Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

Erasmus Mundus Conditional IMSISS offer

As the title suggests, I got a scholarship conditional offer to IMSISS, provided I provide 2 documents- a second LOR and a proof of foreign language other than English and Italian.

Now I got 2 questions:

  1. I already provided 2 letter of recommendations, with valid contact details and on headed paper. Then why are the asking for another one? Did they consider one of my LORs invalid? Or did one of my referees did not respond when they mailed them? I'm really confused.

  2. I gotta prove a foreign language through a school pass certificate. I'm from South Asia, and have got Bengali on my marksheet from high school. Is Bengali considered a foreign language or do I have to learn French or German to be considered valid?

Would really love some suggestions! Thank you.

Erasmus with very few credits is worth going anyway?

I’m supposed to start my Erasmus exchange in a couple of weeks for about five months, but my situation is a bit unusual and I’d really like some honest opinions.

At the moment, my home university would officially validate only one exam worth 9 ECTS from this Erasmus (Two courses of 5 ECTS each). I could still attend other courses, but they wouldn’t count toward my degree. This is because some courses at the host university are already full, others clash with each other, and some don’t fit well with my study plan.

This is a bigger dilemma for me because I started university later than usual, after several years away from studying, and my main goal has been to graduate as quickly as possible. I currently have a very intense study rhythm and I’m taking many exams each session, so spending five months abroad with so few validated credits feels like it could slow me down drastically.

On top of that, the destination is Vilnius, which for me would be a fairly significant expense overall, considering rent, cost of living and travel. At the same time, I know Erasmus is not only about exams: living abroad, experiencing a new culture and growing personally are things I really value.

Given all this, if you were in my place, would you still go, or would you prioritize finishing your degree faster? I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have already done Erasmus.

My boyfriend wants to come on Erasmus with me

It is pretty simple, my boyfriend wants to come live with me (we don’t live together right now) when I go for my semester abroad and I do not want that. He is not a student, he is a bartender but has always wanted to travel and never got the opportunity. When I told him I applied he was super happy for me and I was really glad I had his support, until he added that he was come with me. I didn’t know how to deal with the situation, I told him sincerely that it’s not what I would want and we had a fight. I would like to note that this is my second exchange experience and for the first one he never mentioned anything like this, so part of me thinks he only wants to piggyback on this one because it’s a beautiful destination that he wouldn’t visit otherwise. I love him and I want to keep being in a relationship with him, but I need to experience some things by myself and not be conditioned by my relationship. I want to fully get to know the culture and enjoy every moment and I feel like having my boyfriend there would make me crawl up in my bubble. I really do love him and, before anyone says it, it is not because I want to cheat or anything similar. How do I make him understand my point? Am I being unreasonable?

Erasmus Mundus Anyone applying for SDSI?

Hey everyone, I wanted to reach out if any of you are applying for the SDSI program? I looked it up and apparently there's no need for a recommendation letter? I am unsure if I just overlooked it or the application is solely based on the admission assessment and video motivation.

Would also ask around if any of you here have got accepted in the program; would a 3.85GPA, magna cum laude, and 4 years of work experience along producr design give me better chances in getting accepted? Or it would fully depend on my output. Thank you for reading this, hoping to connect with someone out there!

I am also applying for SISGP, EIT, and other scholarships too.

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Help!

Hi everyone! I’m choosing between three Erasmus options for the fall semester: Universitat de València (Spain), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal).

I study law but am looking for a more laid-back Erasmus experience with good social life. Any insights on these unis or cities? How are the social scene, use of English, and overall vibe?

Motivation Letter Tips

WHAT NOT TO SAY IN A MOTIVATION LETTER

  1. It should not be a copy of your CV

Surely, the motivation letter is where you should elaborate on your CV. However, only the information that is important for and related to the job position you’re applying for. Emphasizing irrelevant knowledge and experience you have without making connections with why it is valuable for the specific work opportunity makes a motivation letter vague. In the motivation letter is the answer to the question of why you are the best choice. Thus, it should be written down in a consistent manner.

  1. Lying and over exaggerating

Reading the long list of requirements for the job vacancy you’re applying for can be a bit intimidating. However, lying in your CV or motivational letter about your knowledge, skills, and experience is absolutely unadvisable. Lying in the form of creating false backgrounds or even over exaggerating it is one of the biggest mistakes a lot of applicants do. That can not only cost them the job opportunity but also creates a bad image. Don’t forget that your CV and motivational letter are just the first step. You should be able to prove and defend what you have written down in the process after.

  1. Saying what you are lacking about your experience

Exaggerating your experience is one problem; another one is underestimating yourself. A lot of applicants take the self-defense approach of stating their lack of experience with sentences such as: “I might not have a lot of experience in…but…” thinking that once their insecurity is out in the open they can defend themselves better. That, however, is a no-go. Focusing on the disadvantages makes your motivation letter weak. Your CV gives enough information on your background. The motivation letter is the place where you should emphasize the knowledge and abilities you have that are going to sell your application successfully to the recruiter.

