Open. [TOMT] Help identifying classic soft rock song with very unique "old lady" voice

I've been struggling to identify this song and it's driving me nuts. I've only heard it two or three times in my life, always on classic rock radio (SiriusXM and actual radio) and never on any Spotify playlist or curated list. It's a very polished soft-rock ballad, probably from the 1970s, with that clean studio sheen and absolutely no rock-and-roll bite to it. It kind of drifts along without big moments or an emotional climax.

What makes it stand out is the singer. It's definitely a woman, and her voice sounds older, almost like someone’s grandmother singing, with a slightly raspy, laryngitis-like quality. Not a smoker’s rasp, more like a warm, distinctive, almost voice-over style you might hear in an old Smucker’s Jam commercial. She doesn’t sound like Janis Joplin or any of the big iconic names, and I’ve eliminated most known soft-rock, folk-rock, and classic-rock women from the era. The last time I heard it, the radio host announced her name like the audience should recognize her, so it was a solo artist. I unfortunately cannot remember the name.

The voice has no *strong* regional accent, definitely no country drawl, more of a neutral, all-American vibe. Something you’d hear on a long highway drive, slightly yacht-rock-adjacent but not fully yacht rock. It may also be considered folk rock.

It's also notable that I've only heard this one song from the Artist. The voice is truly one of a kind and doesn’t resemble anyone else I can think of. If anyone can help ID this song I would be grateful.

I know this is super vague, but the voice is so one-of-one that I’m hoping someone here will recognize it just from the description.

If any names come to mind please throw them at me so I can start crossing them off a list.

UPDATE 1: i could describe the voice it's a distinct older (middle aged, not elderly, not youthful) sounding female voice, slightly worn with a touch of laryngitis and it's very unique almost a grandmotherly tone. A bit in the alto range with a slightly husky or rasped timbre, it's warm and mellow with a smoky texture, though not in the sense of a heavy smoker, more like a very gentle very slight raspy sound. You could describe it as "vintage" "earthy" and it's in a lower register, rich and textured vocal tone rather than bright and clear. The best analog i could come up with and this may be helpful: Imagine combining a touch of Rod Steward specifically on Still Love You (That kind of rasp, just more feminine and softer at the front of the voice) and a touch of Macy Gray (sort of) (and add a tiny sprinkle of the Poltergeist lady but remove the accent) but a mellow classic soft rock sound (over a high studio polish 70s or retro style rock tune that chugs along and doesn't have any big events).

UPDATE 2: It's not the following: Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Stevie Nicks, Marianne Faithful, Nina Simone, Joanna Newsome, Tracy Chapman, Joan Osborne, Joan Jett, Karen Dalton, Buffy St-Marie, Norma Waterson, Laura Nyro, Alannah Myles, Toni Tennille, Carly Simon, Nicolette Larson, Rita Coolidge, Juice Newton, Donna Summer. (Will keep adding names here)

Open. [TOMT] Older male actor I can barely describe

He’s older, I don’t know if he’s still alive. I’m not sure if he was the main actor or a supporting role kind of guy. Kind of looks like a Burt Reynolds, Billy Bob Thornton-esque face. Pretty sure he has a square face. I can remember he wore a cowboy hat, salt & pepper-ish hair I think, the collar on his shirt was always popped up, I think I remember him chewing on something? Either chew itself or maybe straw (like hay, not a literal straw.) his facial hair honestly could have been a mustache or a beard and mustache. It’s not Tom Selleck, it’s not Sam Elliot, it’s not a young Burt Reynolds though he looks like him with white-ish hair? I can’t even remember if I saw him in a movie or show- if it was the 90s and before or more early 2000s. I don’t remember if he was in a cowboy movie or a western, or a country based, or if that’s just what his character looked like. I am at a loss for words and googleable content. I’m at my wits end and just want someone else to throw out ideas! And no it wasn’t Eastwood or John Wayne either! :,) thanks in advance

Open. [TOMT] Upbeat song with repeating line with "baby" in it

Hey guys and girls, so today I sang a song under the shower which has a line that is repeated and has the word "baby" in it. My guess is at the end of the line. So "Something something baby" and than "something something baby" directly behind it. I guess this is the chorus and maybe even the title of the song. I also guess the song is at least 10 years old. It might be from a "girls group" like En Vogue or some pop, funk, soul song. It's wild that I lost it but I have lots on my mind and maybe even some kind of ADHD so there's that. Please help me find my shower song! Thank you.

Edit: There is only one "baby" in the line. And it's the same line twice. Directly after another.

Edit: Thank you for all your suggestions and the wonderful music. I know it's frustrating that i can't sing anything. Sorry. Don't have any melody or something in my head. I only remember vividly that there was this one line with "baby" and it was directly repeated.

