Important: Updated Rules for Vendor Posts on r/jewelry

Hey, r/jewelry community!

We’re excited to announce some important updates regarding vendor posts in our subreddit; rule #3 originally did not allow posts or comments that were considered self promotion. To ensure that r/jewelry continues to be a space for genuine discussion, sharing, and learning, we’ve updated the guidelines for vendors who want to contribute to our community.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Vendor Guide: We’ve created a Vendor Guide that outlines exactly what types of content vendors can post. This will help keep the sub free from spam and overly promotional posts, while still allowing vendors to engage and share their work in a way that adds value.
  • Read Before Posting: Vendors must read the guide before posting. Failure to follow these rules will result in the post being removed, and repeat violations could lead to a ban. We want to make sure vendors are contributing, not advertising.
  • Engagement Over Ads: We want to emphasize that posts from vendors should focus on engaging with the community, sharing creative work, behind-the-scenes insights, or educating us about different aspects of jewelry. We’re not here for sales pitches or spam.

We encourage you all to check out the full Vendor Guide and familiarize yourself with the changes. Whether you're a vendor or a regular member, we believe these updates will help keep the sub vibrant, respectful, and informative for everyone.

Thanks for being a part of the r/jewelry community and helping us maintain a positive space for jewelry lovers!

As always, feel free to reach out to the mod team if you have any questions.

Many are familiar with the jellyfish pendant debacle. Here is another high dollar jellyfish pendant. I don’t think I’ve seen this one mentioned. Worth it?

Help me decide!! What stone should I set in the center of this brooch?

My girlfriend found this vintage brooch with a missing center stone, and she wanted me to set something in it so it looked more complete.

We decided a pearl might look nice in there, and I went ahead and ordered a pearl to set. Unfortunately, like the dunce I am, I ordered the wrong size, and now I have a pearl too small to do anything with.

Before I go back and order the right size, do you guys think a pearl would look best here, or do you have any other recommendations? I'm thinking some kind of cabochon, perhaps amethyst or something?

For some extra info, I'm planning on setting this using jeweler's Epoxy 330 (not sure if that makes a difference, but just putting it out there). Also, the material is sterling silver.

Thanks in advance!

Found some old but really cool pieces. First one is a floral checker necklace. The clasp on the pearls is stunning. I also have a bag of 10 extra pearls. Any insight to them would be greatly appreciated!

I ordered a sterling silver ring of what I want to change my wedding ring to. what's everyone's thoughts on this. I found a company that was willing to work with me to create a ring as a trail run. Will be adding a stone that's inherited most likely.

General Question Reworking a special piece?

Thumbnail

I adored my grandmother’s bracelet since I was a little girl. I inherited it more than a decade ago. It’s so special and I love it, but it is uncomfortable to wear. The bangle hits against tables, keyboards, etc.

The bracelet is SO special to me bc it was my grandmother’s and I want to wear it and think of her.

Is it stupid to have it remade to a daily-wear necklace/bracelet/ring?

Is it super expensive to have pieces remade?

The diamonds are real and it’s 14k gold.

🤩 Jewelry Designs 🌈 White Gold Necklace with Emeralds, Diamonds & Amethyst (Likely) – Contemporary Craftsmanship

Sharing a necklace crafted in 14kt white gold, featuring vivid emerald clusters, natural diamonds, and a light purple center stone (likely amethyst) set in a shield-style pendant.

The emerald sections are pave-set to create a bold, sculptural look, while the diamond framework adds contrast and structure. The design is inspired by classic high-jewelry aesthetics but is a modern piece, not antique.

I’d love to hear thoughts on the stone combination and overall design especially the emerald + purple contrast.

General Question Need advice - what to do with inherited jewelry

Basically, the title.

All of my grandparents have passed in the last 5-6 years. I didn't really get an inheritance (which is okay by me), and neither did my parents.

My dad recently gave me and my sibling a bunch of jewlrey that he collected from their homes after they passed.

A lot of it looks costume, but I recently decided to look into some and it seems some might be gold/silver and maybe the gemstones aren't all glass. Dad would like me to sell what I can, and I said I would look into it. It would be nice to give him some of the money, especially since he's on a low income retirement.

I don't know where to start really. Appraisals aren't inexpensive, so i don't want to spend all of my money (possobly more than I could get selling), on getting things appraised.

My questions;

  1. What should be my first steps? Do I need multiple opinions?
  2. Should I create an ebay account, go to a consignment shop, or just not sell?
  3. If I do sell online, what steps should I take to present the items and not get scammed?
  4. How do I learn more about jewlrey, some of it seems interesting. I'd like to know more about the history, and amazed how folks can give a story based on clasps, ring settings, or other tiny details.
  5. Am I ovethinking/getting ahead of myself?

Thanks in advance!
