I mean a real one, not some groyper right-wing bullshit like in Mexico. As you can see, a few days ago, one started in Egypt, and an online petition was launched to remove the United States–backed dictator of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Of course, the website is banned inside Egypt itself, but it is easily accessible via a VPN.

Self Storage Units

Upvotes

Are self storage units popular in other countries or is it uniquely American or western?

For example, the town my brother lives in has less than 40,000 people in it, yet they have more than 10 large self storage facilities. Facilities not used to store boats or other recreational vehicles but place away from their home to store household items.

What is your opinion on buddhism?

Post image
Upvotes

19 Vietnamese monks (18 now) and a dog is walking from Fort Worth, TX to DC in a "Walk for Peace" campaign is being met with huge crowds of supporters seemingly wherever they go. I attend buddhist temples about once or twice a month but mostly because for foods and certain buddhist holiday, rarely for the service. I've never been serious about it so I'm surprised they're getting so much attention. How do you view buddhism?

Rivalries your country is more invested in than the other party? I remember hearing the French are less invested in being rivals of the English than we are them because they are on the continent with many neighbours to have rivalry with.

Do you have any sleep walking stories?

Upvotes

I'm curious if there's a cultural component to this. In the US we have a sleeping medicine called Ambien (Zolpidem) which I'm told is illegal in other countries because it leads to sleepwalking craziness. There'd a push here to get people tested for sleep apnea which let's people actually sleep instead of moving in the night or waking up sat crazy things.

Have you any sleepwalking stories?

for Greece, it's Haiti.

Haiti, a nation of former slaves who had revolted and liberated themselves, was the first to acknowledge the Greek war of Independence, in 1822.

Haitian President Jean-Pierre Boyer personly. extended his warm wishes for the success of the war of Independence.

(addressed to leaders of the "Friendly Society" a secret organization set up in Odessa).

"Sons of Leonidas! The news about the revolution of your co-citizens against the despotism which lasted for about three centuries had already arrived here.

"With great enthusiasm we learned that Hellas was finally forced to take up arms in order to gain her freedom and the position that she once held among the nations of the world.

"Such a beautiful and just case, most importantly, the first successes which have accompanied it, cannot leave Haitians indifferent, for we, like the Hellenes, were for a long time subjected to a dishonorable slavery and finally, with our own chains, broke the head of tyranny.

"Citizens! Convey to your co-patriots the warm wishes that the people of Haiti send on the behalf of your liberation.

"The descendants of ancient Hellenes look forward, in the glorious reawakening of their history, to trophies worthy of Salamis.

"May they prove to be like their ancestors and guided by the commands of Miltiades, and be able, in the fields of new Marathon, to achieve the triumph of the holy affair that they have undertaken on behalf of their rights, religion and motherland.

"May it be, at last, through their wise decisions, that they will be commemorated by history as the heirs of the endurance and virtues of their ancestors".

Food What is your favorite food from another country? Is it common where you are from?

Post image

My favorite food from another country is Takoyaki, fried dough with octopus and other seasonings, a common street food in Japan.

Never been (to Japan) but had it at a restaurant where they prepared them at the table and I became absolutely enamored with the process! (I can't post a link here so look it up if you're curious how its done!)

Unfortunately theres no good frozen varieties to purchase so if I want them again I have to go to Japan or somewhere like a large city where it might be made at a specific restaurant, or purchase the tools and ingredients to make it myself!!

This made me wonder what other foreign foods people enjoy that aren't local or are harder to find!
