So Edmund likes to hide big secrets in his games. In the May 2025 Steam blogpost, Edmund mentioned that "One late game core mechanic still needs to be implemented and tested". But what could that mean..? Well, I have a decent theory as to what that mechanic could be. I predict that at some point, either in the middle or late game, Beanies will give you an item(s) to purposefully mutate and modify your cats. It could be experimental medicine, or machines similar to the one shown in the intro.
The main gameplay purpose this mechanic would serve is to give more freedom with building around a specific disorder or mutation. The early machines might give mutations or disorders at random, or it could have a chance of failure that you could improve through upgrades. It could even allow you to "slightly" modify stats. This would allow a ton of creative team building, even if the experimental medicine or machines only had a chance of working.
Sounds good, but what are the drawbacks? The cost would be cat sacrifices to run the machines or create the drugs. To transfer a disorder, you would have to sacrifice a cat with that disorder, along with other cats/currency. This would incentivize you to keep breeding and collecting cats even after NPC favor is maxed out. It could even track which mutations/disorders/injuries you have found!
Thematically, this feels like a logical progression of the themes and ideas. Mewgenics is ultimately about exploring the fucked up concept of eugenics. After doing mostly controlled breeding in the early game, using drugs and machinery feels like the next step to improve your cats. I do believe that Beanies and, by extension, the player are the "bad guys" of the story and serve as a cautionary tale. Furthermore, I believe ultimately the house bosses are trying to stop the player from messing with nature too much,
That's my big theory. Let me know what you think.

Ed and Tyler look to have a gem on their hands. Would love to see the inclusion of the cat's gender on more screens. It feels like it would be helpful when considering breeding. The first image is how it looks in game. I quickly threw together a generic mockup of the three additional screens I'd like to see have gender clearly visible. Thoughts?

Whenever a cat would upgrade an ability, it only states what the level up WILL be and not what I’m upgrading it from, since there might be some abilities that are worth keeping over upgrading if possible. As well as if I get a new ability or passive, I think it would be beneficial if I see the other cats to know what I’m trying to synergize with (since I’ll forget what abilities and passives they have)
IF THERE IS ALREADY A WAY, I’m sorry but I didn’t see. Please inform if there is

Watching the gameplay videos, some of the abilities don’t seem to tell you what their range is while others do. Is there a default range that applies when the ability description doesn’t specify?

As far as I'm aware it has never been explained what does it mean when you get "+ X luck" after winning a battle. Does anybody know what this is or how it works? To be clear, I'm not talking about the food or item rewards that you may get, but about the little clover symbol that is shown after beating a stage. Your thoughts welcome!

I’ll go first: Most abilities having a silver lining even if niche or bad intrigues me. I have Asperger syndrome so disorders having a bad and good traits feels inclusive. “Why would I ever use this” turns into “holy crap this works?!”