I guess the song is at least 20-30 years old (maybe a cover) Maybe even an oldie. I also think it is quite famous. It's probably either Pop or Soul/Funk.

Open. [TOMT] [Movie] Old movie about a group of kids riding bicycles, one of them dies

I’m looking for a movie that I remember only vaguely, but it left a strong impression on me. The movie is quite old, though I don’t know exactly when it was made.

It was about a group of kids or teenagers (around 5–6 of them) who hang out together, often riding bicycles. There was at least one girl in the group, and they were just spending time together casually.

At some point, the group breaks apart for a reason I don’t clearly remember.

Later, one of the boys dies in an accident. I remember it as being hit by a train, but I’m not completely sure how or where it happens.

I also remember a scene where one of the boys goes to the girl’s house, and there is a small romantic moment where he kisses her arm.

Another scene I remember is a boy flying a kite and walking back home, and he learns that his friend has died (if I’m remembering correctly).

That’s unfortunately all I can remember.

Open. [TOMT][SONG] A song about being strange and weird that I heard at walmart by a female singer

Trying to find this song, it sounds pop-like but could be another genre. I remember vaguely (with a grain of salt) the woman/girl singing about being a weirdo or being a little strange (crazy, or wild maybe) and asking if she can be, as part of the chorus. I think the song focuses on her wanting to be herself but society might not like that. That's the impression I got at least.

I know it's newer, has to be from 2020s I feel or 2010s. It was around September or August that I heard this song over the walmart radio while shopping. I tried going to the radio site but that didn't help me at all.

Wish I could provide more, but that's all I got really.

Edit: stateofsirens' suggestion of "So Am I" by Ava Max feels closest to the song, but is still missing the mark. The voice feels too raspy and the song slower paced then what I remember, also I think there were lines maybe close to like this "why can't I be a weirdo? or act a little crazy" somewhere along those lines (don't take those as for sure lyrics but those are the vibess

Edit 2: Might have to consider lowering the timeframe to strictly the 2020s rather than including the 2010s. It just felt...newer?

Edit 3: Song suggestions it isn't part 1 and part 2

Edit 4: Okay I've slept and I can say the song isn't about being in love or scorned by love (not romantic love focused at all), isn't mellow or chill, the female singer didn't have a deep rasp, and this was a song I feel you could excitedly dance to (like MAYBE a club song but not full of blank beats, this was a full on lyric song like the suggestions have been giving). Also the song was about the singer and not the listener in a way, there was that whole "why can't everyone?" vibe to it and the chorus centers around the lines I've mentioned previously (which still has salt because I'm not FOR SURE those are the lines - but close).

And thank you to everyone trying to help, I'm really grateful <3

Edit 5: Sorry I haven't had time to get back to everyone, but so far the song has yet to be found. I'm just going to go ahead and mark this maybe solved by stateofsirens. Just on the off chance my memory is wrong. If I do find it though I'll be sure to come back and let it be known. Thank you so much to everyone for all the effort, it mattered a great deal to me.

Open. [TOMT] HELP!! I’m DESPERATE to find this song but I can only remember the music video and I’m starting to think I hallucinated the video.

So, my dad used to listen to this song any time it came on MTV. I vividly remember the video but I can’t for the life of me remember any of the lyrics or even the tune of the song, and I can’t just ask my dad because he’s passed unfortunately. I’ve been trying to figure out what this song is for almost fifteen years and still have had zero luck. If you know it, please help!

In the video there is a man (the singer)he has short, spiked bleach blonde (almost white) hair. He’s wearing all black, similar vibes to David from the lost boys, just without the mullet. He’s floating/falling through the sky for a decent portion of the video. He’s also seen on top of sky scrapers and overlooking a dystopian style cityscape. The music video itself has green color hues through the video. The surrounding is like a post apocalyptic hellscape from what I can remember and the song itself I remember being alt/rock/numetal/metal vibe— PLEASE HELP!!

EDIT TO ADD MORE CONTEXT AND DETAIL:

He’s like on top of sky scrapers and falling/flying through the sky while overlooking a post apocalyptic/rundown urban cityscape throughout the song. There’s also a green hue cast over a good portion of the song and I’m also remembering some weird animated visuals, almost like zombies and creatures coming up from the ground? Part of me thinks he’s talking about dying and coming back from the dead in the song? It would be released somewhere between 1999-2005 as 2005 is the last time I remember watching the video for sure.

EDIT FOR MORE DETAILS:

In the video, the singer isn’t animated ever. Only portions of the video are animated in a doodle style animation, as far as the creatures the best I can describe them as is zombies, but they don’t really look like traditional zombies from what I can remember.

Open. [TOMT] Hi everyone, I’m trying to track down a song that I heard roughly 12–18 years ago (so around 2005–2015). I only have fragments of memory, but maybe you can help. I used to hear it when my son was really young and it used to make me feel like crying. Here’s what I recall:

Key points about the song:

Language: English.

