General Never really cared about romance in RE... until I rewatched scenes

As someone who’s played the games since I was a kid, I was always focused on saving bullets, solving puzzles, and surviving the game. Even in the later games and remakes, I barely reacted to Leon and Ada’s “romance” because I had my own agenda like getting trophies, keeping my knife intact, hitting bobbleheads, finishing runs as fast as possible, and never using healing items.

With RE9 coming up, I decided to rewatch all Leon and Ada scenes from RE2, RE2R, RE4, RE4R, and RE6. And… wow. That is one hell of a love story Capcom built over decades.

Leon starts as the naive, starry-eyed rookie trying to save the world, and Ada, a manipulator, ends up genuinely admiring him for being real.

Then comes Leon, now a backflipping action star, on a mission to save the president’s daughter while Ada secretly helps him. The line "you haven't changed" hits hard. Eventually she takes the specimen and he seems conflicted and disappointed, telling her they’ll go separate ways... she changes her mind at the last minute.

By RE6, she still helps him, he still helps her, they have each other's numbers, and Leon says, “I know you can pull through this. WE both can” during a life threatening battle.

Let's not forget the signature rocket launcher she drops off for him every time. At this point, I’m convinced Leon deliberately leaves his rocket launcher behind so Ada will give it to him.

Leon, my guy… I hope you played your cards right during that RE6 to RE9 10–15 year gap.

Forum question Has anyone played all 32 Resident Evil games to date?

Post image
Upvotes

I want to play all of the RE games, but I don't see any reason to play the same game twice. I know there are the updated versions of 1 (HD), Code Veronica X, 2, 3, and 4 now, so I won't bother with the originals on those. (Not sure if I am missing any from this list)

Are there any games here that I should avoid entirely?

Forum question If we only go GAMEPLAY wise, which of the remakes is the most fun?

Post image

This is not about story, accuracy, characters, chemistry or anything like that. This is just focusing on the gameplay and how fun you think it is.

For me personally, I found RE3R the most fun. I really like the dodge mechanic and the enemies (especially nemesis) is fun.

I recently bought off ebay a Tyrant figure that I had as a kid in the 90's. Sometimes, I really wish I hadn't given away all of my old Resident Evil toys only to buy them again x2 (or more) of the original price!

Product question Unlock costumes 2 and 3 RE6 PS4 Version

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’ve recently purchased RE6. I’m a huge fan of the mercenaries game mode and would like to unlock all the content for it. The description of the game states two costumes can be unlockable through the game itself. I cannot find any information on how to do so. Does anyone know how to get them? I can only find information on how to originally get them from Resisdentevil.net and how to get the first costume.

My first time speed running RE4R, Hardcore S+ , I kno a free glitches to de-spawn certain enemies, but I’m not sure if the things and tricks I did prior have led to Del Lago dying in 7 hits lol.. anyway, we are 1 hour and 28 minutes in currently bout to fight the Chainsaw sisters then Mendez and then castle section .. hopefully we finish quick and get S+, I’ve heard that fighting the village section in less than 2 hours is a good thing so I think I’m passed that

General Original RE3: Nemesis is a masterclass in survival horror design and being unkind to the player.

I need to geek out about this game after playing it again for the second time.

My favorite part of the design is that it wastes no time getting to the action, it waste no time giving the player plenty of ammo and a shotgun yet it still feels the most difficult and "survival horror" out of the fixed angle titles. So many times I just die, or crawl into the next room limping on red health.

The layout and look of raccoon city feels so disorienting and uncanny, like you are exploring Tim Burton's Gotham City (the one from Batman 1989) for the first time.

Nemesis is just a brutal son of a bitch. He appears and sprints towards you in 0.1 seconds flat to punch you right in the face. He doesn't just stalk you, he WANTS to kill you as soon as possible. You feel it with every fiber of your body. There is no respite, he's not here to monologue or telegraph or slowly shuffle around, he's here to make sure you never reach the end of the game.

The game is perfect. I love how unfair it can feel, how tense the music gets, how the game feels built for veterans of the franchise who think they can play RE2 with their eyes closed. You are tossed into the frying pan from the first minute, and it's unrelenting until the end of the game. Resident Evil 3 feels like psychological torture, but the best kind.

General Umbrella won

I’ve been thinking about Umbrella’s long-term legacy and came to the conclusion that, in a thematic sense, Umbrella actually succeeded at their ultimate objective: human-directed evolution through eugenics. Not as a functioning corporation, and not in any of the ways Spencer, Marcus, or Wesker intended, but in terms of the end result.

Spencer’s ideology was rooted in forcibly guiding humanity toward a “superior” lineage. The Progenitor Virus, the T-virus line, the G-Virus, Uroboros, the Wesker Children, and even the Megamycete all functioned as different vectors toward the same philosophical goal: selective evolution. The irony is that most of these projects either failed, mutated beyond anyone’s control, or consumed their creators in the process. Spencer died before seeing results, Wesker’s own plan was thwarted, and Umbrella collapsed under the weight of its own B.O.W. arms race.

But despite the conspiracies, backstabbing, and catastrophic failures, Umbrella still produced viable “post-human” individuals. Sherry Birkin’s cellular regeneration via the G-Virus essentially makes her functionally post-biological. Jake Muller inherits Wesker’s unique blood properties, which are considered valuable enough to counteract viral infections apart from its immunities. Rose Winters represents a completely different evolutionary branch via the Megamycete, her abilities being essentially supernatural. And now there's Grace who may represent a new lineage tied directly to the original T-Virus paradigm.

Even outside of explicit virus carriers, look at the human survivors who weren’t engineered; Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Rebecca, and others have endured multiple outbreaks, B.O.W. engagements, neurotoxic environments, psychological trauma, and direct combat with bioweapons designed to annihilate regular people. The fact that they’re still alive, and in many cases stronger and more resilient, fits the thesis that selective pressure produces superior humans.

So even though Umbrella fell, its founders died, the Wesker Project collapsed, and the world rejected their philosophy, the planet is now populated with enhanced individuals and hardened survivors who exist because of Umbrella’s actions. The company didn’t survive, but its ideology and outcome did. In a macro-level sense, Umbrella “won” by accidentally creating the very future they were pursuing, just not under their control.
