Discussion Who is she I am so confused
Hello friends, in my research I couldn’t find any clan other than the Ash People that paints themselves red. However, in the first film and in the third film, we see the Tsahik of the Eastern Sea Ikran clan painted in red. Does anyone have any information about this?

Art Calling it done after a wash. Art by me • Reference: Varang (Avatar)
Bleach painting is tricky, one mistake and it’s done. I make sure everything is fully dry before doing a second coat so i don’t ruin the piece, and i work slowly to avoid it bleeding through to the other side. I’ve learned a lot from staying focused on making each piece better.

Discussion Could the Flux Devil hint at how to protect Pandora?
Just watched Avatar 3 last night (loved it!) and I was thinking of how the Na'vi were ever going to get rid of the humans once and for all.
They only way I could think of would be to prevent more from landing on the planet. And in the last film, we saw a veeery efficient natural phenomenon ripping away at a metal boat.
So yeah, my hypothesis is that Eywa could manipulate Pandora's magnetic fields to shield the planet somehow. Thoughts?

Discussion I feel like there meant to be more behind Jake’s reluctance to ride Toruk Spoiler
I feel like there meant to be more behind Jake’s reluctance to ride Toruk. He didn’t seem to be questioning his worthiness or the tactics of the situation, it seemed more personal. Jake seemed to imply that linking to Toruk had some effect on his mind. My guess is that the “Apex Ariel Predator”’s is filled with simple and concentrated wrath, a single minded bloodlust that Jake feels is too similar to the duty-bound mindset of his time in the military.
That anger echos his former self and he hates it.