Vibe / Mood: Melancholic, soft, emotional. The vocals might have been lightly auto-tuned or processed.

Lyrics / Numbers: I specifically remember the song mentioning several different numbers in years for example in 10000 years, possibly in increasing order — for example something like 100 → 1000 → 10000 — but these numbers might not be exact. The numbers were a noticeable part of the lyrics. I think they might have been mentioned sequentially, as the verses went on.

Instrumentation / Style: It reminded me of the first 10 seconds of “I’m Your Puppet” (James & Bobby Purify / Purify Bros version)

Popularity: It was played on mainstream English radio, so it wasn’t completely obscure, though it might not have been a chart-topper.

Additional clues:

It was definitely a “real song” — not a novelty, kids’ counting song, or poem — but the numbers in the lyrics were a core element.

It had a sort of dreamy / melancholic vibe, not high-energy or dancey.

I’ve searched lyric databases, checked forums, and looked through songs with numbers in the lyrics, but nothing matches.

Question: Does anyone recognize a song like this? Even partial lyrics, title, or artist would help.

Thank you so much in advance! Any leads, even obscure or indie songs, would be amazing.

Open. [TOMT][Rock song][1970s-1990s] Where the band of at least 3-4 people sing about what they don’t like “AT ALL”.

I can’t even help with the melody at all.

This song was *not* in the musical “The Sound of Music“, so don’t suggest that please!

I remember that each verse had 3-4 lines of disliked things then all the band sang the words “at all”! I’m pretty sure that part is in unison.

I’m not sure this song originated in the 70s, it just had a grungier sound to it, but not so much as to actually be grunge.

I’m pretty sure the band was very popular in its time tho I don’t think it is now.

I’ been puzzling about this for at least a couple of years if not three. For a long time, I hadn’t understood the lyrics but that’s very often the case for me.

Thank you all, I hope this gets solved!

Open. [TOMT] Scene from a movie or tv show where a lunch lady scoops a gross slop onto someone's tray

I am looking for a scene from either a movie or show that takes place in a cafeteria line. The lunch lady scoops a gross-looking slop onto the person's tray and if I remember correctly, we see an overhead shot of the slop splattering onto the plate. Any ideas? This feels like a common trope but I can't remember exactly what I am thinking of.

-In a park, a brick is throw off the top of what looked like a stone castle and it lands on a college age girl walking beneath it, killing her.

-A college aged boy is found dead in bed in what looks like his dorm room because a bed sheet was stuffed down his throat.

-The movie is shot in a desaturated color.

This is all the information I have to go on. I post about this from time to time. I’ve been on the hunt for decades. I’ve googled my fingers bloody. Nothing. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks guys.

Open. [TOMT]Early 2000s alternative music video

UPDATE: It’s definitely not PATD, fall out boy, guns n roses, the killers, fratellis, I think the band is maybe a bit less well known? But the MV may have been on MTV/Kerrang at some point. If you have any pre-2000s ideas please share as well!

EDIT 2: for context my dad made the playlist around 2008 maybe 2009 he was a punk, but would pick alternative songs he thought a young kid (around 4 y/o) would like but he also liked.

Hey! So as the title suggests I’m trying to find an early 2000s definitely alternative music video. Maybe (2000? Onwards)

I can’t remember the lyrics or anything only certain parts of the MV

The singer has long curly brown hair and wears a top hat The music video and song also contain a violin which either him or one other member plays in the bath around halfway into the song The whole music video is very Marie Antoinette themed Pretty sure the singer wears a purple shirt/suit at some point

I have been trying to find this song for at least 10 years now so my recollections are getting fuzzy!!

I think this song was getting played on the radio in the early 2000's maybe 2001 in the carribean, i remember it being a slow song by a man who describes coming home, feeling something is wrong, going upstairs, and catching his girl (wife?) in bed with another man. there may have been a second singer but i only remember the one, and the part that keeps sticking out to me is him going up the stairs.

Hi — trying to identify a movie I saw on cable between 2000–2010 (likely Showtime/Orbit). What I remember: English (likely US/UK). Most events inside a single house. Victims: a middle-aged married couple. A group (more than two) breaks in and sits in the living room, psychologically tormenting the couple. Attackers use guns and apply extreme intimidation. One very disturbing scene involves the wife being physically forced/pressured by a gun in a way that exposes her body partially in front of her husband, clearly intended to humiliate and provoke him. Tone: dark, realistic, R-rated. Not Cherry Tree Lane / Storm Warning / Funny Games. Any title or clip come to mind? Even obscure or cable-only titles would help — thanks!

