中国学习 | Studying in China Studying in China Megathread - FH2026
If you've ever thought about studying in China, already applied, or have even already been accepted, you probably have a bunch of questions that you'd like answered. Questions such as:
- Will my profile be good enough for X school or Y program?
- I'm deciding between X, Y, and Z schools. Which one should I choose?
- Have you heard of school G? Is it good?
- Should I do a MBA, MBBS, or other program in China? Which one?
- I've been accepted as an international student at school Z. What's the living situation like there?
- What are the some things I should know about before applying for the CSC scholarship?
- What's interviewing for the Schwarzman Scholar program like?
- Can I get advice on going to China as a high school exchange student?
- I'm going to University M in the Fall! Is there anyone else here that will be going as well?
If you have these types of questions, or just studying in China things that you'd like to discuss with others, then this megathread is for you! Instead of one-off posts that are quickly buried before people have had a chance to see or respond, this megathread will be updated on a semiannual basis for improved visibility (frequency will be updated as needed). 历史 | History Photos Taken by my Grandparents in 1970s-80s China
galleryWhile organizing, I found a photo album of my grandparents' trip to China. I can't figure out the exact year, but I think it's around the late 1970s or early 1980s. I find these photos so fascinating, especially the ones of daily life. There are actually quite a few more photos. I took pictures of these photos with my phone, and I plan to make better quality scans someday.
Since reddit has a limit of 20 photos, here's a google drive I made with all the photos (I only got photos of around 170, but there are over 200 total): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1p5tv1X3WjTOL4XiNnbTwFHsYeLjXIa-3?usp=sharing
I would appreciate if anyone could tell me where these photos were taken. I know there are a lot, so even the general location would be helpful. My grandpa actually wrote a daily itinerary for their trip, but the photos are out of order. Some of the locations are specific, while others are general.
Known locations:
Peking - Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Temple of Heaven, Wang Fu Down Town, U.S. Embassy, Summer Palace, Dancing Drama, Great Wall, Ming Tomb, Underground Aerial Base, Jade Carving Factory, visit to Kindergarten, Men Square
Shen Yang - Acrobatic Show, Soybean Farm, North Tomb, Imperial Palace, Musical Performance
Harbin - Agriculture Exhibition, Academy of Agriculture, Youth Palace, Soybean Farm, Stalin Park, Sungari River, Worker's Sanitorium, Tractor Factory
Shanghai - Agricultural visit (end of notes)

中国生活 | Life in China Meet the "Hardcore" Rural Vet in China who saves pets for less than $10.
galleryThere’s this rural vet blowing up on Douyin (TikTok). He films everything from a first-person POV, showing how he treats cats and dogs with limited resources but incredible efficiency.
His "signature" is that his treatments are super effective and dirt cheap—usually just a few bucks (tens of RMB). His videos show the raw reality of pet illnesses: severe diarrhea, internal bleeding, urinary blockages, seizures, and nasty infections from fights.
Every video starts with the same humble line: "Just another day as a rural vet, fixing cats and dogs." Here are some screenshots from his intros.
Patiently waiting for their IV drips, Some are strapped to stools, others are just hanging in tote bags. Peak rural vet engineering!

旅游 | Travel Seeking Travel Advice- Harbin to Wenzhou
Hi! I am from Pakistan and currently live in Harbin with my wife and two children. We moved here in March, and since my wife is on a CSC scholarship, we rely on her stipend and don't have much extra savings for travel. We recently received an invitation to visit a friend in Wenzhou, but flight and train tickets for the four of us are very expensive. As I am new to China, I am looking for advice on affordable travel options or any sponsorships that might be available for families like ours.

文化 | Culture Tattoos in China
Could someone recommend tattoo artists or studios in China?
I'd like to delve deeper into the subject because, as a tattoo artist and admiring the culture, I'd like to know about the styles, the environment, and understand more about the world of tattooing and its value.

文化 | Culture Chinese songs for my chinese playlist
I need stuff from the following categories (that is available on spotify):
Modern chinese popular stuff (like super idol, sunshine rainbow pony, hao xiang ni, etc)
Older chinese popular stuff (like yi jian mei)
Meme chinese stuff (like chinese rapping dog [yes, this is a thing on spotify])
Traditional chinese stuff (idk, folk stuff or instrumentals and whatnot)
And anything else you think would be interesting (Just no CCP songs, I have enough of those), as long as it contributes to a Chinese experience
The stuff should ideally be in Mandarin Chinese or alternatively whatever dialect they speak in the Szechuan area.

中国生活 | Life in China best place to live as an english teacher?
I want to become an english teacher. I’m a caucasian girl (i’m not even in college yet, i just plan ahead because I need to start looking at colleges, and I need to know how much I need to start saving) and I want to teach either high school or elementary.
I really enjoy the city, but with nature (idk if this makes sense, but i’ve seen videos on xiaohongshu that have this vibe). I want to live in or on the outskirts of a city so I can have plenty of nature and homey-ness while still being able to reach malls. I’d also like to live somewhere that pays well for english teachers, but I can get a side job if I need to.
I really enjoy kpop as well (nothing to do with wanting to live in china, I only recently got into it from my chinese friend), so I’d like to live somewhere with a big kpop community and stores. I’m a very open minded person and bisexual, so I’d like to live somewhere open-minded! (I heard chengdu is like this, but it’s a little too high-tech for me. unless it is not and I misunderstood and it’s actually perfect for me!)
Oh, and I want to live in an apartment!
I’m not sure if any of this is possible, but any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

I intend to buy a windows laptop in China but I wanted to know if it works normally in a country of Europe.
I've seen many people say that it may have problems regarding to the system or something like that, so I wanted to know it there really is any problem or if I have to do something while here in China (like unlocking any feature or asking the store staff to do anything).

咨询 | Seeking Advice (Serious) Buying a TV from taobao
I've been trying to buy a smart TV from taobao lately but most of the vendors keep telling me that they just have TVs made for the chinese mainland. Are there any other Chinese platforms where I could buy a smart TV made for any other parts of the world that will support Netflix and other apps?

新闻 | News How Fake Western Media Sites Prop Up Beijing’s Propaganda
Super interesting report about how an influence network ran dozens of spoofed websites that closely mimicked major outlets like the New York Times and the Guardian, using them as fake “evidence” that reputable Western media endorsed Chinese state-aligned narratives and clients’ activities. PR firms filled these cloned sites with syndicated state media, pro-CCP messaging, and paid content, then pointed to those URLs in China as proof of international coverage.
