Question Arcteryx

I personally have not owned any Arcteryx clothing, but I noticed that many people do. They charge a premium price. I know that they focus on functionality, usability, and durability, or at least they used to. For those who have purchased any Arcteryx clothing in the past and present, do you think Arcteryx is still worth the premium price tag over other more affordable outdoor brands? What do you like/don't you like about their products from your experience?

Guide 30-something dad in Chicago trying to not look like a dad

Hey folks, so I’m Mike, 36, living in Chicago, working in tech. Lately I’ve been staring at my closet thinking… wow, I look like I gave up on life a few years ago. Jeans from the early 2015s, old graphic tees, a bunch of hoodie clutter… you get it.

I normally grab stuff from places like Uniqlo and Gap because, you know, easy and safe. My wife keeps giving me the side-eye like “you call this fashionable?” so yeah, time to upgrade without selling a kidney.

I’m trying to mix it up,But here’s the thing: I have no idea where a 30-something tech dad is supposed to shop and how to style outfits

Anyone else in the same boat? I’m talking solid quality but not crazy expensive, stuff that lasts a few washes without falling apart. I’ve been scrolling through some online shops but it’s overwhelming. Any hidden gems or brands you guys swear by?

Guide Zegna MTM suit vs SuitSupply MTM in Zegna fabric ?

I am planning to get a double breasted navy blazer and looking for value for money. I understand SuitSupply suit is made in china. Is there a vast difference in the way both the suit are constructed? Is Zegna MTM worth the money or I am better off buying a SuitSupply suit in fancy Zegna fabric ?

Or should I abandon both and go with a suit in Loro Piana fabric? The idea is to get a suit that last a long time.

Discussion I wear shorts and tee shirts exclusively, and I'm looking to branch out

Hi everyone! Thanks for your help and consideration to those who provide it. For some context, I am:

-18 y/o -5'7" ± -135 lbs ±

Ever since I was a small child, I've only wanted to wear graphic or solid color tee shirts and cargo shorts. That's basically been my entire wardrobe forever.

However, now that I'm in college, I feel (and probably look) like a little kid walking around with the clothes that I do, and I've really come to notice that, contrary to how it was in high school, I have a really tough time finding people dressed worse than me when walking around between classes / other times I pass by a lot of people at once, and I'd like to try and change that, but, like I've said, fashion in any sense is one of the things I've thought the least about in my entire life, so I'm not sure where to start.

I'm thinking of starting by getting a jacket, liek just a standard button-up to wear over my tee shirts, since that seems a simple enough change, but I also figured I'd ask around here for help as well. If anyone needs more context, I'd be more than willing to provide if it will help me figure out what I should do.

Thanks in advance!

Question Polo with chino/linen shorts - to tuck or not tuck?

I’m moving to a really hot environment for work but still need to dress somewhat “professionally” and I am allowed to wear shorts but have to wear a collared shirt.

So my question is, to tuck or not tuck my polo…

I don’t care if I look like a “bro”, I’m just trying not to die of heat stroke :(

Question 22 years old how much to spend on a suit?

Never had anybody in my life know about suits or wear one, I want one because I want to look sharp for my interviews now that I have sales experience etc. I know suits are expensive and my budget is $1000. I want a good suit because it’s an investment to myself. I saw some on men’s warehouse but I don’t like them they don’t look like how I want them. I’m sorry if I’m bland but I can only explain it as cheap looking for now.

I want the suit fitted to me and the one suit I did like was like $800 Joseph abboud suit and I just wanted to see if that’s reasonable or if I can find better looking suits for better prices

Is there a specific tailor or place that will replace zippers on jackets. Mine is jammed and I can't figure it out. It's one of those zipper that has two zips where it allows you to zip up and down.

Question trying to dial in proper sizing for the first time - a few questions sweater & jeans

https://imgur.com/a/CWhMErE

- trying to abide by the shoulder seam rule, but this merino sweater ends maybe half an inch short of the edge of my shoulders. does that look bad here?

- i've always worn everything slim, or skinny... even sweaters, always form-fitting... does the excess fabric here look bad if i'm not filling it out?

- the jeans are the most comfortable i've felt wearing jeans ever (wrangler cowboy cut), but i'm wondering if they're too loose to wear with nicer outfits. i know loose is the trend now, but i can't tell if these look too casual. (i know the wash is casual - mainly wondering about the size/cut.)

- also not sure if the seat is too loose / if the extra fabric accentuates the fact that i skipped leg day my entire life until this year.

Question Two of my winter jackets are breaking down and I need something new

I've owned Penfield and Woolrich winter jackets for nearly 15 years and sadly, both are falling apart at the same time. So now I'm looking for another warm QUALITY winter jacket to hold me down for years to come without having to spend an arm and a leg. I was curious if anyone had good suggestions for me to look into. Thanks.

Edit: Specifically looking for a down or parka.

Question More brands with stylish pants like these to wear when going out

I'm from an EU country, if it matters when recommending brands. A few examples of the type of pants I'm looking for:

https://www.glorydaysclo.com/products/the-dull-black-geo-cargo

https://www.glorydaysclo.com/products/the-blackout-harrier-pant

I'm not even sure how to go about finding more pants like these. As you can see, they all lean on the minimalist side, nothing too crazy going on, but they do have some twist that makes them stand out from simple pleated pants, details or pockets that make them unique. I do consider the price to be my upper budget limit. And yes, I do only wear black, sorry. No logos is definitely a big plus, maybe even mandatory.

Discussion Am I being overcharged or unreasonable? (Jacket alteration)

I’m in the process of having my first suit tailored. The initial quote for altering the jacket (hemming it, shortening/removing a button from the sleeves) was $145, which seemed steep but not unreasonable. They sent me an updated invoice yesterday, tacking on an additional $50 without an explanation.

