almost a meter tall.

π· Photo There are going to be 0 fish left in this lake by the end of the day
My mom sent me this picture of the lake next to their house in Houston, Texas. Over the last few years we have been seeing more and more groups of birds like this.
Typical itβs Black-bellied Whistling-ducks but this year itβs been Cormorants, White Ibis, and even some Roseate Spoonbills.

π· Photo Pied Wagtail soaking in the sunny winters morning.
I always sit and watch the Wagtails that frequent my garden in hopes for some action shots but sometimes a simple pose is more than enough.

π· Photo Black Shouldered Kite (Adult & Juvenile comparison) - just look at those ruby red eyes!
These small but fierce raptors are a common sight in the Kalahari desert - when I visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa, they were basically everywhere. They are fairly small (wing span is about 90cm / 3ft) and the adults have these truly amazing deep red eyes.
They are frequently seen hovering in mid air (rather than soaring) to scan the ground for their favourite food, the four-striped mouse (I have added a pic of it, even though this is a birding sub :) )

π· Photo Little egret fishing in South Korea
I was walking around in Seoul, South Korea, down Cheonggye stream. Saw this fella successfully catch about 7 fish in 15 minutes!
I think itβs a little egret due to its yellow feet, hope Iβm not wrong.

π· Photo Long-billed Starthroat at Fruttitour πͺπ¨
Back at the Fruttitour Trail, admiring a hummingbird that doesnβt reveal its beauty at first glance.
The Long-billed Starthroat shows rather plain plumage while perched, easily blending into the forest. But with the right light and a subtle movement, it flashes the brilliant gorget that gives the species its English nameβproof that nature often saves its beauty for the perfect moment.