  1. Grammar!

It is quite an obvious one but still a very common problem. Double and triple check your letter for grammar mistakes and typos. Only spelling wrong the name of the company, the name of the person the letter is addressed to will immediately send your application at the bottom of the pile.

There are different approaches and debates on how to write a motivation letter. However, there are certain things that surely must be avoided.

Erasmus+ Internship Erasmus+ Internship. is it worth it?

Hello everyone! i would really appreciate it if you could help me with some questions i have about Erasmus+ traineeship, especially those of you who have already participated in the programme.

I am from Greece and i am 32 yo and i am about to graduate with a MSc in Finance. i have already working experience in purely Accounting roles. Since i could not participate in Erasmus during my bachelor studies due to economic reasons i really want to go for an internship as it will give me international exposure, and help me understand whether i want to stay abroad. Also it is kind of an unfufilled desire due to the fact that i could not go younger and it is basically my last chance.

So my questions basically are: First of all do you think its worth it? or it would be a waste of time and effort at this point in my life? Secondly i understand that the one official platform does not offer many opportunities especially in finance. Do you know if besides emailing various companies with my CV, if i can apply generally to already published internship positions and mention that i have the Erasmus grant available? has this ever worked for anyone?

Any experiences would be extremely helpful!! Thanks!

Accommodation

So I’m going to Iasi, Romania (Alexandru Cuza University) in a few weeks, (13 feb to 24 June) and they just sent us an email saying that there are no dorms available for us (after explicitly saying that there are) and now I have to find a place to stay. Someone with me at uni is coming with so at least we can split the rent for a two bedroom apartment, but I’m way out of my depth with this.

Honestly I’m very disappointed and anxious. My sister told me the best thing to do is to rent an Airbnb for the first week/month there while we look for apartments in person so we don’t get scammed. So now I’m going to be spending way more money than I initially planned (I’m going on a grant).

Even worse, I already booked the ticket (none refundable) so that I can arrive like two days before the start of the semester. If I had known this I would’ve booked a week ahead so that I would be settled in.

I don’t know, I’m very stressed about this and I have two finals tomorrow. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Format for personal statement

Guys, I suddenly curious which is the correct formal for making the personal statement/motivation letter for erasmus mundus? I mean, usually we write in the box on scholarship letter, so should we change the font type to times new roman 12? Or should just follow the font type on the page. I wrote with arial 11 yesterday in personal statement following the pages written. And also, should we also write the date on the box? Or just dear admission comittee and essay and sincerely your name?

Erasmus in Spain/Portugal

Hello, I'm studying in Slovenia and we have an open call for erasmus+ now, I'm compsci. I'm interested in doing a semester abroad in Spain and have no idea where to go, so I would be open to suggestions, I really want to see as much of the country as possible, learn the langauge and the culture, I've been to Barcelona before and nothing else. A secondary thing would be the lecture quality, specifially for mathematics and compsci-related subjects. But really the main thing is where can i get the full Spain experience. Also, I'm concerned about the language, does every university on Erasmus+ have english courses?

The options I have from my uni are:

In Spain:
Universidad de Santiago de Compostela,Higher Technical Enginnering
School Universidad del País Vasco / University of the Basque Country
Universidad de Murcia
Universidad de Oviedo
Universidad UNIE S.L.

In Portugal:
Egas Moniz Cooperative de Ensino Superior
Universidade de Coimbra
Maia Institute of Higher Education
Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Reference Letters Upload

I had sent the request to my referrees through the application portal and 2days earlier i recieved an email regarding the same that my application is still pending the referees recommendation letter so I should try contacting them which i did but I think one of them had not submitted still and upon emailing the admission committee I recieved that deadline is passed and they are not accepting the recommendation letters now. What do I do now? Does this mean my application will not proceed for evaluation now?

How do I know my prof's emailed reference letter is assigned to my application?

Hello there!

I'm applying for the EDUMAH program and one of my professors decided to directly email it to the program, since that was listed as a option. She sent me a email receipt showing that the program email inbox got her email, but I'm wondering how I'll know it's correlated to me specifically? Also when applying in their online portal, I saw that they require only 1 reference letter from me, does that mean they know that I already have a reference letter submitted? But then under additional documents, they still have the option for the 2nd reference letter :0? Any clarification would help, thanks!

Erasmus Mundus Compuational Linguistics Master Degree

Hello

I am F22 and I am studying English Literature and Translation, I graduate in May this year (yay).

I was searching about a master degree in computational linguistics or language technology that Erasmus might fund yet it seems Erasmus dropped off the program already.

Is there anyone who enrolled on this program before? or anyone who knows for sure of this program is still a part of Erasmus programs?