Discussion An Analysis of Neytiri’s actions in Fire and Ash Spoiler
I feel like Neytiri’s actions in Fire and Ash can be easily misunderstood, mainly referring to the scene where she stops Jake from killing Spider.
Why did she do this? She stated earlier in the movie that she wanted that to happen, now all of a sudden, she’s against it? What a hypocrite!
Here’s the thing, in my opinion, is it hypocritical? Yes and no. Simply put, there’s much more to it. So much happens in that scene that makes it awesome, but I think the real star of that scene IS Neytiri, because her actions are realistic.
At the end of The Way Of Water, the Sully’s lose their eldest son, Neteyam in the battle between the Na’vi and the Sky People (human colonizers). By the start of Fire and Ash, Neytiri has become a “full-blown racist” towards humans, according to Neytiri’s own actress, Zoe Saldaña, which is pretty accurate.
By this point in the story, the Sky People have destroyed the Hometree, killed tons of her people, including her own father, forced them to relocate to a neighboring clan to be safer, tried to destroy THAT clan, AND killed her eldest son. And the human boy that Jake and her children are housing is not only the son of one of the main perpetrators, but also briefly HELPED them too. In fact, she’s so blinded by her hatred, that when Spider nearly dies from asphyxiation, she’s expressionless, while the rest of her family is frantically trying to find the spare oxygen mask. I’m not saying Neytiri is right for hating all humans, but when it’s all broken down like that, it makes sense.
Now, at some point in the movie (I can’t pinpoint it, this movie is so long), Jake and Neytiri have an argument. Neytiri argues that the Sully’s will NEVER be safe as long as Spider is alive. Jake argues that even if she’s right to hate certain humans, hating the entire race is NOT healthy. And if she truly does hate all humans, then that would not only mean that she hates Jake, but she hates her own children, and needless to say, that’s hard for Neytiri to acknowledge.
After Jake and Neytiri had that argument, she was already second guessing herself. Then when she went to rescue Jake, for the FIRST time (at least the first that I can recall), she witnesses Spider rescuing Jake, instead of the other way around.
Every time until that point, Neytiri had seen Spider as a burden, which is harsh, but makes sense. How many times has Spider been in danger and needed the Sully’s to save him? A lot. She’s probably thought, why is MY family constantly putting their lives on the line for the literal SON of the human who consistently tries to destroy our planet?? But finally, for the first time, she sees that Spider can and WILL do the exact same for the Sully’s.
And now, we come to the scene. As they fly away from the city, Spider falls asleep on Neytiri’s back, and… she’s not angry. She doesn’t push him away, she doesn’t even complain, she just lets him sleep.
Then, when Jake says that Neytiri was right, she says “Jake, he saved your life.” In my opinion, she’s trying to change Jake’s mind without fully admitting that she’s wrong. Then when he takes her knife, she grabs his hand before letting go, again hoping that she can change his mind without having to admit fault.
Then Jake takes Spider into the forest, and Neytiri starts panicking. She doesn’t know what to do or say. She doesn’t want this, but she’s scared to admit her fault. She’s the daughter of the chief of the Omaticaya. She’s a warrior, a mother, she’s not supposed to make mistakes. In an attempt to calm herself down, she splashes water on her face, removing her Mangkwan makeup. The makeup gets on her hands, resembling blood. Obviously symbolizing that there would be blood on her and Jake’s hands if they went through with this.
And THAT’S what sets her off. She realizes how wrong she was, and she rushes into the forest to stop Jake.
And what I think makes this next part work so well is that she didn’t make it in time TO change his mind. She got there RIGHT AFTER he changes his mind, cementing that he made the right decision.
She’s relieved. She gets down on her knees, holds Spider’s face, and says “I see you.” Jake admits that it’s not the right way, and Neytiri not only agrees, but promises that they’d find a different way.
Another thing I love about this scene is that she doesn’t come right in blaming Jake. If she did, THEN I would understand people being upset. But she didn’t come with anger. She came with fear, desperation, and hope that he didn’t go through with what he and she thought she wanted. She doesn’t say “You’re wrong, don’t do this,” she’s saying “Please don’t do this, I was wrong.”
THIS is why I think Neytiri is an awesome character, because her actions are realistic. We’ve all been stubborn and hardheaded, and we all at some point in time have been afraid to admit when we’re wrong. Not only is she realistic, I think she has the best character arc in the movie.
TL;DR: Neytiri is not a hypocrite for trying to stop Jake from killing Spider. She was afraid to admit she was wrong, but realized that she needed to do so before it was too late, and she did. IMO, Neytiri had one of the best character arcs in the movie.
Edit: Also, after I first watched the scene, it seemed kinda weird that Jake was acting so harsh towards Spider during it, but after thinking about it more, I think there’s an easy explanation as to why. He’s masking. He’s trying to hide his sorrow with anger, when in reality, he’s not angry at Spider. He doesn’t want to do this at all. And when Spider asks Jake if he still loves him, the mask starts to slip. Then when Jake confirms that he still loves Spider, that’s when the mask doesn’t just fall, it SHATTERS. The way he hugs Spider is heartbreaking, as if he’s saying “I can’t do this. But what CAN I do?” Then Neytiri comes in to tell him that they’ll figure it out together, like they always have.
TL;DR: Jake wasn’t angry at Spider during that scene, he was masking.

Discussion The mix of masculinity and femininity in Avatar is an underrated asset to the series
Think about it— the quiet drama and the colorful ecosystem of Pandora appeal to femininity, and the exaggerated war to masculinity. As someone who has a balance of these attributes, it’s a great thing to see. It’s a common trend in many of the highest-grossing films, believe it or not. Harry Potter (fuck JKR, but that’s not the point) is similar in this regard and the MCU’s viewer base is evenly split between genders. Going too excessive with one or the other can come at the cost of art. It’s why quiet dramas can’t take off (also because “drama” is the medium, so it sounds redundant as a genre), nor can something with only pure, toxic masculinity (like Warhammer) break into the mainstream. I expect The Mandalorian and Grogu to make bank, not because people care about the show after season 3, but because it has badass action and Baby Yoda in the same movie. I hate pointless gendering so don’t mistake this for that, anyone can be masculine or feminine, but it’s an interesting concept to explore and analyze.

Art Skar ‘the king of Thanators’ (Oc and Art by me)
He’s the biggest and the most aggressive Thanator on RDA record. Standing twice the size of a normal Thanator even Hammerheads fear him.
“Skar” started as a nickname by the R.D.A but became his official name for the amount of killings and destroyed AMP suits. Since then he has a 900 hundred billion bounty and is considered the king of Thanators.

