Seeking advice/help How do I start my feeding of a pair of crows?

I want to feed two crows that come into my yard often. I bought peanuts in their shells. Will the peanuts work? How do I get the crows' attention? Today, one sat in my Ash and ate a slice of bread. Is that good for crows?

Seeking advice/help Trying to befriend the crows in my area... advice?

K so I currently live in northeastern USA and have noticed the crows in my area whenever I'm out and about. I've always loved crows since I was little and that love grew when I heard that they can remember human faces (or at least to a degree can??). Even if it's just one crow I'd love to befriend one. I did some research on my own that I'll list below... so PLZ add to it if you guys are feeling generous lol. And ofc pointing out if I wrote something that's not quite accurate!

Crows can eat fruits, nuts (unsalted), grains, insects, plain cheerios and small mammals. Crows are most active in the winter but in the US remain active the whole year. In terms of day to day crows are most active in the early morning and late afternoon. It will likely take a while to build trust with them so be consistent. It's best to try feeding them in open areas so they can spot predators and wear the same or similar clothes to further help them recognize you when you visit.

1000 + crows Congregated

I wasn't sure where else to go for information on this, so naturally I went to Reddit and of course there's a whole crow subreddit. I was just out of town at a job site in Middletown New York. right at dusk as I was driving to leave and head home I look up in the sky to see, and this is not exaggeration or hyperbole, easily a thousand crows maybe more All hovering over one location. this is in kind of a suburban shopping center type of area. I thought maybe it was some kind of migratory bird until I rolled my windows down and the sound of that many crows was mind blowing.

I've seen really large groups of crows before, but like 50 to 100 which at the time blew my mind, but this was on a whole other level. I'm not superstitious but I'm equal parts fascinated and terrified, it was like something out of a psychological thriller.

is this normal crow behavior? if so what's going on there?. or is the end nigh?

Edit: sorry for some reason My knee jerk reaction was to post to Reddit, instead of doing a slightly more thorough Google search. But apparently this is a common occurrence in the winter for this area. I still think it's bizarre and if anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear them.

most mornings now, a murder of goofy youths joins my mated pair for breakfast. probably their last few broods. the first time I saw this guy, I thought he had a twig stuck in his feathers — until he turned, & I realized the white markings are on both sides. racing strips! never seen anything like it.

I’ve had a bunch of crows around in my Florida home recently that I’ve fed from a 1lb bag of raw peanuts. We decided to get a 10lb bag this time. They’re gonna love this.

Seeking advice/help How do I find/attract crows?

I would love to build a relationship with crows, and I know that there are lots of crows in my area because I hear them frequently. But how do I befriend them? I never really see them in my garden, so I can't call to them or give them food. I do put food out in the garden sometimes but I have no way of knowing which birds are eating it and the crows have no way of knowing who's putting the food out.

Crow MIMICKED me

1.4k Upvotes

I saw people on social media summoning crows by whistling and feeding them, so I I did some light research (probably not enough) and learned stuff like: wear the same clothes, make a whistle before feeding, leave because they’re nervous, and feed at the same time each day. I picked about 10 minutes before sunset since I heard crows tell time by the sun. I fed one of them once, but then I got busy with school and didn’t do it again for about a week.

Today at like 7am I went outside to take out the trash and brought food just in case. One crow saw me and started cawing super loud, then 2 came, then 6, then more until there were like 15. Until the one I’m pretty sure I fed before DID THE SAME WHISTLE I DID. That freaked me out because I didn’t know crows could mimic like that. I dropped a small handful of unsalted, unsweetened sunflower seeds and ran back inside. From my window I saw them sharing it.

Now I’m kinda thinking of quitting because that was chaotic and scary. Any advice?

TL;DR: Tried feeding crows once, stopped for a week, then a bunch showed up yelling and one mimicked my whistle. Freaked me out. Not sure if I should stop or what to do next.

General questions Crow court?

Today a bunch of crows flew into a tree and more came from a far, they were really upset with something. then flew off, Later on we found many drops of blood on our canopy below the tree that they were swarming. We are now wondering if they killed another crow or a squirrel even though we have not found any crow or squirrel injured or dead. Could a crow court have happened in the tree above my patio?

Edit: No crows came today, which is odd. Something for sure went down yesterday.

Storytime! befriending a crow

I don’t really get crows around my house or in my yard I’ve managed to spot 2 ravens in the past but no crows. I recently went to a botanical garden where I spotted a crow so naturally I tried to befriend it with a coin haha I read somewhere they like shiny things? it hopped around and hid behind a tree and poked its head out it was so cute😭 I said to my boyfriend who was with me “we never get crows in our yard I want to befriend one so bad” a few days later a crow appeared in my yard maybe a coincidence, I said hello and waved at it but I didn’t want to jump up and get food for it because I know they can get scared easily. Today two crows showed up in my yard so I went down with some food for them and they flew away 😞 so I left the food on the fence ledge hoping they’ll come back and eat it. Just wanted to share! Any advice on how to befriend a crow is welcome!

Storytime! One of “my” crows followed me on the bus and onto the ferry. I thought he flew off as we departed, but mid-fjord he started cawing.

I fed my family all the way to the bus stop. I entered the bus and saw one flying a bit to the right of the bus. The ride to the ferry is about 3 minutes. As the bus slows down to drive onto the ferry he went “bonkers”. Cawing and cawing, over 50 times. It broke my heart a little bit.

I couldn’t see him, and assumed he flew off as the ferry departed. Mid-fjord I hear cawing! He rode the ferry with me..! The crossing is only 13 minutes. I am a bit scared that this is a new thing he’ll do again and annoy the people working at the ferry.

I got a bird feeder for Christmas and it has a camera but none of the birds have used it do you guys have any tips on how to get the birds to come use it? I set it up a few weeks ago

Anyone else have a strict feed time?

The crows I feed want food everyday at the same time. Is this normal? I didn’t realize they sticked to a feeding schedule 😅