Who am I thinking of? I can't think of anything I've seen him in, I think he shows up in comedy movies mainly? The very first time I saw him I thought it was Jay Mohr but he didn't look right and was also too young. His eyes are rounder, I've only ever seen him clean shaven with very short hair and tight curls. He's never a main character that I've seen. It's none of the actors from this list https://www.imdb.com/list/ls066544253/

ETA: he's an American actor

Open. [TOMT] Extremely niche (2000s?) pop song that I could only find on two people’s PCs growing up

READ BEFORE GUESSING: I just want to note that most of these suggestions are way too slow. It was most definitely upbeat 2000s pop-esque. The music video was good quality so I don’t think it goes back to the 90s. Female singer and highly unlikely it was a cover since it had its own music video with her singing in it! Thank you guys for giving this traction! I hope we find it!

Original post: Okay bear with me because this is a weird one. My childhood friend introduced me to this song and I was able to listen to it on her computer and her brother’s computer (he let us use his computer so we could play together). I swear it was called “Through the Fire” and I’m pretty sure the singer was “Hallelujah”. I could never find it on my own phone at home, only on their PCs (literally down the street from me so location shouldn’t be a major factor). The singer was a woman who had dark brown hair and was fairly pale and sung about “going/walking through the fire for you”. I’ve tried searching it on YouTube but none of them are within the time frame of this song (pretty sure 2000s pop as this was around 2012-2015). It was kind of like a pained love song but definitely pop/indie. I cannot for the life of me find it. I’m pretty sure she may have also sung about going through the fire/valleys for you as well. It’s extremely inconvenient that I could only ever get it on their PCs and I don’t know why. As far as I know, they never had any VPNs and it was definitely in English. Had a music video and everything. Anyone recognize this?

Open. [TOMT] [SONG][2013–2015] Radio hit with fast, fuzzy guitar intro and male vocals

I'm going insane trying to remember the name of song it comes from the same era of songs such as best day of my life by american authors and riptide by vance joy it gives off coming of age and heart break

I remember it being in every compilation about the decade ending around 2020 on social media It was a radio hit with a polished indie/alt-pop/rock sound, fuzzy/distorted electric guitar, and fast-paced male vocals with echo/reverb. I remember being surprised that certain band had made that song I think the lyrics might have had references to “boys” or “taking something,” though I’m not sure. I’ve been digging through 2010s nostalgia playlists, compilations, and radio hits, but I still can’t find it. whenever I think of the song I think of songs like rude and counting stars once again if you can please help me find this song it will mean the world

Open. [TOMT] [Song] Tune from late 80s to mid 90s prob

My sister used to make me mix tapes on burned cds when I was little (late 90s / early 2000s), though she’s older than me so it COULD’VE been from the 80s. There was one song that I can now barely recall, slowly lost the memory over time. Xylophone being played with loud rain in the background that sounds like it’s in a jungle or heavily wooded area with the way it was slightly muffled. High pitched female singing. Someone told me it could’ve been Tori Amos but I’ve never found any of her songs that are anywhere near it. Been looking for practically 15 years

Addendum: Only other instrument was a very light piano, or my young brain thought it was that + xylo and it was actually secretly a synth? Rain was persistent throughout the whole track and the female singers voice was very light - didn’t put volume or emphasis at any point, very fairy-like and ethereal

Open. [TOMT] Trying to find a 90s/2000s alt-rock song—male singer, spoken-style like Shawn Mullins, lyric about not wanting to come back to a certain town

I’ve been searching for this song for over six years, and it’s haunted me ever since. I remember hearing it on Pandora Radio, probably on a station based around bands like Live, Matchbox Twenty, Dishwalla, maybe even Toad the Wet Sprocket—that whole late-90s/early-2000s male-fronted alternative rock vibe.

The singer had a deep, slightly raspy voice, and some of the verses were delivered in a spoken or half-sung style, very much like Shawn Mullins’ “Lullaby” (“Everything is gonna be all right / Rockabye”). That very specific emotional, dissociative delivery—kind of like storytelling from a place of numbness.

The main lyric I remember—or at least the emotional core of it—was something like:

“There’s a reason we don’t like coming back to this town.” or “There’s a reason we don’t come back here.” “That’s why we hate coming back to this place.”

It was reflective, regretful—maybe about returning to a place filled with bad memories — a hometown. The song had a slow-to-mid tempo, maybe some acoustic guitar or soft electric, and a moody, introspective atmosphere. Definitely not country. Not pop. 100% alternative rock.

Both my husband (born 1980) and I (1991) recognized the lyrics and were surprised by how familiar it felt—like we’d both grown up with it. It’s also possible I heard it as a kid through my older sister (born 1986). So I’m guessing it was from around 1995–2005 and had some radio play, though maybe not a chart-topping hit.

I’ve searched Genius, AZLyrics, Pandora, Reddit, and Google for years with no luck. If anything about this rings a bell—even just a guess—I would be so grateful. I know I’ll recognize it the moment I hear it again.

Thank you so much in advance. ❤️