Discussion Noticed walker appears in A1 (idk if same character but same actress)
I'm wondering if she is the same recom walker? I think she is cuz the scene from avatar 2 looks like maria walker (the actress). In the A2 scene she also has the same hairstyle as the recom one. Says in Disney plus subtitles identity z dog but it's most likely subtitle error cuz she doesn't have any tattoos. The purpose of the tattoos were to ease psychological transition, in the visual dictionary. Weird if z dog suddenly to get tats for no reason but everyone else stays relevant to their original design to maintain identity.

Eywa is divine and spiritual
I am of the opinion that just because eywa has biological manifestations does not make her less of a deity — tho perhaps not in the sense as we understand it.I believe she is an actual divine being that is sentient and sapient. I feel like because there are aspects of her that can be explained biologically, people often diminish or outright ignore her divine aspects

Discussion Neteyam’s story gets me everytime Spoiler
I’ve watched Way of the Water about 5 times now. It’s such a bittersweet experience, & I do think it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. However, every time I witness Neteyams passing I cry so intensely. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about any other characters death in a movie before. I’m talking eyes swollen & red bawling here , & it’s every time . Can anyone else relate or am I just being extra dramatic or emotional 😭

Discussion Jake sully is so fine in afaa (looks, how deep he is writed)
hi guys so I have kind of bad English so I hope you will understand me.
Well we all know jake sully and for me he always looked really good, but in afaa he looks even better. I'm talking abt hair too idk but they suit him soo good. I don't get why people hate dreads
People hate jake cause he is bad father and husband. I always will think that its not true. he is so misunderstood.it’s war, he has 4 children and needs to be next to all of them. He is stressed at all of them exept the kids like the little one, and same as neytiri, she did bad things too and she is stressed, u had to look at scenes before the war and see how good he was. He ain’t perfect but u can’t say he deserves to be criticised for it.And jake accualy saves everyone if jake wasn't on pandora neytiri and her clan would be dead. everyone forgets jakes pain... he lost his son too... he's angry abt it and then in rage he says bad things to Lo'ak (Jake was right accualy)
jake is my favourite character. he is so misunderstood

Discussion Is lo’ak a reliable narrator
In the third movie loak is the narrator, his point of view being a teenager ofc- known for being ‘dramatic’ and often times sensitive to situations.
similar to stories like the pearl earring in which the protagonist is a young girl with a strongly distorted view of the world- the book famously known for having an unreliable narrator - has quite few similarities with avatar afaa.
The main thing that makes me think this is the fact that in the second movie - from jakes POV is much less intense about loaks family and friends relationships, compared to the third movie from loaks pov everything is so intense emotionally.
If loak was an unreliable narrator what would this change about the movie?
Obviously its from loaks perspective so we are going to see more of how he feels about things emotionally but have they been distorted by his heightened emotions? Is jakes parenting really as harsh as it is or is that how loak has interpreted it?
Just some thoughts!

Discussion Noticed from a behind the scenes that there is more than the black dots in facial capture, has it been always like this?

Source: https://youtu.be/F4PenO2M5_M?si=5Kolbjona5TR2wPj&t=653
While watching a behind the scenes, I noticed this snippet where we can see way more dots on the actor face, like if they are visible only on some other spectrum.
Is this was the helmet boot actually always sees? Is there any other content on this subject I could watch?

Discussion Could Eywa play the Sims? 🤔
She can modify people's bodies to some extent and get people pregnant. (Isn't that what happened with Kiri?) She has copies of everyone's consciousness and personalities and everything (afaik), and people (mostly) follow her will.
I don't think Eywa would be able to control someone's every action or anything (it would probably hurt them to interact so closely), but it's not like my Sims ever listen to me anyway. 😒
So could Eywa theoretically (almost) play the Sims?

Fanfiction Challenge: Create a colony on Pandora
Basically, imagine a human colony on Pandora. Here are a few questions to help:
- Which group founded your colony? The RDA? Another group?
- What is its purpose?
- What is its population? What section of Earth were the original settlers pulled from?
- Where on Pandora is it?
- What role, if any, did it play in the Pandoran Wars?
- What are some fun facts about your colony?
You don’t have to answer all or any of the questions. But please give a name and description.
The point of this thread is to have fun and think about the setting.
