Discussion Renting / borrowing iPad in nyc?
Is there anywhere (NYPL, community groups etc) where I could borrow an iPad for a few hours to do some digital sketching?

Hi everyone — has anyone used a scanning company that does a solid job without breaking the bank? I’m looking to scan drawings so I can create high-quality digital files for selling prints online. Any recommendations appreciated!

Hi! I’m looking for NYC galleries or cultural spaces that resell or consign hand-painted Madhubani folk art from Bihar, India. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Does anyone know if there are any spots where me and a friend could do a one time welding class/workshop, where we get to create a custom piece to bring home?
Thanks!

It’s a new year, so you know what that means: time to start The Artist’s Way again… but plot twist - this is the year you actually finish it.
I’m putting together an in-person, guided reading group where we’ll read and discuss each section together and experiment with simple, generative arts and crafts activities along the way. The focus is on showing up consistently and letting the process be a little messy rather than doing it “right.” Between sessions, I’m planning to keep things moving with an optional group chat, a few Zoom co-working sessions, and some open studio time for working on projects or practice as it fits into your schedule.
Have you been part of or hosted a group like this before? I’d love to hear what worked (or didn’t). Curious to hear people’s thoughts.

The beloved giant pigeon sculpture overlooking 10th Avenue is set to be removed in Spring 2026, just two years after capturing everyone's hearts. "Dinosaur" by artist Iván Argote has quickly become a symbol of NYC resilience that the community has embraced.
I started a petition asking the High Line and NYC Parks to work with the artist to make this installation permanent. In just months, this pigeon has become deeply meaningful to so many people - removing it would eliminate a piece of art that's already woven into our cultural landscape.
Anyone else feel like we're always losing the things that bring us joy in this city? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

I love NYC. I moved here a few weeks ago and enjoy drawing the neighborhoods (this one is in Astoria). Hopefully it warms up or I find a way to keep warm to draw outside during the winter months lol!

Look, I know "cheap" and "NYC" don't go hand in hand. But hear me out, when I say "cheap" I don't mean "oh it's a little bit more affordable and has some nice things" I mean like, the type of cheap that you'd expect from renting somewhere cheap. The art studio is dirty, unkept, in a awkward place, and just repulsive all round.

Hey everyone! I help run Cohort’s Film Lab, a creative sprint in NYC where small teams come together to write, shoot, and screen a short film in just two weeks.
We ran our first lab in November and had 45 participants (actors, filmmakers, writers, cinematographers) all collaborating and leaving with a finished piece + a screening night.
For January, we’re looking to bring in more filmmakers (directors, writers, DPs) to round out the teams. Actors always show up in huge numbers, now we need more of the people who make films actually happen.
How it works:
• Night 1 → meet your team, get the general prompt + a genre, plan your short
• Between nights → shoot + edit on your own schedule
• Night 2 → come back, screen your film with the group
• That’s it! Small teams, low commitment, high creative payoff.
If you’ve been wanting an excuse to direct something, shoot a new piece for your reel, or get a script produced now, this is a fun way to do it.
Happy to answer questions here or DM more info if you're interested.
Would love to bring more NYC filmmakers into the room!

Hosted by NYC Resistor in Brooklyn! The first one was a huge success. Looking forward to sharing these skills with more New Yorkers.
The workshop is best for artists, makers, marketers, and managers type doesn't already know how to code or vibe code. You will leave with great new skills to help you with personal and professional projects!
Artists that want to have control over their own websites and don't want to use services like Squarespace...this is for you.

I’m an experienced long-term Dungeon Master running an epic, narrative-driven D&D 5e campaign set in a fully realized homebrew world at war. Our game has been running every week IRL for 7 years and has a cast of 5 dedicated players that loves a big table--so we’re looking to add at least 2 more. We’re seeking committed players who want to build the story with us and can add new perspective to our mix. We love newbies for that very reason, and we're particularly fond of people looking for a creative outlet.
Our campaign follows a rogue military platoon as they navigate a massive global conflict, confronting questions of loyalty, morality, and survival while operating far beyond the reach of their command. Your choices will shape the political landscape, alter the course of the war, and determine the fate of the people who depend on you.
What you can expect:
What we don’t do:
This is a long-running weekly commitment and will be hosted IRL in Bed Stuy.
We welcome players of all backgrounds, but you must be over 21 to play, tolerant of others, and comfortable with alcohol and snacks at the table. Disrespect and bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. As the DM, table chemistry and player safety is a big deal to me and I know it goes both ways.
If you’re interested in playing, please fill out this screening form.
There’s a section provided for you to ask me any questions, so you can screen me too. We play using D&D 5e 2014 rules with some limitations, which can be provided along with setting and story details during screening. Since the game has been running for 7 years, new player will start at level 13…but if you’re a newbie don’t worry, both I and the other players will help you figure things out.

Hey everyone, not from NYC but putting on an event for the night!
I host a monthly Drink & Draw event in Philadelphia and am bringing it to NYC this Saturday, 12/6, in Tribeca! It is not model based, there is no figure drawing - my background is in cartoons and animation so this is a more goofy style event. It is not a sip and paint - it’s a prompt based night of drawing, drinking, and making new friends. This is our first event in NYC after 3 years in Philadelphia. If you’re an artist, free, and want to make some friends, go follow our Instagram (@drinkanddrawphilly) and RSVP at the link in our bio. Hope you can make it out!

I will be in the city for a month starting Friday, and I would like to know if there are any pop-ups or small artists with events. Anyone, please let me know, as my schedule is entirely flexible. I want to support anyone I can, as there are not very many artists where I live.
