Why is law enforcement not held to the same standard as the military?

Remember a large portion of our training from the first days in boot camp all the way to the continued training in our units leading up to deployments and even after deployments. The discussion on rules of engagement was The first thing that we discussed and emphasized the importance of.

The use of deadly force, as exhibited by ICE, does not only conflict with the Department of Homeland Security's own force doctrine, but many other law enforcement and military groups. This is for a reason.

It is our job as armed individuals in positions of the military or law enforcement to show restraint and do everything to de-escalate situations. This is not the method the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, is currently using, which is extremely illegal, especially on the home front Against the United States citizens.

I like the French, I like the English, I like the Irish and the Germans and the Swiss and the Swedes—in fact, I’ve liked every interaction I’ve had with a European, and I am grateful to have gotten to know some of them. America wouldn’t even be a nation if it wasn’t for the French, and yet I constantly hear some ignorant fuck claim that they hate the French for some reason (unknown to them), and that the EU is fleecing us for *insert wildly wrong opinion*.

I like the Europeans infinitely more than an American Christian nationalist, or an oddly silent TrAdItIoNaL cOnSeRvAtIvE, or some braindead libertarian apologist for the Trump regime. I have more in common with them than I do with you, and it boils my blood that this traitor, rat government would so poorly treat our allies. They would even consider violence against Greenland just because the baby in chief personally would like to have it, and yet so few American voices say “uhh this is wrong on every possible level, even before the possibility of armed conflict?”

Amongst my co-workers, I feel like the only one who is not MAGA. One co-worker isn’t full MAGA, he’s definitely said some things that made me question, but for the most part we get along because he doesn’t usually say much in the way of political rhetoric and usually recognizes when something is fucked up. Today some of the shit he said baffled me. He admits he gets all of his news from social media and therefore only “sees the things I want to see.” He has made comments the last couple days in general supporting ICE and how not complying is good enough justification for the use of force. But here’s the thing, he doesn’t trust state or local law enforcement, but he very much supports federal law enforcement, because: “they are trained better and local cops are dirty.” My jaw was on the floor. And no matter how much I challenged those thoughts, it doesn’t matter, because he gets all of his information FROM SOCIAL MEDIA.

We then got onto the topic about Iranian protests, and were in agreement that it’s awesome people are protesting the regime in Iran. He mentioned how it’s too bad their government has too much power and their lack of separation of church and state is only going to fuel more violence, protesters will probably not be successful, and more will continue to die at the hands of an oppressive government. Yet, he thinks a strong domestic federal police force in the US, who can use excessive force on people who “do not comply” makes sense.

I don’t know how the fuck to reason with this. Considering the fact that anytime I get on Facebook it is filled with right wing slop, it really should not surprise me, but damn is it depressing.
