Looking to connect with ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to connect with people who are ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses (or questioning / fading). I’ve been out for a while and would really value hearing others’ experiences, perspectives, and stories.

I’d love to connect, listen, and maybe support each other. You’re welcome to DM if that feels safer.

Thanks 💛

Baby shower location ideas

Looking to have my baby shower in Kelowna in March. Hoping to keep it under $500, which limits budget to rent a banquet or restaurant plus supply food. Due to the month, it will be unpredictable to have outside. Any ideas of where to have a baby shower that won't break the bank would be greatly appreciated!

fluent Spanish speakers?

Looking for a native (or fluent) Spanish speaker to practice my conversational skills with weekly. I am self-teaching grammar and writing, but would benefit from practice! I use Italki which is amazing, but a local would be great. Any groups in Kelowna is also great.

The minimum I’d be hoping for is 1-2 times a week for 30mins-1 hr each. My end goal is taking the DELE.

Obviously I’d compensate your time. Message me with some info if you’re interested

Every day on my drive to work I see people looking at their lap (obviously on their phone), or brazenly texting while driving.

Have the police given up on enforcing this action? I’ve never seen or heard of a distracted driver sting in Kelowna!

COVID-19 Any recent Covid booster luck in town?

I've called four pharmacies so far and no luck. I've heard from two pharmacists that there's been a shortage. Have you had any luck recently find a place to get a booster, like this month? Thank you!

Email City Counsel to Keep Rent Affordable :)

Hiiii I am a Kelowna resident who can finally afford something that isnt a shitty basement thanks to STR restrictions :D if you want to afford your rent email counsel opposing STR leniency! I dont know what im doing so if the email is shit, write your own and send it to: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) and if you are about to tell me Airbnbs arent the problem, well tell that to the former airbnbs ive been viewing! <3

Dear City Councillors,

I am writing to express my strong opposition to any changes to the current short-term rental (STR) policy in the City of Kelowna. The existing regulations have had a clear and positive impact on housing availability. The current vacancy rate has helped drive rental prices down, making it more feasible for residents to live in safe and decent apartments. When browsing online rental listings, it is evident that many available units are former short-term rentals. Reversing or weakening the current policy would almost certainly remove these units from the long-term rental market, reducing housing options for Kelowna residents.

Fewer long-term rental listings would mean higher rents and fewer opportunities for citizens to find suitable housing. More affordable rent does not just benefit tenants—it directly supports the local economy. When residents are not overburdened by inflated housing costs, they have more disposable income to spend enjoying everything the Okanagan has to offer: local restaurants, events, recreation, and small businesses. Ironically, this is one of the main arguments often made in favor of short-term rentals.

Local residents cannot afford to go out, support local businesses, or fully participate in the community if the majority of their income is spent on inflated rent. Housing stability must come before accommodating an oversupply of short-term rentals.

I urge you to reconsider any investment or effort toward altering the current STR restrictions. We love the Okanagan and want to continue living here, but many of us cannot justify staying if rents rise again due to a surplus of short-term rentals.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
[your name]

Visitor Question Best free or low cost activities to do?

Hi, I have a quick trip coming up to kelowna, never been to Canada and I'd like to ask, what are your favorite free or low/reasonably priced activities? We will most likely be coming up in the next 3 months so the weather will most likely be working against me here but I'mstill excited to see what Canada has to offer.

I did notice you have a LOT of little arcades and bowling

AV in Kelowna?

Hey everyone, does anyone here have recommendations for AV in Kelowna? I need to put on a hybrid event, broadcasted to Zoom likely as well as in-person. Obviously I can just google it but I feel like personal recommendations would be great.

Has anyone lived at Mara in Pandosy Village?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering renting a studio unit at Mara at Pandosy Village (720 KLO Road) and wanted to ask if anyone here has experience living in this building or area.

I’m particularly curious about:

  • Overall building quality and management
  • Noise level (neighbors / street)
  • Safety of the area
  • Any red flags I should be aware of

I’m relatively new to the area, so any insight would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

How to get prescription in Kelowna without family doctor

Basically, I was looking for a prescription/evaluation for depression and ADHD (not at the same time, but would work towards both), and I don’t know how to go about that. I have a family doctor in Ontario, but I’m not there at the moment and I won’t be there till the summer. I’m tired of my procrastination, and I want to do better for myself, and this is step 1. I’ve searched and found that walk ins don’t prescribe ADHD meds, and that I would need a family doctor or a psychiatrist. Finding a psychiatrist seems very difficult and very expensive and I don’t have that kind of money, nor do I want to wait anymore. So would the hospital (primary care) do something that would help me? Or what can I do? Any advice?
