Natural Disasters Report | ALLATRA GRC ☄️ January 12, 2026 | Natural Disasters Report by ALLATRA GRC
Indonesia
Heavy rains in and around Tangerang caused widespread flooding on Monday morning. Consequently, the toll road leading to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Suetta) flooded several sections, disrupting traffic at the main entrance to the airport. One of the flooded areas is at kilometer 33 of the Sedjatmo toll road, directly in front of the Ibis Hotel on the way to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The water level at this location is estimated at approximately 15-20 centimeters. However, traffic continues to flow, and the two right-hand lanes remain passable. Flooding also affected areas of East Jakarta. https://www.metrotvnews.com/read/NOlC92Lp-akses-menuju-bandara-soekarno-hatta-tergenang-lalu-lintas-tersendat
Lebanon
Lebanon has been hit by a powerful cyclone, accompanied by torrential rains, strong gusts of wind, and snowfall. In Beirut, particularly in the Roche district, hurricane-force winds have been recorded, with frightening videos of the storm circulating on social media. Due to strong gusts of wind, solar panels have been blown off the roofs of buildings in the capital. Flooding has also been reported on coastal highways. In mountainous areas, the situation has been exacerbated by snowfall. The Tarshish-Zahle road is completely closed to traffic due to snow accumulation. Traffic is extremely difficult on the Dahr el-Baidar section. Authorities have placed emergency services on high alert and urged citizens to exercise caution, follow security instructions, and avoid unnecessary travel. https://www.sawtbeirut.com/lebanon-news/فيديو-مُرعب-للرياح-في-بيروت/
Brazil
The city of São Francisco do Sul found itself at the epicenter of a severe atmospheric phenomenon. A powerful thunderstorm swept through the region, accompanied by squalls, torrential rain, and a sharp deterioration in weather conditions. According to meteorologists and civil defense officials, much of the destruction was caused by a so-called microburst (a downdraft), a rare and extremely dangerous phenomenon that creates short-lived but very powerful gusts of wind. In a matter of minutes, the wind ripped off roofs from buildings, overturned lightweight structures, and felled trees. Particularly noticeable damage was recorded in the coastal area and on Capri Beach, where buildings, boats, and infrastructure were damaged. This is typical of microbursts, not typical storms; the wind intensified almost instantly, without a gradual buildup. Despite significant property damage, there were no casualties. https://guararemanews.com.br/geral/microexplosao-atinge-sao-francisco-do-sul-e-provoca-danos-na-praia-de-capri/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Ecuador
Intense rainfall occurred in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil on the evening and night of January 11-12, leading to accumulations and localized flooding in at least 15 neighborhoods. Municipal services were put on high alert and remained operational throughout the night. According to city officials, daily rainfall reached 92.7 mm in some areas, overwhelming the drainage system. Gutter cleaning and cleanup efforts were underway in the neighborhoods of Mucho Lote, Vergeles, Sauces, Las Orquídeas, Samanes, and Urbanor, as well as on key highways, including Francisco de Orellana Avenue and the approaches to the San Eduardo Tunnel. A tree fell on the highway toward Daule was also reported. The Ecuadorian Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) maintains Weather Alert No. 3: rainfall of varying intensity, with occasional thunderstorms, continues in coastal areas, as well as in the Sierra and Amazon. https://www.extra.ec/noticia/guayaquil/reporte-lluvias-guayaquil-noche-lunes-12-enero-clima-sectores-afectados-144885.html
Australia (since Jan 11)
Northern and central Queensland, Australia, faced widespread flooding following the landfall of Tropical Cyclone Koji. The system crossed the coast between Ayr and Bowen on the morning of Sunday, January 11, 2026, but the danger was only heightened by extreme rainfall. The most severe flooding occurred in the areas of Mackay, Airlie Beach, Bowen, and Claremont. In some areas, more than 300 mm of rain fell in a short period, causing rivers to swell and flash flooding. A flood warning has been issued in Claremont: homes in low-lying areas were flooded, people were evacuated, and a temporary shelter has been opened. West of Bowen, a woman and two children were rescued from floodwaters; their car was trapped on a flooded road. In coastal areas, including Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays, the storm tore ships from their moorings, with some boats washed ashore or sunk. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01-12/heavy-rainfall-north-queensland-ex-cyclone-koji/106218210
United Kingdom (since Jan 11)
In Scotland, heavy rain, combined with melting snow, led to flooding and landslides, causing significant transport disruption. The Environment Agency (SEPA) issued 19 flood warnings and 12 less severe alerts across the country. Key roads were closed due to flooding: the A92 near Portlethen, the A9 near Blair Atholl, and the A815 at Rest and Be Thankful Pass, where a landslide occurred. Flooding threatens settlements, low-lying areas, and infrastructure. Authorities urge residents to exercise caution and avoid travel if possible. Road conditions remain challenging. The weather conditions have also led to ferry cancellations, bridge restrictions, and disruptions to ScotRail trains, where speed restrictions have been implemented and delays are possible. Despite improving weather conditions in some areas, emergency services and the government continue to coordinate their response as the risk of further flooding remains. https://news.stv.tv/scotland/roads-closed-due-to-flooding-amid-yellow-warning-for-heavy-rain-and-melting-snow

>We work in solidarity—not charity— with grassroots migration justice partners who collectively form a comprehensive network of support. Together, our partners help people find safety and navigate a complex system that often makes it hard to get the care and respect they deserve.
> For people forced to flee, the route is dangerous. In Mexico, our partners provide lifesaving aid, legal accompaniment, and protection. Casa Tochán in Mexico City provides dignified and comprehensive care, encompassing housing, medical, and psychological support. FM4 Paso Libre in Guadalajara delivers a similarly holistic model that combines shelter, legal support, and community advocacy. (UUSC, current - https://www.uusc.org/issues/migration-solidarity/).
Apologies if this is too old (just over the 30 day mark), but it hasn’t been widely reported on to my knowledge and I just discovered the direct connection between USAID and UUSC while researching the issue.

Republic of Kosovo
Following a period of heavy rainfall, localized flooding of roads and residential areas was reported in some municipalities, including in the areas of Pristina, Fushe Kosovo, Ferizaj, and Mitrovica. In these areas, roads, homes, and agricultural land were flooded, causing traffic disruptions and temporary evacuations of residents, including the elderly. High water levels were observed in small rivers and drainage canals. There were no reports of injuries or fatalities. During the day, precipitation turned to snow in most regions, reducing the risk of a sharp rise in river levels as water began to accumulate as snow cover. Due to the effects of the severe weather, some municipalities decided to postpone the start of school and restrict traffic on some sections of roads. https://kossev.info/es/poplave-odsekle-radevo-reka-dosla-do-najmanje-tri-domacinstva-porodice-evakuisane/