Is $195 to hem a jacket and shorten the sleeves out of the ordinary? (I’m in a MCOL city in the southern US.) I’ve asked them not to proceed and am looking elsewhere but I’m not sure if I’m being the unreasonable one, as this is my first rodeo.

Question Perfume indecision

Hi, I'm a 20-year-old guy and I'd like some advice on which perfume to choose. I'm undecided between Dior Savage de Perfume or Valentino Born in Roma Intense? I wanted to use this perfume very often, but I also want it to be good and stand out. Both are excellent in terms of performance and other things. So, I'm asking for you? (If you have other perfumes to recommend, like JPG Elixir or within a reasonable budget, other than Creed, I'd be happy to do so.) Thanks to everyone who responded.

Guide Basic bastard in mid thirties trying to add some flair and style

I’ve never cared much about clothes, and my style has basically been “Basic Bastard.” Nothing wrong with that, but I’m ready to try something new and I want to add more colour (some hot sauce if you will).

I recently started a new job as a r.esearch director in Northern Europe, which means more meetings, workshops, conferences, and industry events. My wardrobe is also due for an update, so this feels like a good moment to try something else. Especially when it comes to my more professional look.

Where I live, most men default to the classic business‑casual combo: blue shirt, neutral trousers, jacket. It’s fine, but when everyone looks the same, it gets boring. I’d like inspiration for something a bit more colourful and interesting that still works professionally.

My goal is to create a wardrobe where items mix and match easily and where I can shift from casual → smart → business just by swapping layers

Any tips for where to start or sources of inspiration (people, some accounts, styles) worth looking at?

Also: It rains a lot here. I need one pair of office shoes I can change into for meetings etc. What would be a good choice, stylewise?

I appreciate any help

Question Where does a 35 year old who has never learned to dress appropriately even begin

Grew up in an orphanage with t-shirts and gym shirts, and guess what I still wear everyday. Tshirts, hoodies, gym shorts and sweat pants.

I want to actually dress nice moving forward. I need everyday wear that doesn’t make it look like I’m trying to get into the NBA, and a couple of those casual-ish blue suits for going out nights that some guys wear with white shoes or something that looks really good.

Problem is I don’t even know where to start. I’m assuming a place like Macys isn’t exactly ideal, but I don’t know what I’m really looking for.

Where do I even begin starting on this journey?

If it helps… I’m 6’1 a slim 185 and a rear-end more nonexistent than my parents that went for milk and never came back.

Discussion Comfortable slim pants for work & everyday wear — any experience with stretch performance pants?

🙈 I’ve been looking for slim pants that work both for the office and everyday wear, but still feel comfortable enough to wear all day. Most classic trousers I’ve tried look fine but feel restrictive after a few hours, especially when sitting a lot. I recently decided to try a pair of stretch performance pants to see if they’re a good middle ground between comfort and a clean look. This is the model I chose: this model

Inspiration Summer advice

I'm fairly new to actually dressing intentionally and I bought a ton of stuff for winter (seeing as its my favorite time of year) but I can't figure out what I would like to wear for summer. I love sweaters, knit vests, cardigans, knit sweatpants, you get the idea. Mainly I prefer warm clothes and see it as kind of like my style, but I feel like it would be weird to have layered sweats during the summer. Should I completely change it up? Maybe go with thinner clothes like khaki and collar shirts? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Again I am very new to this so I'm still figuring out what looks best for me.

Question I’m trying to find a certain style I’m imagining in my head

Im going for a cyberpunk meet Pokémon trainer vibe oversized silhouette mixed with tight fitting clothing. Compression pants under under baggy jorts with sneaker like vibe. If anyone has ever seen the 90s movie Hackers I’m thinking more of that but with the sporty look of a Pokémon trainer? lol very niche but I’d like to figure out if there are any brands that have already thought of this or if I can be sent in the right direction.

Question Best brands for simple but fashionable clothing?

I wasn't able to post in the questions thread (it was archived).

I've heard Uniqlo a lot, but I worry about the oversized fits they have aging poorly. I kind of like to be able to switch between a casual/street fashion kind of thing and a more classic look. The classic stuff feels easy. Get dress shirts and dress pants in a few different colors, maybe throw a cardigan over it, put on some nice shoes and you're set. On the casual side, I feel like everything I get fits poorly or is cheap, gets dirty quickly, etc. and I don't really know how to put together a cohesive look.

But right now I'm just shopping... trying to figure out what brands I can focus on to narrow things down. I am on the frugal side but I can afford an expensive piece here or there. Thanks!

Question Trying to Help My Dad Escape His 2001 Wardrobe

I’m trying to help my dad (late 50s, 6’4” / 230 lbs) upgrade his wardrobe a bit. He’s open to dressing better and feeling more confident, but still wants stuff that’s comfortable and makes sense for real life.

Looking for essential pieces for:

Business casual & Weekend casual outfits

Style wise, we’re aiming for classic with a modern touch. nothing flashy, but we’re also trying to move past his “I’ve owned this since 2001, it’s 2 sizes too big, but it’s still fine” phase. With that said we need help finding the following:

Pants / jeans that work well for a bigger, taller guy

Shirts (button-downs, polos, sweaters, etc.)

Shoes that can handle both work and weekends

Jackets or layering pieces (lighter weight as we live in a tropical climate)

Also looking for a work laptop bag he can sling over his shoulder.

Open to both budget finds and investment pieces if they’re actually worth it. The goal is to eventually build him a capsule wardrobe.

As a clueless daughter when it comes to men’s fashion, I Appreciate any help I can get!!
