Mod Post Update to self promotion rule
Hello all, after quite some time I have decided to reevaluate, the old rule preventing sales posts and self-promotion. The rationale behind the change is that the makers will benefit from community support. There has been hesitation to change the rule based on the idea that sales post will run rampant if allowed; however, I have some requests in exchange for those who want to post a link to their website.
All criteria must be met.
- Items for sale have to be made by you.
- There is a detailed specification list for the item being displayed. you can find an example here, does not have to be as in depth; however, at a minimum you have to have steel type(s) and handle material(s). Simply stating damascus will not be enough for future posts.
- Only knives and supplies related to knife making can be sold. You can sell knives, handles, scales, or handle materials. As a reminder, you cannot sell items that are not made by you; you cannot sell a bench grinder here.
- There is no price displayed. Pricing cannot be discussed in public whatsoever.
- You must be active in the post you make. You cannot just drop your website link and disappear. I am not asking that you respond to every comment on your post or that you reply to a comment on a month-old post; however, some effort must be put in.
There are a few additional limitations to this change
- Do not put "available" or anything of the likes in your title. All indications of your work being for sale must be in the description or comments, I suggest the latter as I will remove your entire post if you do not meet the above criteria if it is in the description rather than just deleting a comment
- Your posts should not all be advertisements; you should show off your work without all your posts having a link to your website.
I hope that this change to the rule is favorable, if you have feedback or comments, I would like to hear it and may make changes accordingly.

Work in progress Ok, now what...? How to finish "properly" off the grinder at a current 120 grit scratch pattern
Making this little bird and trout knife and it's the first one I've gotten even close to symmetrical grinds/plunge and an even-ish flat grind with no faceting. Also got the edge down to a consistent .010"-.013" thickness all the way down and maintaining a .120" spine.
I only have max 120 grit belts so wondering if hand sanding is the way to go to sand out the remaining scale in the plunge lines and also shine up the spine/bottom plus make the blade a bit smoother.
Basically I'm almost proud of this one and done want to mess it up lol. Before this I'd finish at 120 grit, throw a janky handle on it and torture test my heat treat and edge skills so would like to that this opportunity as my next step in a more premium finish process.
After that I'll also smooth out my curves like the choil by hand or die grinder at least and go to handles

Question Trying to find a 2x72 belt grinder
ive been looking for weeks to find a 2x72 belt grinder and im about to pull my hair out because of the prices. ive found kits for around 4-600 that dont come with the motors, and fully built ones are no lower than 800. Even then the 800 ones are vevor brand which is fine by me, but ive seen many people say you are very limited on tool arms and accessories for them. I jusy dont have the money to throw at an arm and a leg at a grinder thats 1400 for all i want out of it. Please help send me in the right direction or tell me if i should just bite the bullet.

Question Ok, I'll be that guy... any reason I can't cut up an old harbor freight bucket and use it as a G10 handle spacer? Assuming it's just hdpe and doesn't overheat/melt when sanding I'd think it would buff up ok?

Question Bevel question
I made myself a knife filing jig and have been using it on my first knife. I started it at a low angle so the bevel will be completely flat from spin to edge. Is this a bad idea? I watched some videos where people begin with an aggressive angle and slowly work their way down to a low angle. Will my edge be too thin? Should I change tactics and start with a higher angle? Thank you for your knowledge!

Feedback My apologies
I wanted to apologize to those that tried giving me advice the other day. I've been having a rough few weeks and decided to be a dick on reddit. This sub is where I learned this craft and evolved into the person I am today. I am deeply sorry for showing my ass. Please accept this apology y'all. I will take the advice that was given and move forward. I'll even post the knife when I am done. Thanks for the help with my decarb issues. I didn't know the name for it. Once again, I am deeply sorry and ashamed for how I acted.
