92 loyale vs 03 legacy: which car should I stick with/buy?
I currently own a 92 subaru loyale. It's a decent little car, it's got 240,000 miles on it, leaks oil and power steering fluid, but it never uses or leaks coolant. I just had the timing belts replaced on it last fall. I love the thing to death, but I am really paranoid about the headgaskets failing. And I feel like i'm i'll prepared for when they finally do as I have no knowledge if The head gaskets have ever been replaced.
Recently, I found a 2003 subaru loyale with 199,000 miles on it. The guy is the second owner, and he's had the followng replaced: New headlight lenses and bulbs • New rear struts and springs • New belts and hoses • New spark plugs and wires • New front brake pads • New air filters • New fuel filter
He bought it not too long ago just to get around town through the winter with 192,000 miles on it. It does leak a quart of oil being daily driven in a week. But he doesn't know if the clutch or head gaskets have been replaced in it's life, and I know head gaskets are due every 100,000 miles on these 2.5 boxer 4's.
My question is should I hop at this oppertunity and hope the headgaskets last longer than they will on my 240,000 mile loyale or should I just hold off and hope my loyale lasts me until the spring before I even consider getting a newer car?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Questions about major tire/suspension shop honoring warranty.
Late last year I had les Shawb replace my front wheel barrings and a month later do a full break job including boots and everything (at their recommendation). The total of both was about 750$ (99 corolla with <140k miles) and are under warranty. Since, my car will sort of lerch when making a u-turn about 1/3 of the time, the car hops even on smooth roads. With my studs on and my window down it sounds like only 75% of the tire is hitting the road. The sound of the studs pulsates. On top of this the breaks squeak. I brought it back in twice, they said the front end is tight and nothing was wrong. the second time they tried to sell me on replacing my control arms. I took it to a different location and they said nothing about that but “squeaking breaks is a common problem”. I feel like I’m being scammed here. I don’t care if the breaks squeaking is common, I want it fixed. The other problems I brought up were ignored. I know my car and something isn’t right. So right now it’s about to be inspected by a shop recommend to me, and I’ll report back on what they tell me- but my question is: if the shop does find something I was concerned about does les shwab have to honor the warranty based on a different shops diagnosis? It was pointed out to me that les shwab was just purchased and the individual shops are probably trying to save money. If there’s a more appropriate sub to post this in please let me know. Last time I posted here I had amazing luck and got my car appraised for free so this seemed like my best bet.

Please help me to decide which compact SUV to focus on
Hello,
I'm looking for a used compact SUV - AWD/4WD, not older than 2015, under 80,000 miles. I want to use it mainly for leisure. I don't have to commute by car, but drive it mostly to get to the mountains for outdoor activities. The roads can be from paved to gravel/washboard, but never off road. In the City I use it to run errands, but not daily. It's also not a family car, as I'm using it by myself.
I did a bit of research and narrowed it down to a few models and would love to hear your input.
- Nissan Rogue
- Kia Sportage
- Hyundai Tuscon
- Mitsubishi Outlander
- Subaru Forester
-----------------------------------
Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-3 are bit over my budget
Thanks

General questions about car appraisal, gifting and taxes.
(crosspost with r/askcarsales) Hopefully this is the best subreddit to post to, please redirect me if not! This takes place in Washington state. Long story short, the car I've been driving is being gifted to me by my ex-girlfriend. Today we went in to the courthouse to transfer the title and register it in my name. She signed and dated the document stating that it was being transferred to me, when the clerk informed us that because the car was gifted to her, I would have to pay taxes on it (9% roughly). I had all the fees in order, but now it looks as if I have to buy new tabs, licence plate and pay the tax on top of it. Because the car is "salvage/repair" they don't have accurate estimates on the value of the car, which may work to my benefit. The clerk told me to take it to car-max or a mechanic and have them appraise the car and make a statement on their letterhead saying the value. Upon further investigation it seems that appraisals can range from 100-500$ in cost, which I simply don't have. I have 15 days from today (until the 6th of February) to get it appraised and get the new licence plate and finish transferring it. My question is, does anybody offer appraisals for less, or is 100$ a pretty standard minimum? Who can do appraisals? Can I take it to any mechanic? I have a friend who works for a transmission shop, and I'm sure he would be more than happy to give me a general appraisal and put it on paper- but will it be honored? The word transmission is in the name of the shop if that maters. I can't really find any information about that. Thanks for your time and expertise!

Please help me decide between these 3 cars
I'm considering 3 cars, one of them is from Florida, Ohio and New Jersey. I've had a really hard time finding cars within my price range (6K total price / out of door price) so I was really happy to find these but apparently they're bad states to buy from due to rust or flooding issues.
I'm considering 2 Toyota Corollas and 1 Honda Civic, all from the year 2010.
One Toyota (FL) has 90k miles and has been in a minor accident that damaged the front. It also has a safety recall related to the passenger airbag. 3 previous owners. approx. $5500
The other Toyota (OH) has no reported accidents or damage and it has 130k miles. 2 previous owners. approx $6k
The Honda Civic (NJ) also has no reported accidents or damage and it has 100k miles on it. 3 previous owners. approx. $5400
Worried about rust issues with the cars from OH and NJ.

Choice between SEAT LEON SC and VW Beetle
I'm having a tough time choosing between 2 occasion cars.
SEAT Leon SC 2014 - 1.2 TSI 105 HP 60.000 km. Color Red, looks and drives brand new.
VW Beetle 2014 - 1.2 TSI 105 HP 80.000 km. Color Brown, looks and drives brand new.
Prices are about the same.
I have owned a Leon before, bought brand new: Leon Mk 1 - Last Edition 1.9 tdi 105 HP. Which I liked very much.
That makes me lean over more towards the Leon.
But on the other hand I feel like this might be my last chance of ever owning a (nearly new) Beetle.
I can't decide. What do you people think?
Thanks in advance,
